Key Alaska allies of John McCain are trying to derail a politically charged investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner in order to prevent a so-called "October surprise" that would produce embarrassing information about the vice presidential candidate on the eve of the election.

In a move endorsed by the McCain campaign Friday, John Coghill, the GOP chairman of the state House Rules Committee, wrote a letter seeking a meeting of Alaska's bipartisan Legislative Council in order to remove the Democratic state senator in charge of the so-called "troopergate" investigation.

All in true Republican spirit of the law. Oh Im sorry, I meant, Spirit of breaking and ignoring the laws to fit their own personal needs. The repugs are masters at illegally manipulating the legal system to fit their needs.

No surprise here. The derailing of TrooperGate would be part of the Republican's due diligence. Any scandal to be found will be found by the professionals ... The National Enquirer.

Thank God, there really are SOME members of the press who are still concerned, honest, and competent enough to do their jobs, even though they will be crucified by the Republican Wrong ! Read Frank Rich's article in today's New York Times !

Is this an example of what the republicans call "bipartisan" effort?

We really need to replace that "partisan" Democrat with a "nonpartisan Republican!"

Palin's Reformer Image Tainted by History of Ethical Lapses

When John McCain trotted out Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate, his campaign and much of the U.S. news media depicted the Alaska governor as an ethics "reformer" whose meteoric political rise came from her confronting corruption within her own state Republican Party.

But a closer look at Palin's short political career reveals that she committed some of the same ethical lapses that she has attacked, especially during her unsuccessful bid for lieutenant governor in 2002. She also has shown herself to be a thin-skinned politician quick to see herself as the target of conspiracies.

Palin's Office Scrubs Documents From Governor's Website

On July 18, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made the unusual decision of posting two documents accompanied by a harshly worded statement on her website following reports that her husband, Todd Palin, and officials in her office leaked her ex-brother-in-law"s personnel files.

The documents: a release signed by Wooten in May giving his ex-wife's attorney access to his "entire employment file including but not limited to any and all disciplinary action(s) and complaints, and personnel records," and a letter from her attorney addressed "To whom it may concern," stating that any records obtained were done through proper channels.

On Thursday afternoon, Palin"s office removed the two documents from the governor"s official website following a news report that the law enforcement union representing her ex-brother, Mike Wooten, filed a formal complaint alleging the documents were accessed illegally and leaked. (PDF files of those documents can be found here and here).

I guess it is too much to ask of a repukelican to give us just one stinking politician that isn't knee deep in doo-doo. And then they compound it by saying, "Don't pay attention to the pile of doo-doo that our lady is standing in." There is no way that she was vetted.

More of the same. I hope that they don't get away with it. Isn't this just like GWB? Lie, cheat, steal, cover-up. Four more years of the same.

It's not the so much the crime, it's the coverup that gets you every time!

Palin's husband must be very wealthy to afford his own private lawyer. We had to go to the comunity services group for our needs. And they say he's just an oil patch worker, indeed!

How much does an oil patch worker make?

I read were she cc'd every copy of every piece of official business to her husband. Why? Who was making decisions?

It sounds like it might be nothing more than not trusting her own judgement and getting a second opinion "ON EVERYTHING," but from her fisherman husband!!!!!

Who will she be getting opinions from if she is elected VP?... besides her husband?

I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.
