Rove: Palin's Toughest Days Yet To Come

The reviews are in and most people think that Sarah Palin nailed her speech Wednesday night before the Republican National Convention.

Political gurl Karl Rove agrees with those accolades, but also thinks that Palin faces a difficult road ahead.

"She had a test last Friday and she nailed it," Rove told a crowd gathered for a breakfast panel discussion in St. Paul, Minneapolis. "She had a test last night and she nailed it. But being the newest player on the stage, she will also be the most tested and the most judged on the stage. Everyone is going to ask: 'When is she going to appear on a Sunday talk show program?' 'When is she doing to do an interview?' 'When is she going to give an unscripted speech?' 'When will she do a townhall meeting?' 'When will she answer questions on foreign policy?' 'How will she perform in a debate?'"

So now they're trying to make the election all about Sarah Palin and this feisty small town girl's fight to become Vice President. How dramatic. What a soap opera. I can just imagine what KarlRove would have done to Hillary Clinton during her fight to be come president if she had been the nominee.

The hypocrisy is stunning. But even more so, the idea that the American public—losing their homes, seeing their paychecks shrink, struggling to put kids through college, watching banks fail, seeing sons and daughters sent oversees, watching people drown in New Orleans, losing their jobs—would rather get caught up in some kind of celebrity reality show than base their decisions on their own lives.

It won't work. Not this time.

i agree with Rove. Gov. Palin has yet to appear in an unscripted forum or interview (besides a puff piece in People Magazine). Let her go on MTP with Brokaw, and we'll see how she does. If she ducks the Sunday shows (except FOX), or doesn't do well in other interviews, we'll know she's not for real

But, I disagree that she passed the test last night, and in fact may have damaged herself down the line. She did well in that arena, but we don't know how she did in the rest of the country, but she also took away her biggest single advantage she had going into the debate with Joe Biden. Democrats had been worried about Biden appearing like he was beating up on a woman. It turns out that this woman sees herself as a fighter, and now she's thrown the first punches. I would say that Biden now has license to let loose and crush her.
