UPDATE: Barack Obama's campaign met its expected $10 million dollar mark:

Barack Obama's presidential campaign said it raised $10 million Thursday following the Republican National Convention speech by rival John McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said Palin's address, heavily laced with digs at Obama, prompted an outpouring of donations from more than 130,000 donors.

The political impact of Sarah Palin continues to be hazy -- she's clearly revved up the Republican base, and helped McCain's campaign bring in more than $8 million since she was announced as his running mate.

But the Palin pick seems to be having a virtually identical effect on the Democratic base. Activists have frenetically picked apart Palin's record over the last week, and an Obama aide told the Huffington Post that the campaign has raised $8 million since her speech last night "from over 130,000 donors - on pace to hit $10 million by the time John McCain hits the stage tonight."

"Sarah Palin's attacks have rallied our supporters in ways we never expected," the aide said. "And we fully expect John McCain's attacks tonight to help us make our grassroots organization even stronger."

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee says it has raised $1 million since Palin's speech.

Hey, since our "FRIENDS" from farnce are donating to OBAMA, this should encourage us all to donate to him, since the French have been long standing and consistant supporters of Americans. Wait... isn't France heavily occupied by Muslims who hate the US.... HMMMMMMMM

America is voting right now - - - - VOTING WITH THEIR MONEY.
I sure hope this trend continues through November.

Money is very needed, but not enough. Volunteer folks, knock on doors, encourage your friends, family, neighbors to register to vote, to attend Barack's campaign rallies and listen to his policies. There are only 60 days left until Nov. 4 and these 60 days are very detrimental to our lives and country. Please sign up to volunteer.

I contributed for the first time after Palin's condescending, mean, and sarcastic speech. I loved it when she read off facts about other countries like she had ANY clue what she was talking about.... Also loved hearing an arena full of Repubs laugh at people that serve their community. Made me so angry and sad that I went and gave a donation.

What makes Obama qualified to be the President? Has Obama ever held an executive position?

Can you name anything of significance that he has accomplished?

see his senate record.

executive experience would be a good thing to tout - except she was a very bad executive.

see her record. see her handcrafted pipeline deal, which exists only on paper and is about to fall apart and she signed off on paying TREBLE damages to canada if it does. Stupid executive.

Both sides of McCain have not held executive office either.

George W. Bush held an executive position (Governor) and look where that got us.

At both state and federal levels, Sen. Obama got the most sweeping ethics reform legislation in decades passed: http://obama.senate.gov/issues/ethics_and_lobbying_reform/ http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ethics/

He also pushed through legislation which created http://www.usaspending.gov/ where you can track every dollar the Federal Government spends: http://obama.senate.gov/press/060908-senate_passes_c/

And he has worked to keep nukes out of the hands of terrorists: http://obama.senate.gov/press/070628-obama_lugar_sec/

You have got to be kidding me. I thought she was there to excite the base. So, they aren't that excited about her. I knew the blog would be a better place to get my news. A measly million. They need to get and vote for Obama/Biden '08. Their wallets aren't looking so good.

I found Sarah Palin's speech to be demeaning. If she was looking for support, she's not getting it here. Yes, I was 1 of the 130,000 donors, saying these character assassinations are not going to work. Sarah Palin has started off on the wrong foot. Obama and Biden did not attack her, they treated her very respectfully when she was announced as McCain's VP.
Paalin doesn't support women or a woman's right to choose. Who does she think she is, whatever decision a woman makes relative to choice is between her and her god. She does not share Hillary's ideaologies and cannot even compare herself to Hillary or Geraldine Ferraro. Wow, did Palin forget about Shirley Chisolm or does she even know about her or even care. Sarah Palin needs to be careful about the battles she picks because she may be in for a rude awakening! Sarah, be careful what you ask for!!!

10M$$!
I was so surprised when I hear the CNN presentator (Taiwan edition) saying S. Palin was a good fund-raizer, not only for the Reps, but also the Dems: After her speech Reps: 1M$; Dems 10M$.

Waou! Impressive! ... 5$ +5$+ +5$ ....= 10M$!

I think they will be afraid to be that smeary and negative!

This is fun to watch! My hope increases!

Bravo les Americains!

I drive through the mountains on the way to work. The fires of the past have scorched the hills, and killed the old trees in the arroyos. Their skeletons still stand however. The bleached white, dead, twisted trees remain above the lush new growth. I think, maybe it's man's place to cut down the old dead wood, and let the young green growth have the sky to itself, but who has the time? How long did it take in the past, for them to fall and eventually recycle into the soil?

As of this writing then, Obama and the Dems are outraising the Repubs by a 7 to 1 margin! That's GREAT. I agree that it would be wonderful to avoid talking about $$ and not asking for it every time one turns around, BUT $$ buys things that are necessary for a successful campaign. Things like RADIO time, TV TIME, paper, stamps, telephone time, paper clips, LUNCH or DINNER (for hungry volunteers and workers). The WONDERFUL part about this is that McCain is being FORCED to go to lobbyists and outside interests for $$ because the public campaign funds are limited and Obama and the Dems have the bigger bank account THIS TIME. Radio and TV time are really important in the last sixty days. Remember, it was October when the Swift Boat ads came out in 2004. And that's what sank John Kerry. NOW-let's all join hands and sing "Kumbaya!" (JUST A JOKE!) It really isn't going to get easier in the day to day stuff, but I hear that the 'reinforcements' are arriving on Monday (at least the Hillary Clinton part anyway). How much $$$ DID the Dems raise after McCain's speech?

A lot of his money is going towards opening a lot of offices around the country and paying staffers to put out a massive ground game, which is how you win.
