Tom Ridge Sums Up The McCain Platform

Well, that's the end of the Republican National Convention. Quite a night! Quite a message! That's a lot to absorb, but let's let Tom Ridge summarize the big takeaway from four days of McCain's coronation.

TOM BROKAW: But the fact is, governor, that you have had eight years of a bush administration and a lot of Republicans in Congress for the last eight years, so why wouldn't the american people say, look they had their shot we're going to change?

TOM RIDGE: Because John Bush - because John McCain is very much his own man...

Actually, I think "Barack America" is more like an effective and clever compaign slogan than a Freudian slip. It evokes all sorts of positive sound associations and word plays, such as "[Take] Back America" and "Rock America." Say "John Bush" a few times too many and it becomes a lead gag in your mouth. But keep saying "Barack America" and it takes off and flies. "Barack America." "Barack America." "Barack America." That's a rising chant that'll make 'em run. "Barack America!"

Looks like Gov Ridge's little freudian slip speaks volumes. Even he, a one-time VP contended for Mcsame, thinks of him as a "more of the same" candidate. Lucky for the rest of us, McSame picked gov Palin instead. If he had picked Gov Ridge as his running mate, a lot more people who cherish freedom and equality for women may have been tempted to vote for the Rethugnitan ticket.
