COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The banners, buttons and signs say McCain-Palin, but the crowds say something else.

"Sa-rah! Pa-lin!" came the chant at a Colorado Springs rally on Saturday moments before Republican nominee John McCain took the stage with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a woman who was virtually unknown to the nation just a week earlier. The day before, thousands screamed "Sa-rah! Sa-rah! Sa-rah!" at an amphitheater outside Detroit.

"Real change with a real woman," read one sign at a Wisconsin rally. "Hurricane Sarah leaves liberals spinning," cried another.

In the short time since McCain spirited the 44-year-old first-term governor out of Alaska and onto a national stage as his running mate, Palin has become an instant celebrity. And since her speech at the Republican National Convention, watched by more than 40 million Americans, she is emerging as the main attraction for many voters at their campaign appearances.

"She's the draw for a lot of people," said Marilyn Ryman, who came to see her at the Colorado rally inside an airport hangar. "The fact that she's someone new, not the old everything we've seen before."

McCain has sought to portray Palin as a bulldog who will help him "shake things up" on Capitol Hill.

Washington, he said Saturday, is "going to get to know her, but I can't guarantee you they'll love her."

"We do!" came a cry from the crowd.

At a rally in Albuquerque later, McCain acknowledged the juice she has injected into his campaign.

"The response to her has been overwhelming, it's been incredible," he said.

Perhaps recognizing the excitement she is generating, the McCain campaign was planning to keep Palin with McCain for several more days, rather than dispatch her to campaign by herself, as had initially been discussed.

On Saturday, McCain and Palin rode their post-convention wave into the competitive West, where Democrats have made recent gains in traditional Republican strongholds.

After a day of talking up economic themes in the Midwest, the pair attracted thousands at a rally in Colorado Springs, a city at the foot of Pike's Peak that is home to many conservatives and military families.

It was McCain's first appearance in Colorado since the Democrats had their convention in Denver last month.

Both campaigns consider the battleground state in play with the election less than two months away.

"Colorado, it's going to be a hard-fought battle here," Palin said. As soon as she began speaking, a group of supporters interrupted her with a cheer of "Sa-rah! Sa-rah!"

Palin is even getting the star treatment from celebrity magazines, Web sites and television programs, which have played up her personal story as a mother of five children, one of whom is 17 years old, unmarried and pregnant.

The excitement with which people are turning out to see Palin could complicate a key line of attack that the McCain campaign has been building against Democrat Barack Obama for months.

Republicans have sought to cast Obama's support as nothing more than shallow adoration and hype befitting a movie star. They have mocked his appeal among Hollywood types and compared his star status to that of lightweights like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. They say there is nothing of substance to back up the candidacy of the Illinois senator.

Palin herself asked in her convention speech what happens "when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot _ what exactly is our opponent's plan?"

Obama has been careful in his comments about her, saying Saturday that she has flip-flopped on spending earmarks, but also calling her a "skillful politician."

While campaigning in New Mexico, which is shaping up to be another competitive state, Palin and McCain staged their own Hollywood-like entrance at a rally.

After a rousing introduction by actor Robert Duvall, McCain and Palin made their entrance by bounding off a "Straight Talk Express" bus that drove straight into the rally's convention hall, underneath a giant America flag that was raised like a curtain.

As a delighted crowd screamed its approval, the rally was clouded by either exhaust or stage smoke.

Voters interviewed at rallies said their support for McCain has been cemented with his pick of Palin, who is a social conservative and reassures many who were wary about McCain on those issues.

Patricia Hoskins said she was already backing McCain but that Palin "really lit the fire under me."

And in the brief time that McCain and Palin have been campaigning since she introduced herself to the nation, many women at their events have said they identify with her personal struggles.

"She's every mom," said Lindsey Denny, a mother of 7, including a set of quintuplets, two of whom have special needs like Palin's infant son with Down syndrome. Denny said Palin's inclusion on the ticket was "110 percent" the reason why she went to see her Saturday.

McTraitor challenge:

(Websters) Traitor : traitor noun
1 : one who betrays another's trust or is false to an obligation or duty
2 : one who commits treason

FACTS
1) At the 2008 RNC, John McCain admits that "they broke me" (in the prison)
2) By definition : US Code 2381. Treason:
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
(also see United States Code , Title 10, Part II, Chapter 47, Section 904, Article 104)
3) John McCain aided the enemy, when they "broke him" in that Vietnamese prison. McCain said: "Eventually, I gave them my ship's name and squadron number, and confirmed that my target had been the power plant."
Recalling how he gave up military information to his interrogators, McCain said: "I regret very much having done so. the Code of Conduct for American Prisoners of War orders us to refrain from providing any information beyond our names, rank and serial number." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_United_States_Military_Code_of_Conduct
--- Conclusion: John McCain committed Treason against the United States.

Can anyone refute this?

I find it sad that McCain was so desperate that He had to choose a Woman who talks B.S. and then runs and hides without so much as a word to the public that is not written for Her (by Bush"s speech writer by the way).

Also, Sarah Palin has even taken over McSame's Campaign from Him Which shows He can't even take control of His own Campaign! I think His choice of a running mate was wise because it shows the world just how off the cuff and spontanious He does things without thinking them through or the consequences ...Just like His twin George W. Bush.

Perhaps the McCain-Palin ticket should be treated on its own terms. In return for the "respect" for the Obama-Biden ticket often professed at the Twin Cities Republican convention, the Democrats should offer two gifts to fill in gaps in the respective reform agendas of candidates McCain and Palin.

Mr. McCain lacks a crucial prop. In respect for him and the three decades in Washington that he has selflessly endured colleagues and friends who are "me first" politicians, a man of his stature and ambition deserves a white horse suitable for mounting.

While Ms. Palin needs no new props, she may benefit from additional preparation. As
she has leapfrogged past and cast aside a mayor and state party leaders who advised or supported her, she needs no additional stature. However, for the next stage in her career, a candidate of her ambition merits a bronze replica of the 25th Amendment to the Constitution, to advise her about the proper procedure for a declaration of presidential disability.

Lets just call it for what it is. John McCain had nothing to do with selecting Sarah Palin to run as VP for the Republican party. In 10 days John McCain has been smoked by his own parties VP and now is marginalized. The best way to go is to write in Sarah Palin for President and call it good.

McCain is being pushed out of his own campaign. The GOP is so excited about Palin that one guest on C-Span said it is a shame that McCain is on the ticket. McCain has to take Palin on the road with him because they want to see her more than McCain. How embarrassing it is for McCain. He could potentially be on the trail by himself giving another boring, poorly delivered speech and the crowd gets antsy and starts chanting Sarah! Sarah! McCain needs to watch his back from his own party.

I watched some of McCain/Palin's campaigning this weekend and I got the distinct impression that John McCain wants to be Sarah Palin who wants to be Hillary Clinton. Its like Sarah Palin is the girdle John McCain puts on himself to morph himself into Hillary Clinton. It was quite an eye popper.

Good grief!! is Palen becomeing (gasp) a celebrity who is worshiped by the GOP forno logical reason? Oh my!

Given the realities of history, actual patriots know not to look for "love of country" wrapped in a flag and waving a cross, in the manner of the corrupt and disingenuous Bush-McCain-Palin party.

Seeing as Sarah has good as told us she is a pitbull and the lipstick is the only thing that makes her human I seriously question the repulicans judgement.
I mean four legged animals known to savage small children, with make-up?

I thought animal control dealt with these things.

Palin is out on the stump today bashing O for his earmark requests. Funny, she didn't have a problem requesting earmarks as Mayor of Wasilla, or as Gov. of AK. In fact, she requested more $$ per capita in earmarks than any other Gov. in the US.

Conservatives in general hate earmarks. And we all know McCain hates them. And sure, I'll admit that some of them are dumb. But there is one thing comes about from the vast majoity of earmarks. They create jobs. And in-so-doing inject $$ into local and regional economies where non would exist without them. Palin knew this as Mayor. And she certainly understood this as Gov. I find her comments on the subject to be totally disingenous.

I gotta say one more thing on this earmark thing.

Take the Bridge to Nowhere. Palin was for it, before she was against it. First, it would go actually go somewhere. It would have linked Ketchikan to Gravina Is. The Ketchikan airport in on the Is. Currently people take a water taxi to get to and from the airport. A good deal of freight comes into and goes out of Ketchikan by air. It too must be shuttled by boat.

The $$ spent it would have helped more than just Ketchikan. Alaska's local hire laws and "Buy American" laws means that all workers would have come from Alaska. All material would have come from US sources. Steel would produced, fabricated, trucked and barged from sources in the lower 48 for assembly by Alaskan workers.

Furthermore, the bridge would have opened up land for commercial and residential expansion. Ketchikan has been stagnant growth wise for a long time. Why? Becauses sits on a thin strip of flat land at the base of steep mountains. There is nowhere to expand but up. The Is. has more area of flat buildable land. Providing vital access to the Is. would have spurred residential expansion as well as provided lands to companies seeking to set up shop in Ketchikan.

I gotta say one more thing on this earmark thing. (part 2)

This Bridge project would not have been a waste of money. It would have provided good quality jobs for hundreds of Ketchkan residents for years. And it would have provided the potential for growth to the small town of Ketchikan, both residential and business for generations.

When Palin (who without consulting with the Legislature first) told the Fed "Thanks, but no Thanks" to the $$ to build the bridge, she was taken to task by the City and some members of the Legislature. Her response was basically..............Sorry, I didn't understand just how important the project was.

Now I ask you. Does that sound someone with the experience and judgement to be one heartbeat away from the POUS? It sure doesn't to me.

(Subtext) Sorry for the spelling errors and such. I just watched another Palin repeat of her blasting O and I am so mad I can't see straight.

McSame has sold his soul in the pursuit of the Presidency - his ambition has been his undoing. Now Satan has come to collect in the form of Sarah Palin.

It's happening already, Geraldo Rivera had a picture of the two on his show Saturday where he had Grandma Sarah's photo first as he talked about her and Grandpa John. Grandpa John better watch out because if she keeps this up the ticket will change to - Palin/McCain before November.

Sarah Palin is like George Bush in drag and the same people who loved him
love her. LIke him she is rather heartless, sarcastic, not a fair fighter, basically
a liar, has been capapulted to undeserved success (she by her sex appeal,
he by his family). She is incredibly ambitious, doesn't give enough time to her
children, proclaims to be religious, but is a hypocrite who cheats on her husband.
Like Bush she has caught Rove's eye and he sees in her a chance for more of
his anti-human machinations. Like Bush she has a passive spouse who sits by
and watches the moral carnage. She likes to kill things, has a massive ego, is
basically aemotional. And, like Bush, if she gains office she will"lacking human,
caring instincts"do as much damage to our country, or even more, than he did.
