UPDATE: Barack Obama's campaign met its expected $10 million dollar mark:

Barack Obama's presidential campaign said it raised $10 million Thursday following the Republican National Convention speech by rival John McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said Palin's address, heavily laced with digs at Obama, prompted an outpouring of donations from more than 130,000 donors.

The political impact of Sarah Palin continues to be hazy -- she's clearly revved up the Republican base, and helped McCain's campaign bring in more than $8 million since she was announced as his running mate.

But the Palin pick seems to be having a virtually identical effect on the Democratic base. Activists have frenetically picked apart Palin's record over the last week, and an Obama aide told the Huffington Post that the campaign has raised $8 million since her speech last night "from over 130,000 donors - on pace to hit $10 million by the time John McCain hits the stage tonight."

"Sarah Palin's attacks have rallied our supporters in ways we never expected," the aide said. "And we fully expect John McCain's attacks tonight to help us make our grassroots organization even stronger."

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee says it has raised $1 million since Palin's speech.

He got $125 more from me tonight, plus I brought in new donors.

Thanks GOP for your horrendous convention!

Everyone!!! Please give what you can! Every dollar counts to fight & defeat John Bush & Palin. We MUST help Obama & Biden win this election. If you can give only $5.00, think of it as just over 1 gallon of gas. We can't afford JM & Palin.

And if they can't give money... giving your time works just as well. Telling friends, family and neighbors why you support Obama is better than any Ad on TV because people listen to people they know more than they listen to a TV ad.

I'm attending a voter registration training session tomorrow morning so I can help register voters. Obama is the first candidate I've ever contributed to, and the only one for whom I've been a delegate.
BLinCincinnati is right...Give what you can...time, money, or even babysitting this November for people who want to go vote, but might get stuck in long lines with restless kids! ANYTHING!

It appears McCain's VP pick has energized the base. In terms of raising money however, it was the Democratic base.

Well that makes tons of us. I just donated as well. Unemployed, don't care if I have to put it on my credit card. This is an outrage.

You can donate your time. It's just as valuable. Tell family, friends, neighbors. Knock on doors. Make phone calls.

Spread the word.

my advice still is to capitalize on the community organizer bashing and show how out of touch these wealthy republicans are. They need to make her words come back and bite her

Let's take it a step further... let's rally around community organizers, and hilight them as a symbol of change in America. The snide comments of Wednsday may have given us a gift in the opportunity to appreciate the kind of people who make our country better.

America's community organizers are male and female, black, white, hispanic, and asian, old and young, republican, and democrat, and represent a web of influence and passion.

Let's turn someone else's negative into a positive.

I will continue to give until I can give no more!! I am confident our voices will be heard and heard loud and clear!!! Everyone should do as much as they feel they can (and maybe then give just a little more!!) We can not let this election slip through our hands and we as a country cannot tolerate what McCain/Palin/Rove are promising us!!!!

I'm currently unemployed but I donated tonight to Obama's campaign. Like most of you it's my first time to really donate to a presidential campaign. Times are tough right now but I believe in Obama/Biden.

I tried to watch McCain's speech but could not get pass his smirk/smile after each sentence, I turned off the TV and read a book instead.

In this budget, Does anyone else see CONGRESSIONAL EARMARKS???? She and John McCain are going to do what with the earmarks? THE PARTY "TICKET" hides lies.

I agree that we need people going door to door in swing states such as CO, OH, PA etc....
I live in Colorado, work and take care of my mother who has dementia but I am registering
new voters and helping where I can. This election is so important, we need Barack Obama
and Joe Biden in the White House, possibly Hillary Clinton, Chuck Hagel in a Cabinet positions.
Maybe Obama should start naming people he would appoint.

I want to thank Pain and McConfused. They are the best fund raisers for O. so far. Can they give another speech? That would be another 10 mill for O.
