UPDATE: Barack Obama's campaign met its expected $10 million dollar mark:

Barack Obama's presidential campaign said it raised $10 million Thursday following the Republican National Convention speech by rival John McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said Palin's address, heavily laced with digs at Obama, prompted an outpouring of donations from more than 130,000 donors.

The political impact of Sarah Palin continues to be hazy -- she's clearly revved up the Republican base, and helped McCain's campaign bring in more than $8 million since she was announced as his running mate.

But the Palin pick seems to be having a virtually identical effect on the Democratic base. Activists have frenetically picked apart Palin's record over the last week, and an Obama aide told the Huffington Post that the campaign has raised $8 million since her speech last night "from over 130,000 donors - on pace to hit $10 million by the time John McCain hits the stage tonight."

"Sarah Palin's attacks have rallied our supporters in ways we never expected," the aide said. "And we fully expect John McCain's attacks tonight to help us make our grassroots organization even stronger."

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee says it has raised $1 million since Palin's speech.

Sorry, but the corporate media has cancelled the news.
They just tell us want they allow us to know to keep us quiet.

Absolutely Right!! I really try not to be all conspiracy theorist, but seriously they don't tell us everything. They keep people stupid to further their own agenda.

We have 61 days left in this campaign. If you want to stop this insanity, we need boots on the ground. Volunteer for 2 or 3 hours at your local headquarters and make phone calls, walk neighborhoods, register voters, whatever. We also need people on election day to be poll watchers, drive people to the polls, help people find out where to vote, etc. It's up to us to stand up and take our country back.
Yes, we can.

Thanks, to all of you. If you can't work yourselves, even taking snacks to the headquarters is a great thing to do. Some of these kids come from other states to help organize and goodies are a moral boost as well as filling stomachs.

There are more of us. I live in Arizona; we're doing what we can but live in a retirement community. We have an Obama sign in our backyard at the fence at the golfcourse, and another sign in our front yard.

After watching this "convention" of chest-thumping thugs, it seems all the more likely that their "chosen" candidates were actually picked by the "big money" behind the Republican Party. Palin as vice-president, a mean-spirited, ignorant homophobe from the backwoods of Alaska. The joke's on us.

This should not be a surprise. Whenever it looks like Obama is being attacked, the donations go up. It happened after ABC debate or anytime his opponent or the media attacks him. This happened during the primary. Trolls are probably a big fund raiser for him. Someone gets ticked off on what a troll wrote in a blog and they donate in honor of the troll.

I'm a retired senior (former teacher) on a fixed income.
I cannot tell you how ILL I get every time I even HEAR Palin's name, much less that grating, condescending, nasty, cliche-ridden, mean-spirited voice of hers. Didn't think anyone EVER could irritate me as much as "W" does.
Then along came Palin.
And the "same old/same old" that came out of McSame's mouth tonight? Gag, me!!!
Every time I hear that POW story, I do throw up in my mouth a little.
Anyway, I am a Hillary supporter - now proudly behind Obama and Biden!!!
And even though I'm a senior on a small fixed income with no health insurance except Medicare A, I made a donation tonight!!!
Felt so good doing it!
Hope to give more in the future!!!

Unfortunately, donations made to the Obama campaign will be small in comparison to the increase in taxes and government spending he proposes.

You're confused. It's the Republicans who spent the nest egg and sold our country to China.

Unless you're very rich, Obama intends to lower your taxes.

Pay attention!

and sold our country to China?

Bush has been relatively inactive compared to other presidents. Nixon was the primary initiator of open relations with China in the 1970's.

Then Clinton signed the China Trade Bill (PNTR with China Act) Oct. 2000
http://archives.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOLITICS/stories/10/10/clinton.pntr/

There's lots of reportage about this topic. See the Congressional Record as well. Clinton was relieved and, later, did a victory tour through the Pacific Rim. There's an interesting Wikipedia resource if you check the sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinton_Administration

Both Republicans and Democrats are responsible for the decision to open trade with China, but there is no doubt that Clinton regarded this as a highlight of his administration.

Luvinthesouth - unless you're a very wealthy person, you won't have to worry much about the tax increases. However, if you are a multi-millionaire, shame on you for not wanting to contribute your fair share and I'll be damned if I'll feel sorry for you and your increased "burden".

guess you didn't like those Clinton years when taxes for the MAJORITY of this country were LOW!!!

So, unless you are someone who can afford to wear $300,000 outfits to speak on stage.... I wouldn't be too worried about having higher taxes!

Well, it looks like Republican party tried to imitate what the Democrats did at the end of their convention. Fireworks, stage setup with the disappearing podium. Stealing the change theme. So I believe that the Republicans like what the Democrats are doing. They like stealing the Democrats ideas. But, there is nothing like that real thing, baby.

From NBC's Mark Murray
Hillary Clinton just released this statement: "The two party conventions showcased vastly different directions for our country. Sen. Obama and Sen. Biden offered the new ideas and positive change America needs and deserves after eight years of failed Republican leadership. Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin do not."

"After listening to all the speeches this week, I heard nothing that suggests the Republicans are ready to fix the economy for middle-class families, provide quality affordable health care for all Americans, guarantee equal pay for equal work for women, restore our nation's leadership in a complex world or tackle the myriad of challenges our country faces. So, to slightly amend my comments from Denver: NO WAY, NO HOW, NO McCAIN-PALIN."
