Washington Post:

Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman is among several national security experts helping brief Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin on foreign policy issues as she prepares to hit the campaign trail while cramming for a debate with her Democratic opponent, Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (Del.), in less than a month, according to officials from Sen. John McCain's campaign.

Lieberman, who was the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee but is now an independent, has helped introduce Palin to officials of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the leading pro-Israel lobby. In a meeting Tuesday, the day before she delivered her prime-time address at the Republican National Convention here, Palin assured the group of her strong support for Israel, of her desire to see the United States move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and of her opposition to Iran's aspirations to become a nuclear power, according to sources familiar with the meeting.

And she is speaking to AIPAC--that's the one that matters! I wonder if she discussed her ideas about the rapture?

"LIEberman is among several national security experts helping brief Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin on foreign policy issues"

It might be a good idea to brief MCSAME on foreign policy issues ALSO!?

McCain, traveling in the Middle East to promote his foreign policy expertise, said several times that Iran, a predominately Shiite country, was supplying the mostly Sunni militant group, al-Qaeda. Pressed to elaborate, McSAME said it was "common knowledge and has been reported in the media that al-Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran, that's well known. And it's unfortunate." A few moments later, LIEberman, standing just behind McCain, stepped forward and whispered in his ear. McSAME then said "I'm sorry, the Iranians are training extremists, not al-Qaeda.'"

Saddam's Sunnis had an "Awakening" when we PAID them to fight al Qaeda Sunnis ... and we PROMISED them inclusion in "Iraqi Government" business & bankroll. BUT "Iraqi Government" decided to ATTACK & ARREST, rather than AWARD, Saddam's loyalists.

So now that Saddam's loyalists have "awakened" to the FACT that they've been F**KED by both OUR Government AND the "IRAQI Government" ... Bush=McCain's "SURGE" will be a "SCOURGE" once again.

McCain doesn't even know the difference between the Sunnis and the Shea's himself, he's going to mess her all up right before she goes on stage...

"has helped introduce Palin to officials of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, the leading pro-Israel lobby"...

Begs the question:

So does Cheney have to introduce her to Big Oil, or does her pro-drilling stance indicate that they have already exchanged funds...er, greetings?

This dove-tails with another concern of mine. Not only is Palin getting her foreign policy tutorials from Joe and Randy Schunerman (sp) and their ilk, but so is McCain. I am dying for someone to ask the campaign something like, "Since you're so much for reform and getting rid of the lobbiests, etc., when will you get a real foreign policy expert as your chief advisor instead of a lobbiest?" That also goes for legal, economic, and many more. All of McCain's advisors, from senior on down, are lobbiests now or in recent years.

What the hell does Joe Lieberman know about foreign policy with the exception that the USA should continue supporting Israel with tax payer dollars in order for Israel to annihlate all the Arabs in the ME.Lieberman like Wolf Blitzer are nothing more than AIPAC lobbyists in disguise.
Unfortunately for the US taxpayer and the Arabs in the ME the members of Congress are not made of firmer stuff and do all the bidding of the Israeli lobbies.I can't help but laugh when I hear all this BS from Israel concerning the possibility that Iran may be on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons ,which by the way was proved to be untrue in the latest NIE report, when they possess some 150 to 200 or more nukes plus submarines loaded with US Harpoon missles complete with nuclear warheads to provide a second strike capability.I guess the lobby wants to make sure that Annie Oakley doesn't do or say anything that might upset their gravy train.

Let's apply Senator McCain's standards in choosing a running mate to his security detail. "Sorry, Senator, we had to replace the number 2 spot on your detail. Our process for choosing the new person was very comprehensive, we met with him for an hour or two and googled his name. His only experience is 16 months in the private sector, but by golly, he's a MAVERICK! And besides, what he doesn't know, he can learn on the job."

I sit and read all these comments because I was always working full time and the internet did not have bloggers before. I only lived through the horrors of republican presidents.

The different blog sites provide a heads up of the major train reck of all the Americans on that train.

Democrats comments are the enablers to the republicans each and every election cycle(local or naitonal)

Example: Democrats do not demand our manufactors jobs return to American made products for homeland security reasons. enabler, McCain jobs not coming back

Example: Democrats do not demand or questions the private sector do government job at a higher cost., (private=Profit on taxtayers) the crap, it reduce big government, how is that, government do not operate for profit on the taxpayers. McCain wants soc sec private. China just loans us money to prop up the market. Palin made a speech, market dropped 344 points( enabler)

The world is watching and laughing just how dim witted "We the people still believe we are a super power" (McCain did I tell you I was a POW do you want to see my scars?)( enabler)

Ronald Reagan brain died before the body did. When president just look at his records for funding health care for America people

Heh, heh! Great frikkin' point!! I wonder how McCain would react if he was told that? Send it to Obama's camp. Wouldn't it be great if Obama started using it as an anology?

In general it's a pretty good idea when looking for an education to pick an expert.

One can get a fairly good idea of expertise by results.

On that basis why would anyone seeking to learn about foreign policy have anything to do with anyone associated with President Pan's disastrous foreign policy.

It would be like learning about economics from him and his gang of dead enders.

Though to be fair one could probably learn a lot about brush clearing and "hunting".

I don't recall if you get the questions beforehand in a debate, but really the questions are usually very vanilla. He-ll, you and I could get the basics of foreign policy in 30 days -- enough to at least sound semi-intelligent in a debate. That's the farce of this whole thing; she really knows jack squat about it, but the American people will think she does because she got the "Cliff's Notes" version of it.

Sad.

I'm sure she'll master the difference between the Hezbollah and Al Qaeda in 40 days.

The debate hosts should throw some curve balls at Palin. Something she couldn't have been coached on.

Let's see if she can remember - much less pronounce - Medyedev's name! Yeah, all Joe Biden has to do is create some vacuums for her to fill - you know, step back and see if she can fill the space with correct and relevant information. Let her talk! Increases the odds we'll get some great quotes and headlines!

This is outrageous. How dare the Republican Party care so little for our country that they are willing to offer up as their VP and possible president someone who knows nothing about foreign policy (and I'm guessing not much about domestic affairs outside of Alaska either).

They truly believe that the complex issues relating to foreign affairs can be learned (as in absorbed and understood, not memorized) in 30 days or less by a person who has a very thin academic resume and spent most of her life in an insular part of the country?

The shortsided hubris of the Republican party never ceases to amaze.

It's just habit. What experience did GWB have when he got elected? I'm sure you've seen his "resume" circulating on the web in the past. It shows he was very good at destroying whatever he touched, a kind of reverse Midas. A lot of Americans voted this guy in, we got what "we" asked for. I think people are finally waking up, though. And so many young people - whose opinions are not showing up on these "close" polls since they are on cell phones and wouldn't pick up anyway - may surprise is all on election day.

Actually, among all of the blathering on about "executive experience" and "credentials," the thought crossed my mind that GWB was a 2-term governor of Texas before becoming the worst president in US history.

So, maybe it doesn't take that much experience to understand how to order people around. Rather, it is more important to decided upon *what* the goals you are trying to achieve, so that you don't get influenced by special interests into making corrupt, haphazard, and self-immolating decisions.
