UPDATE: Barack Obama's campaign met its expected $10 million dollar mark:

Barack Obama's presidential campaign said it raised $10 million Thursday following the Republican National Convention speech by rival John McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said Palin's address, heavily laced with digs at Obama, prompted an outpouring of donations from more than 130,000 donors.

The political impact of Sarah Palin continues to be hazy -- she's clearly revved up the Republican base, and helped McCain's campaign bring in more than $8 million since she was announced as his running mate.

But the Palin pick seems to be having a virtually identical effect on the Democratic base. Activists have frenetically picked apart Palin's record over the last week, and an Obama aide told the Huffington Post that the campaign has raised $8 million since her speech last night "from over 130,000 donors - on pace to hit $10 million by the time John McCain hits the stage tonight."

"Sarah Palin's attacks have rallied our supporters in ways we never expected," the aide said. "And we fully expect John McCain's attacks tonight to help us make our grassroots organization even stronger."

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee says it has raised $1 million since Palin's speech.

I did not watch the speech and have no intentions of ever doing so....I did, however, read many posts from many of Obama's supporters and donated $25.00 last night. That was my first, but not my last donation. I will wait for John McCain to speak, read the reactions - because I will not watch that man lie through his teeth-and then donate AGAIN.

I was so angry watching Palin that I called our local Obama office and my husband and I volunteered on the spot... I have never been so angry at a political speech (and this is after 8 years of BUSH/CHENEY mind you...) and I have never been so offended as a woman.... God help us all of they get elected for a third Bush term....

I was a proud donor to Obama's campaign today; you bet it was in direct response to Palin's speech last night.

Best news I've heard today....but it doesn't surprise me. Palin's speech was disturbing. There is no way I want this wacko to be a heartbeat from the presidency. I'm getting my checkbook out right now.

100% on point.

No way should this wacko be in the White House.

Palin's speech last night prompted me to head to Obama's site to donate to his campaign as well. I was totally disgusted with the blatant lies and lack of substance. As a Canadian, I will not be able to support the democratic ticket with a vote, but I thought perhaps some cash would help the cause. Unfortunately I found that I had to be a US Citizen in order to donate. The results of this election will impact on Canadians dramatically, just as the failed policies of the current administration have effected us. I wish there was a way I could help!

I am a Canadian also, and to get around this barrier if you have friends, family, or love ones that lives there, you can ask them to buy stuff on his web site.
