While CNN was the undisputed winner of the Democratic National Convention, Fox News swept the Republican National Convention ratings race in impressive fashion, beating the broadcast networks each night in the 10 p.m. hour and setting several records in the process.

Bill O'Reilly's Thursday evening broadcast, which featured Barack Obama, was the second highest rated "O'Reilly Factor" in the show's history, topped only by a March 2003 show at the beginning of the Iraq War.

John McCain's speech Thursday night and Sarah Palin's speech Wednesday night — which both came in at 9.2 million viewers — were the highest rated convention telecasts in cable news history, and they tied for the third-largest telecast in Fox News history, behind only George Bush's address on the eve of the Iraq invasion (March 19, 2003, 9.7 million viewers) and a 2004 presidential debate between George Bush and John Kerry (September 30, 2004, 9.5 million viewers).

Simple math, folks. Fox gets the Bush/McCain supporters and CNN, MSNBC, and the other networks split the rest. Yes, MSNBC has become much more Left oriented, but that merely serves to balance out Fox. When I want fair and balanced, I watch CNN. When I get nauseous from O'Reilly, I switch to Olberman.

I only discovered towards the end of the Dem convention that C-Span was the BEST network to watch the conventions on. They showed ALL of the speakers, while the major nets just had the usual tired discredited pundits self-flagellate during more minor speakers. When there was no speaker, C-Span showed scenes of the convention floor, and made you feel more like you were there. You could see how WHITE the GOP convention was, for example.

Seeing self-serving pundits like James Carville who is never right about anything (sorry to only single him out but a good example) give us predictions on stuff gave me a belly-ache.

Too bad NONE of the major networks showed all the ugliness outside the convention. Riot police dressed in black like SS or Gestapo arresting protesters and beating them around. Seeing it on youtube was a lesson on what was REALLY going on. The Amy Goodman arrest video was pretty bad.

Way to go FOX NEWS!!!!
It is obvious that those knuckle draggers at MSNBC are at the bottom of the pile, once again. What I love though, is they keep claiming they are the "brightest crayons in the box" - I don't think so!

I mean, really, WHO CARES! We want to know about the future of our Country. I could care less about numbers in viewership.

On the otherhand, I'm grateful that the RETHUGS were exposed for who they really are in front of as many people as possible.

God makes no mistakes.

Of course they got the highest ratings, since they're the official media arm of the RNC. Would you have expected anything else?

This simply proves that intelligent, informed viewers didn't watch the rnc dog and pony.
