I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Sebelius

In a Thursday morning conference call for reporters organized by the Democratic National Committee, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius pushed back against the idea that Republicans have cornered the market on small-town American values.

"I live in the American heartland, and have been a governor [here] for six years," she said. "I don't know any mayor in any small town in Kansas -- and we have a lot of mayors of small towns -- who hires a lobbyist and goes after earmarks the way Sarah Palin did." On Tuesday, the Washington Post reported that, as mayor of Wasilla, Palin secured more than $27 million in federal earmarks for a town with only 6,700 residents.

In her speech, Palin made a not-so-subtle pitch to snatch the sympathies of small-town voters -- touting her own experience as a mayor, and contrasting her self-professed values with those of Barack Obama. "I might add that in small towns, we don't quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren't listening," Palin said, referring to remarks Obama made at a San Francisco fundraiser earlier this year.

Sebelius would have none of it. "What I hear from these folks in the heartland, is that people want to know how they're going to afford health care ... whether they're going to keep their jobs [and manage] the cost of gas and groceries," Sebelius said. "Again last night, what we heard were partisan attacks and no real solutions. ... I work with a Republican legislature every day. And I know what people expect us to do ... is to roll up your sleeves and get the job done."

"There's a disconnect between the way she positions herself as a small-town mayor ... and an inside Washington strategy," Sebelius added. "The kind of persona she is putting forward is very enticing, but I don't think it matches with her positions."

Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz hammered a similar theme, saying that Palin "had a real problem with the truth last night" and adding that "even her hometown newspaper said she stretched the truth." (a reference to Thursday's Anchorage Daily News headline: "Some Of Palin's Remarks Stretch The Truth.")

Schultz also suggested that Palin had simply done a good job of robotically delivering an address she had little hand in crafting herself. "Whenever I have had to give significant speeches, I've spent a lot of time with the people assisting me in drafting remarks, adding my own voice," Schultz said. "Last night, I only heard Sarah Palin's voice [through] negative partisan attacks, with no substance or vision of where she thinks the country should go."

On Palin's effort to position herself and McCain as reformers, Schultz asked, "Where is the beef? Where is the evidence? Sarah Palin is not a reformer, she is under investigation in her home state for the abuse of power in trying to get a state trooper fired... If her best example of being a reformer was trying to sell a plane on E-Bay, that is not my definition of reform."

Shultz also questioned Palin's readiness to lead. "To say that her experience as a mayor of a town of 7,000 people ... makes her qualified to have her hands on the pillar of American foreign policy, if God forbid anything happens to John McCain, to suggest that is frightening," she said. "What kind of experience does Sarah Palin have to sit across the table from negotiators of the dangerous countries of this world?"

Obama adviser Robert Gibbs stepped in to rebut a few points of fact from Palin's speech. Specifically, he cited her reference to family members who own a small service station, saying they were precisely the kind of Americans who would receive "three times the tax relief" under Obama's tax plan. Gibbs also noted that Palin "picked up the worn-out playbook of Joe Lieberman," by claiming that Obama cannot point to any substantive legislative accomplishments. Even some of John McCain's surrogates know, Gibbs said, that the ethics and lobbying reforms in 2007, "the toughest since the scandal of Watergate," were passed due to Obama's work across party lines.

John McCain's Vice President selection is "Pal(e)in" comparison to more qualified and experienced female politicians.

Dysfunctional Family? PART II

The Palins have either one or two boys who are in the Army. At young ages. Why didn't these boys go to college? Why do they actively put themselves in harm's way? One rumor is that Track Palin was forced to choose the Army instead of jail -- just a rumor and no facts to back it up. But if he got 'into trouble' this is acting out in a dysfunctional family; if he joined the Army on his own this is the same; except when 'underprivileged' kids join up, it is more often out of despair and seeing no other choices, no jobs, no college chances at all. When someone joins the Army during a time when recruits have a good chance of being sent to a 'war' (or civil war) zone it may be they are partly suicidal (or so angry they want an excuse to kill). They may want to either show their parents they have survived and get called a hero or be hurt or killed and 'show them!' in the way suicides do.

In any case, these two seem not to be able to talk to their parents. Sarah Palin, being a right/wrong type of person, is unlikely to listen to nuances or feelings. (I haven't a clue about her husband.) Her undereducated 'stickingherheadinthesand' approach to problems could certainly be another cause of her kids' dysfunctional acting out.

And Hillary? What did Hillary say?

Hello?

Anything?

All these powerful Democratic women are speaking out, but Hillary can't find her tongue?

I guess she said everything she's going to say at the convention, and now she's just going to keep quiet until 2012.

I think she is just waiting for the Repubs to finish their convention. I'm sure the O-bam-a campaign has a plan for her.

Now go tr0ll the Right Wing Sites, and just post "Enough" everytime they post something false

ohmygod it never ends.
She is going out on Monday.
When she is asked she will speak.
Did you read anything but this?
I can't believe you Hillary Haters are still at it.

You are so ill informed it just blows my mind.
Surrogates speak when asked to.
Sebellius is a surrogate, Schultz ia on TV talking, she is asked to go on, she is one of the people who are always on CNN.
Lord have mercy you people are too much.
You got Palin there precisely because of your hate mongering.

Get over it already.

OH, and let me preempt you. Before you start attacking what she doesn't say on Monday surrogates are asked by the campaign to speak, they are also told what subjects to talk about.

You haters are really the last straw in ignorance. You act more like palin than Palin.

In fact, take a good look at her speech because that is a mirror of who you are with your ridiculous hatred of HRC.

See how you feel about Palin and her hate mongering--? that is the feeling you and your friends created in half of the Democratic party so let me tell you bub, if McC and Palin win you can keep looking in that mirror.

troll.

Bravo! Well said.

The rabid rabble here should be very thankful McCain picked Palin. Only something this nightmarish could cauterize the gaping wound they inflicted on the Democratic Party.

I wonder what the numbers are. Palin is being credited for energizing the Republican base, but it is probably has a huge energizing effect on disgruntled Democrats as well.

And what about the Independents? Are they flocking to the McCain/Palin ticket, or are they recoiling in horror like I am?

Dysfunctional Family? PART I

Not only is Palin a hypocrite, not only is she lying, she is ruthless. Her backetball name, 'Sarah Barracuda' seems apt. Palin's family Her family shows many signs of dysfunctionality. Her daughter young and pregnant; often girls get pregnant in order to tell their mother something. Or to give their mother something, a baby. Or both. The timing of 'Bristol' Palin's pregnancy may suggest something, as it may have begun during the time the Palins were trying to decide what to do about the news they were going to have a Down's syndrome child. Bristol may have been not only trying to give her mother a normal baby but also trying to show her she could 'do better' than her mother; this is reminiscent of Geo. Bush who both wanted to show his father how well he could do (the former blackish sheep of the family) but to show up his father, by going after Saddam Hussein, as his father didn't. (Unfortunately, he screwed up royally and shamed himself and his family -- as a murderer of hundreds of thousands.) Kids will do this, have several motivations when they are acting out, and often end up hurting themselves and others, not just their targets, their parents. Especially when they don't have enough education.

In my youth, I learned to hate. I went to war hating. I raced up the ranks because I hated more than some others. The hate dehumanized the enemy and allowed me to kill them without qualms. Then the hate and killing began to devour my soul. I began struggling with immorality of it all for years. Put more simply, I began to think for myself. Once I stopped hating, I started learning about and respecting my enemy. My struggle isn't over yet.

Bush/Cheney/McCain/Palin are just continuations of the hate. With the exception of McCain, these morons have had no experiences to force them to think. McCain's experiences just made him hate even more. All of them hide behind fundamentalist religion to insulate them from thinking for themselves.

The very idea, as expressed by Palin, that Iraq is a holy mission from God is sickening. Palin's inability to seperate a purely human experience--war from a spiritual event combined with McCain's inability to recognize his own bitterness and hatred makes them two of the most dangerous people on the planet. They rank right up there with OBL and the Taliban.

McCain/Palin: I know haters. You and your followers are just that. I don't despise you for your obvious shortcomings, I despise your lack of humanity.

Probably the same way that Biden (Obama is not ready to be Commander in Chief) got nominated and almost all VPs have been nominated since we began a two party system. Try studying history and become informed before you continue to place you foot in your mouth.

With all due respect.

"she denies the scientific truths of global warming and evolution"

I will address two of the above link's scientifically misinformed statements.

Global warming IS a scientific truth but not in the way that Oscar winning Al Gore has so ingeniously stated. The Earth is warmed by a combination of layers of atmosphere, "greenhouses gases", and solar activity. If not for global warming ALL life on Earth would cease to exist. Man has little or possibly no influence on increases and DECREASES in global warming. Since 1998 ALL evidence indicates that Planet Earth has been cooling. This is despite the massive pollution created by China and India.

The primary cause of this cooling and all heating and cooling of ALL the planets is SOLAR FLARE activity. It is so just like the self centered Al Gore's of this world to think that humans are actually significant enough to dramatically effect the heating and cooling cycles of our planet.

Evolution, Creativity, Relativity, Particle Physics, and Quantum Physics are all THEORIES and by definition are unproven. All theories should be taught to critical thinking humans in order that we might resolve inherent conflicts. Einstein's THEORY of Relativity does not allow for the wave AND particle performance of light. Thankfully critically thinking scientists did not adhere to liberal thinking that liberals know everything and are correct in their self proclaimed knowledge. when THEORIES are taught critically thinking humans are able to strive for scientific truths.

How hard can it be running a state with a huge fiscal surplus, thanks to oil production from the North Slope?

And - get this - Palin significantly increased taxes on oil production in Alaska this year. in the year ending June 30, 2008, Alaska collected more than $10 billion, twice the amount from the year before. This was thanks to a windfall profits tax Palin pushed through.

Every Alaska citizen gets a cheque for $2,000 from the state's oil wealth savings account, AND another for $1,200 from the proceeds of Palin's new windfall profits tax.

No wonder the Governor is so popular.

http://www.pubrecord.org/politics/304-palins-office-scrubs-documents-from-governors-website.html

Palin's Office Scrubs Documents From Governor's Website

On July 18, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made the unusual decision of posting two documents accompanied by a harshly worded statement on her website following reports that her husband, Todd Palin, and officials in her office leaked her ex-brother-in-law’s personnel files.

The documents: a release signed by Wooten in May giving his ex-wife's attorney access to his "entire employment file including but not limited to any and all disciplinary action(s) and complaints, and personnel records," and a letter from her attorney addressed "To whom it may concern," stating that any records obtained were done through proper channels.

On Thursday afternoon, Palin’s office removed the two documents from the governor’s official website following a news report that the law enforcement union representing her ex-brother, Mike Wooten, filed a formal complaint alleging the documents were accessed illegally and leaked. (PDF files of those documents can be found here and here).

This is the way forward, for the time being. The FEMALE Dems must carry the torch of truth against Sarah Palin's smears-as-usual tactics.

McCain's VP pick was brilliant, SO LONG as the boys are stuck with responding, because the programmed Rep base will always shrill about "sexism" (they've already started, and for exactly NO provocation!) whenever a male presses Palin on her positions. As McCain has set it up, she's got a permanent GOOJF card, from ever having to defend her extremist views.

Too bad for the Reps, that we've got superlative, competent females like Sebelius on our side, who know the stakes, and know the dishonest tactics the Reps will (and are) resort(ing) to.

This raises the subject of just what path women will take, on their way to helping guide our national politics in new directions. Right now, we collectively see the "norm" behavior of politicians as bluster, bully and blame (the three 'B's), but none of these tactics either works well for women, or comports with the more civilized politics that most women would like to see emerge.

We may have to start with the girls legging it, against rabid alpha wolves like Palin, to let the boys carry on...

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:50 PM on 09/04/2008

I agree that females -- Dems or Repubs -- need to speak out about Palin. In particular, her extreme views on family planning and the role of religion in war and politics. But men can chime in on these points too. Guess we all have to tiptoe on how we express it. Stick to the facts....the fact that the McCain ticket has absolutely no plans for the working middle class, and that a McCain/Palin White House would move this country to the extreme religious right....and that's scary!
