Few women are as in demand for women's and fashion magazines as Michelle Obama -- though if Sarah Palin lasts, she may give Obama a run for her money. Lucky for More, then, that it started negotiating a women's magazine cover exclusive for the wife of the Democratic nominee posing alone (rather than in the ubiquitous family portraits) before Barack Obama had even clinched the nomination. ...

Another stipulation was that Obama wear her own clothes for the shoot with Matthew Rolston (evening gowns were out, because they could look presumptuously inaugural) so she is pictured wearing (who else?) Maria Pinto. Being fond of ornamentation, Obama insisted on the black bow.

I guess you are one of those people who think it is acceptable to slam Michelle Obama as a mother and as a person but a national travesty to slam Sarah Palin on those same grounds.
Rational and ethical people from either side of the liberal/co­nservative political divide know that while it is always acceptable to question the beliefs, motives and actions of a political candidate, it is never appropriate to criticize either a candidate or the spouse of a candidate on his/her dress. appearance, or role as a parent.

From very indication this is going to be a close race - and an exceptionally important race. Everyone (and I certainly include myself here) would be acting in the best interests of their political party, candidate and country to concentrate on those issues that really matte: the concomy, the war in Iraq, education, healthcare.

I don't agree, I think it is okay to question / criticize those things. There is no such thing as a "mindless" choice. Everything an individual does, including how they dress, how they choose to look and speak, and yes, how they raise their kids, speaks to the character, integrity, and beliefs of that individual. Poor stewardship of one's own family could translate poor stewardship of the country.

I have been reading it for years, along with Atlantic, and Newsweek. It's for women over 40....not much of a niche market, "More" of a huge demographic :) It is more thoughtful than a lot of women's magazines but is still utter fluff compared to Atlantic, for example. It's a woman's magazing about age, politics, reading, fashion, re-invention at midlife, health. Sometimes fluff is what's required to take the concerned furrow out of my brow these days.
