Obama And Stephanopoulos

Barack Obama gave an interview to George Stephanopoulos on ABC's This Week. The interview is set to air tomorrow morning, but here are some excerpts released by ABC.

On The Decision To Intervene On Behalf Of Fannie Mae And Freddie Mac

Intervention was necessary. I'm inclined to support some form of intervention to prevent a long-term, much bigger crisis...We are not bailing out shareholders and investors and management. They were making a lot of money because of the lack of regulation. All those profits were private. We don't want to make all those losses suddenly public and they get away without taking a haircut...We are going to have to take a look at how we regulate the financial markets and mortgages markets going forward.

On McCain's Choice Of Sarah Palin As His Running Mate

He chose somebody who may be even more aligned with George Bush - or Dick Cheney, or the politics we've seen over the last eight years - than john McCain himself is...She wouldn't be governor of Alaska is she wasn't a skilled politician, and I think her performance at the convention showed what a skilled politician she is.

I am Canadian living now in the US and watching the 'annointment' of Sarah Palin with concern. I do hope the Democrats take her seriously, while most folks I speak with her in North Carolina see her for what she is, there are perhaps enough to add to McCain's base that could elect them to office. In this case, the media bought into it and is more responsible than McCain for making her a 'star'. Tom Brokaw should start do do the type of journalism he used to be famous for - stop pandering to Conservatives!

Great article - here on the HuffPost - you should read the entire thing but here are some highlights!

“The “No Surrender” warrior "Surrendered: to the agents of intolerance, not just by dumping his Pal Joe Lieberman for Palin but by moving so far to the Right”

“Most off the biography supplied by Her and The McCain camp is Fiction.”

“He chose Partisanship and Politics Over Country.”

It also lays out all of the lies in her record.

She is McCain's Princess Diana(without the finesse of course). People don't want to see that bumbling idiot, they want to see her. Just like Charles, he will quickly tire of this new young plaything.
I am tired of her already, she seems to actually enjoy the slurs she spews with a smile, I do not find her feminine at all, she is shrill, snarky, nasty, sarcastic and viscous. Her voice has a nasal tone that is very irritating. If Palin-McCain don't get to actual issues people will quickly lose interest in this politician.

Look Sarah Palin is governor like Georg Bush was governor, he even responsible for a much larger state Texas and how did the executive experience help. Make no mistake Sarah Palin=GW Bush. Don't make the same mistake folks. Do you want another 4 yrs of the same crap.

I'm glad you said this. I've been saying this ever since the republicans been using this experience thing. I would love for Keith Olberman or Rachel to mention this. I just don't know how to contact them.

Bush = All hat, no cattle.
McCain = Ain't the lead dog, so the scenery never changes.
Palin = Chicken, and pork, but no beef.

It is possible to remain popular for approx. 60 days. It's harder for a longer period of time. Team Obama needs another game changer. Something like the 1964 Daisy commercial used by Johnson against Goldwater. He needs scare the hell out of old people regarding their SS. Re: the abortion issue, they need demonstrate how each one of the 50 states will become a war zone if Roe v. Wade is overturned (show the photos of the doctors being killed) and the photo of the innocent receptionist being hurt at a women's clinic. Really hard stuff and set the Republithugs back on their heels.

this is about mc cain..

so lets attach him to either palin or bush... his choice.

speaking of which.. does he believe in no choice in the case of rape or incest?

does he believe in drilling in anwar?

does he believe that this is god's war?

that states should be allowed to break away from the union?

or....

does he stand by his 90% agreement votes with bush?

"and I think her PERFORMANCE at the convention showed what a skilled politician she is."

I'm adding this to my favorite quotes list. The others would be "it's like they are proud of being ignorant" and the lastest is "they must think you're stupid"....

She cannot hold her popularity for long if she's too chicken to speak at a news conference.
We need people at every McCain rally dressed in chicken suits holding signs asking, Where's the pitbull? Did she become a chicken?"

I think you're sither underestimating or overestimating the people who identify with her.

This is high school, and she's the cheerleader.

I won my junior class Presidency running against the 'popular' kids... I found out they wern't so popular in that not everybody liked them... but it took a lot of work, and a lot of reaching out, and we couldn't take anything for granted.

I can't keep from remembering Bush won two elections. There are a lot of dim bulbs out there. We can't take anything for granted, least of all the appeal of someone like Palin to dim bulbs.

I think the initial love affair with Palin's going to wear very thin.

The Enquirer's all over her -- now there's the 'affair' allegation they plan to cover more thoroughly next week.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:35 AM on 09/07/2008

This should be interesting since The Enquirer has gained a little more legitimacy since uncovering John Edwards extra-marital affair, destroying his political career.

and because they got Edwards, no one can accuse them of targeting either party.

In four years no one will care that Edwards cheated just like no one cares Jmac cheated on his wife.

The guy she’s alleged to have her affair with was trying to seal his divorce records by emergency order today and was DENIED.

McCain letting Karl Rove choose Sarah Palin as his running mate, and then actually picking her without thoroughly vetting her DISQUALIFIES McCain for the office. It shows him to be a RECKLESS OPPORTUNIST.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/07/opinion/07rich.html?hp

"Whatever we do and don’t know about Palin’s character at this point, there is no ambiguity in what her ascent tells us about McCain’s character and potential presidency." "His decision-making process is impetuous and, in its Bush-like preference for gut instinct over facts, potentially reckless." -Frank Rich

I think it shows how he is now being used. the religious right understands that she has one of the best shots to succeed him by death or disability of any vp ever and she is being rushed past all the normal sentinels without serious vetting. She is the company of Greeks hiding in the Trojan Horse and McCain is the Trojan Horse. Davis said today that she would do a press conference when the campaign wanted her to and when she was "comfortable" It is a mere two months to the election. In a year or two we may see a Pres. in the WH who is ready to impose a theocracy on the US - a theocracy that happens to love the money changers and war makers of the world. this President will have avoided 99.9% of the usual scrutiny and may have been exposed to real questions only one or two times. she will be armed with distracting one liners at the debate and may refuse to actually give any answers. and she may do one friendly interview on Fox before her ascent. The media should be screaming bloody murder. McCain is being used.

18 months ago Rightwingers thought dems were so foolish to go gah-gah while chanting "obama" while dems really didn't know anything about him.

Rightwingers would NEVER do that ...

Rightwingers would NEVER go gah-gah for someone they JUST MET ...

Rightwingers would NEVER chant someone's name and praise that person as if that person were God, right?

... um... wait a min. just 8 days ago rightwingers heard Sarah Palins name for the FIRST TIME ... and ... THAT SAME DAY ... rightwingers were praising the woman, whose name they COULD NOT EVEN PRONOUNCE correctly, as if she were the 2nd. coming ... then ... 5 days later - after they learned how to pronounce her name ... rightwingers chant ... "Sarah, Sarah" ... after she delivers a speech, written by Geo. W. Bush's 2004 speech writer.

looks like the republicans have met their God and THEIR God is a FEMALE. Whoda thunk it.

HA HA HA HA HA HA ... Rightwingers have a FEMALE GOD!!! ... karma?

Ask Sarah what she thinks of the Fannie Mae intervention, and I'm sure she'll say something like this:

"Well, if her parents had just named her something more unique, then perhaps she wouldn't be having these problems. Take for instance, our beautiful daughter Bristol. We named her after our favorite fishing hole, and look how productive she turned out to be"...........
