Campaigns Begin Dash To Election

Fresh off back-to-back conventions, the two presidential campaigns took off Friday on a 60-day dash to the White House in a political landscape reshaped by the candidacy of Gov. Sarah Palin and Republican efforts to seize the mantle of change.

The race, transformed by zeal among the Republican base for Senator John McCain's running mate, got a burst of new life at the same time that television viewership numbers showed that nearly 40 million people, a record for an American political convention, tuned to the major broadcast and cable-news networks to watch Mr. McCain's acceptance speech in St. Paul on Thursday night. That was a bit more than those who watched Senator Barack Obama's speech in Denver last week.

We request you provide the citizens of the United States with the opportunity to see Governor Palin interviewed by a variety of news media outlets.

This election is a crucial one to us in terms of a wide range of domestic and foreign policy issues. Given the current concerns about numerous topics including health care, the rise in unemployment, the tense relations between Russia and Georgia, and the ongoing war in Iraq, it is neither sufficient nor acceptable that we hear Governor Palin's opinions and ideas only through pre-written speeches, press releases and select interviews with "soft" and "friendly" news sources such as People magazine and Fox News.

In less than 60 days, Senator McCain and Governor Palin could be elected President and Vice President of the United States. If elected, Senator McCain will be the oldest individual to be voted into the presidency. People PLEASE register to vote before October 3rd. If possible request an absentee ballot and vote EARLY. I am not taking any chances with the republican this year; they like to disenfranchise voters, especially minorities.

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. -- The McCain campaign is bringing two Bush administration communication veterans on board to beef up the team that will travel with Palin.

Tucker Eskew has joined the Palin team as a senior advisor, and campaign officials said he will play a role akin to chief of staff. Eskew served as director of the White House Office of Global Communications and as director of media affairs.

The campaign also confirmed Friday that Tracey Schmitt is joining as deputy communications director and national spokesperson. She is a former Republican National Committee spokesperson
