These topics are trivial in the long run. And Democrats would be hard pressed to make an issue out of this when they've been bemoaning the use of it against Barack Obama. But the McCain campaign made a small but significant tactical mistake tonight when they sent their candidate out to speak without adorning a flag pin.

The "he-doesn't-wear-a-flag-pin" charge works only in the context of a larger attack on that candidate's patriotism. And in this election, McCain will almost assuredly never be charged of not exhibiting a requisite amount of love for country (did someone say "country first"?). But those critics of Obama who have highlighted the absence of a pin on his lapel now have little to zero ammunition on this front.

Hey, I'm 10000% for Obama but this no-flag-pin argument is ridiculous. Man was respectfully in the military. No need for a pin in my book.

I'd like to believe that Obama supporters are more mature than this.

It is ridiculous, but that's not the point. The point is Mc Same started this idiotic crap and now he has to play by his own rules. So, Mc Same rule #1: No lapel pin=unpatriotic islamo-facist. So where is his frackin lapel pin?

That speech was horrible. Boring. His smile looks like it's being pulled by 2 guys in the back on opposite sides of the stage that have attached hooks to strings. Poor delivery and a serious lack of substance.

Horrible isn't the word for it. What policies does he have, none. This was his opportunity and he blew. I took the time and spoke just about himself and if you haven't heard it before, please tell me what rock you were under so I can join you there.

So over his POW story that I could puke. Granted I would not want to go through that but ENOUGH.

John McCain was also a POW. Did you know that? I didn't! I give John McCain a great deal of respect, along with the rest of the GOP that they didn't cheapen McCain's service by using it as a political tool. Good for them!

BWAHAHAHAHA!

They sure do a good job of keeping Bridget out of the limelight. I saw her sitting next to McCain's mother Tuesday night, but not since. I admit, I didn't have the stomach to watch it tonight (Thurs).

She (unknowingly of course and unaccountably except for the phenomenon of virulent racism) did just that very thing back in the 2000 primary--McCain swiftboated by Rove working for W.

She was featured all three nights of the convention. She was introduced and her story was told.

So now you'll just say he was trotting her out to exploit her.

I couldn't watch this crap tonight, McCain is one of the worst public speakers ever. I read it though - total rubbish. Is McCain the 'Change' candidate or the 'Experience' candidate??? This entire convention lacked a unifying message or theme. Which makes sense since he doesn't seem to have any policies (that are any different then Bush's) and he doesn't seem to be able to tell Americans why we should trust republicans for another 4 years after 8 of the worst years in a generation. The only policies he talked about were drilling, an school choice. What world is he living in?? Those are NOT the issues voters care most about. If anything, this convention scared most of us, since it seems like the GOP is more extremist and right wing then even the Bush/Cheney regime. The green screen definitely didn't help.

Does McCain actually need to tell Americans they can trust him? Close to 50% of the electorate is lemming, through and through. They continue to willingly, or even avidly, throw themselves off the cliff.

Contrast this to the DNC. Well organized, speeches were on target and smoothly delivered, everything top flight. Now is there really any doubt who can get things done and manage most effectively? I mean if you can't pull off a 4 day convention, what are you chances of running a country?

I think it's a HUGE tactical error for McCain not to wear a flag pin after all the hay they've attempted to make out of Obama doing the same.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Palin's pin last night was the red, white, and blue flag that military families hang out in front of their houses with a number of blue stars indicating that they've got a family member in combat. It looked like one of those with one blue star...signifying her son being sent to Iraq.

Note, I am in NO WAY defending her. Just trying to clarify.

Yes, both she and Cindy McCain wear a Blue Star flag pin, which signifies an offspring serving in the war.

McCain never wears a flag lapel pin, and he has never made a an issue of Obama wearing one.

Uhm... Riiiiiiiight. McCain never made an issue out of it. He just sits back and lets everyone else in his campaign do it, while stating that he's going to run an honorable campaign on the issues.

Riiiiight. So, either McCain is an ineffectual leader who lacks the ability to get his people in line, or he's a liar. Which is it?

And frankly, how sad is it with all the problems left to us by the GOP, all the things that need to be corrected and rebuilt... that we're sitting her talking about a f**king lapel pin? Nice.

Because the only flag that matters to the Palins is the Alaskan flag. It's Alaska First Alaska Always. They have shown their true colors.

Hello, no. Not as long as I got a crack at extracting these minerals while quick and dirty-dumpin' the tailings into the streams and clearcutting the forests and mowing down the caribou and netting all the salmon and shootin' all the varmints like bears, wolves, and big birds.
