Obama To Dispatch Female Surrogates To Undercut Palin

Senator Barack Obama will increasingly lean on prominent Democratic women to undercut Gov. Sarah Palin and Senator John McCain, dispatching Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to Florida on Monday and bolstering his plan to deploy female surrogates to battleground states, Obama advisers said Thursday.

Mrs. Clinton's campaign event in Florida, her first for Mr. Obama since the Democratic convention, will serve as a counterpoint to the searing attacks and fresh burst of energy that Ms. Palin injected into the race with her convention speech on Wednesday, Obama aides said.

Personally, I think this is a mistake.

Hillary said she would campaign on his behalf, and so she should. Any reference to the other candidates should be about policy, not gender. Why play into their hands? Wasn't anything learned in the primary?

Any comment she makes should be of a passing, almost joking nature, then back to issues. We will never get past this garbage if we don't stop adding to the pile.

Hillary should respond. Palin wants to ride off Hillary's coattails--even though she didn't do any of the work. You don't just try to inherit Hillary's base just because you have ovaries. Hillary actually had substance. Palin cries "sexism" against the media; however, she doesn't mind when Limbaugh calls her a "babe" or when Republican men at the convention sport "Hottie VP" buttons. Real women want equal rights--not preferential treatment.

As Arianna said on Larry King Live last night, the Repugs are exploiting the Palin soap opera to divert attention from the fact that McCain and Bush are ideological clones. Hillary and other Democratic surrogates should confront the McCain-Palin ticket forcefully on the issues but avoid personal attacks. The last thing the Obama campaign wants is the emergence of a "Hillary vs. Sarah catfight" media narrative that would divert attention from the issues.

have been a big fan of barack for nearly 4 yrs. but i think he sometimes OVER ESTIMATES the american people. most aren't blogging or trying to learn the issues, they're more content watching 'dancing with the has beens'. alot of americans have to been spoon fed. i met a woman the other day around 72, asked her about obama and she said she wasn't voting for him because she didn't like the major of detroit, who happens to be black. when i told her about obama attending harvard, pres. of law review etc. this woman had no idea. i don't think she's an isolated case
