POKANE, Wash. - Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin attended five colleges in six years before graduating from the University of Idaho in 1987.

Federal privacy laws prohibit the schools from disclosing her grades, and none of the schools contacted by The Associated Press could say why she transferred. There was no indication any of them were contacted as part of the background investigation of Palin by presidential candidate John McCain's campaign.

"Our office was not contacted by anyone," said Tania Thompson, spokeswoman for the University of Idaho in Moscow.

Palin, the governor of Alaska, was born in Idaho. Her family moved when she was only a few months old to Alaska, where she was raised.

She began college at Hawaii Pacific University, a private, nonsectarian school in Honolulu. She attended only as a freshman during the fall of 1982, school spokeswoman Crystale Lopez said.

Then known as Sarah Louise Heath, she was in the business administration program as a full-time student, Lopez said.

"We're trying to track down someone who knew her," Lopez added.

From Hawaii Pacific, Palin transferred to North Idaho College, a two-year school in Coeur d'Alene, about 30 miles east of Spokane. She attended the college as a general studies major for two semesters, in spring 1983 and fall 1983, spokeswoman Stacy Hudson said.

"We were not able to track down club affiliations or anything," Hudson said.

The school identified one of her professors but he did not remember her, Hudson said.

Prior to her selection by McCain, the North Idaho College Alumni Association notified Palin in June she would be the recipient of its 2008-2009 Distinguished Alumni of the Year Award.

From North Idaho College, Palin transferred 70 miles south to the University of Idaho, the state's flagship institution. She majored in journalism with an emphasis in broadcast news. She attended Idaho, whose mascot is the Vandals, from fall 1984 to spring 1985.

She then returned to Alaska to attend Matanuska-Susitna College in Palmer in fall 1985.

Then she returned to Idaho, for spring 1986, fall 1986 and spring 1987, when she graduated. Despite her journalism degree, she does not appear to have worked for the college newspaper or campus television station, school officials said. She worked briefly as a sportscaster for KTUU in Anchorage after she graduated college.

The McCain campaign did not have an immediate comment on Palin's higher education record.

In a recent interview with the school's alumni magazine, before her selection to run on the GOP ticket, she explained that her curiosity and love of writing made journalism a natural choice.

"I was always asking everyone the questions, and I still am today," Palin told the magazine.

The University of Idaho is taking advantage of Palin's nomination. A prominent photograph of her is featured on the school's Web site.

There needs to be a minimum education/grade point level for anyone put before us as our President or Vice President.

We cannot afford four more years of dumb. Now we have dumb and dumber running for the highest offices in our land.

Yea, I guess it was pretty dumb to be willing to serve this country to begin with and put themselves and their families through this kind of horror being dished out daily, most of which is untrue or twisted truth, something all of you seem to cry out against, but are more than willing to be active participants in doing. I'll tell you what's "dumb". What is dumb is blaming Republicans for the economic mess we're in when it only began to truly dive to the bottom since a year ago when Pelosi and her crowd took over Congress. Congress is the culprit, but the President is the scapegoat. Oh yes, I forgot. The Pelosi's of this world are smarter than us -- that's why they tell us "no" when 90%of the people of this country want to drill for more oil. Since when did they put themselves so far above the people who elected them that they can say "no" when we say "yes"? I say let's get them ALL out and start over and this time, elect some real human beings to represent the rest of us real human beings. It doesn't take a huge amount of brains to REPRESENT your voting majority -- rather than what is being done now -- saying, "I know better than you, so I'll do what I want to do".

Are you from this planet ?

U.S. seizes Fannie and Freddie
Record 1.2 million homes hit by foreclosure
Unemployment Rise Worst in 20 Years

It is a new indicator of a long-brewing problem that is toxic when combined with falling incomes, the mortgage crisis and out-of-control everyday costs.

Amazing how you've turned the failings of this administrations 7 years in power around to blame the Democrats.

STILL have not heard this on the MSM tv shows! Where are they on this?? This is SO key, especially since the comparison with Obama is so hilarious.

Lack of education, lack of curiosity, lack of the energy and drive to actually get "their change too" done -- but all the secrecy and cutthroat politics of the current administration: this is what the Republicans are offering us with McCain and the selection of Palin.

Forget what they say: we vote in Republicans, we will swiftly be in another war - or two if we keep sending our navy within spitting range of the Russian fleet in Georgia while delivering "humanitarian aid." Mexican War, Spanish American War, Civil War, Vietnam, almost Iran if the fakery of the "speedboat attack" hadn't been so obvious - how many of our wars have started with a scurmish that caused a domino effect?? Keep our navies out of firing range! And keep Palin-McCain out of the White House.

So here's one area Palin has aced in terms of experience: COLLEGE! She has had the most undergrad experience in attending college. Potential leader of the free world has been to five colleges...

.She and Mr. sixth-from-the-bottom-of-the-class McCain represent a "dumbed down" leadership -- the celebration of mediocrity. Says a lot about those who hail them as capable of the country's top posts!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:11 PM on 09/07/2008

Please - let's not dignify it by calling it a celebration of "mediocrity!" It's a festival of "losers!"

Oh and BTW, McCain graduated fifth from the bottom of his class and quipped that he wished he'd done worse, because then he'd have received the special award given to those who graduated rock bottom of the class - he is a high achiever indeed!

People PLEASE register to vote before October 3rd. If possible request an absentee ballot and vote EARLY. I am not taking any chances with the republicans this year; they like to disenfranchise voters, especially minorities.

So, if you don't have to deal with them on November 4th - do NOT!

In Maryland you can request an absentee ballot. The deadline is October 28. PLEASE, vote and vote early!

Deep inside this woman has a history of a white supremacist.

It has to be researched.

Some said it was "elitist" to be critical of Bush and Palin for not knowing how to pronounce nuclear. What's wrong with wanting the person with their finger on the trigger of all those nuclear weapons to actually know what the heck they're talking about? With all these "C" students like Bush and McCain bragging about what mental midgets they are, I for one am looking forward to have two men with brains in the White House for a change, men who not only were great students, but were law professors as well.

The leader, Obama, got into his elite university not because of his brains -- because of his color. He was an Affirmative Action hero. Same for Michelle. They were neither one mental giants. Not saying this was not needed for a long time, just saying if you're going to talk facts about one side, talk facts about the other.

Affirmative Action might push you over the top if there are two equally qualified applicants and you happen to be a minority. What it does NOT do is put you near the top of your class, make you President of the Harvard Law Review, or get you job offers (and jobs, in Michelle and Hillary's cases) from high powered law firms. If you got a little added benefit due to minority status, you still have to perform. Never doubt for one moment that Barack's brains did not come into play in the selection process. McCain and Bush were legacy kids, accepted not because of their intellectual ability but only because of the relationship between their families and the schools.

The reason Affirmative Action was needed is because powerful families like the McCains (whose family tree includes a great-great-grandfather who ran a plantation, owned slaves, and died fighting for the confederacy in the Civil War) prevented minorities from being accepted into schools where they could be educated to compete for positions of power and success in this country. Affirmative Action was a huge success the Democrats' that helped many minorities, including women, out of poverty.

Despite Affirmative Action, minorities still need to work twice as hard and be twice as good to get half of what is considered the birthright of white men in America.

Did Sarah Plain have an abortion during her college years? Since she refuses to come before the press and answer direct questions--we have no choice but to guess?

5 Schools in 6 years-WHY? Sure it can take lots of students more than a traditional 4 to earn a degree but was she working--What happened during that time.

We already know she did not practice ABSTINENCE she she "eloped" and had her first child a scant 8 months later.

Americans deserve to know the TRUTH about any candidate for high office!

But, that's the typical repukelican distort, distract, LIE, LIE, LIE....

So? They've been "digging up" stuff on Barack for eighteen months now. And he's not against abortion. So dig on. We are not going to fall for the Republican strategy of subterfuge and distraction. They have destroyed this country and ruined its reputation in the eyes of the world. And we are going to wrest our country out of their stranglehold.

Many of the most rabid anti-abortion activists take that position because of their guilt over their own abortions. Michelle and Barack have both said that they would prefer that people have access to contraception so that abortions would not be needed. I prefer, whether Palin had abortions or became pregnant out of wedlock or whatever her story is, that my daughters and granddaughters have the right to make this decision for themselves. Again, it comes down to class and income. Middle and working class women will be forced to have unwanted babies or illegal abortions. Women with higher incomes (and the daughters of these women) can go to Canada, Japan, Europe, India or other countries where abortion is safe, legal, and available (as they have done since I was in high school when abortion was still illegal). Women without the resources to do this will be stuck in the cycle of poverty that is typically the result of unwanted pregnancy.

OK. I will be elite and say it. 894th out of 899 and 5 schools in 6 years as the education of our Pres and VP. Spouses with a Masters in Special Ed from USC and a year in community college for "The first Dude". Compared to 3 Law Degrees and a PhD in Education. If this is elite, so be it.

I do want persons to have more than just real world experience and knowledge before the run the country.

We already saw what running the country with your gut looks like.

Why did her (now pregnant?) daughter have to dissapear for 7 months last year? What is that suspicious "baby bump" the daughter shows just prior to dropping out of site. (and incidently - almost all people who get infected with mono are over it in 3 months - not 7). That poor baby with downes syndrome is SARAH'S grandchild. Keep digging. This "holier than you" fraud of a woman will be exposed.
