Inhofe Questions Whether Obama "Really Loves His Country"

Some harsh talk from Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK):

Regardless of what polls show, Inhofe said, voters will have to ask themselves a question once they get behind the curtain in the voting booth on Election Day.

"Do you really want to have a guy as commander in chief of this country when you can question whether or not he really loves his country?" he asked.

"That's the big question.''

The story quotes an Obama aide criticizing Inhofe's remarks, then a runs a "clarification" from Inhofe that seems just as harsh:

"Let me be clear,'' he said.

"I am not questioning Sen. Obama's patriotism, but you have to question why at times he seems so obviously opposed to public displays of patriotism and national pride, like wearing an American flag lapel pin.''

The message coming out of Minneapolis sure does seem to have crystallized: McCain's a patriot, Obama...not so much.

Strange, isn't it, that in nearly every poll about the "Stupidest Senator in America" Senators Inhofe and Coburn from Oklahoma consistently finish in the top (or the bottom) five.

John McCain gave his acceptance speech with no flag pin on his lapel!! I have alerted Homeland Security, for surely John McCain must be an American-hating Terrorist-in-waiting for he did not WEAR his LAPEL PIN!! Oh my stars and garters... someone please call the CIA to perform a McCain rendition to Cairo where we can find out what McCain knows... he must be part of a sleeper cell hell bent on destroying America through a series of non-pinned lapels.

Why is it that if you are a Republican you are automatically assumed to be Patriotic but if you are a Democrat, you have to prove it?

Obama loves his country every bit as much as you do, Mr. Inhofe. Why else would he have spent all those years working as a community organizer? Or as a civil rights lawyer? Or as a Constitutional law professor?

These weren't jobs that made Obama money at the time or advanced his career. He did them because he wanted to do his part to help his community and strengthen America. In other words, serve a cause greater than himself.

What's really behind Inhofe's unfortunate statement? The Republicans don't have a record to talk about, and they have nothing to offer America going forward. So they have to attack the other guy's character and patriotism. And hope that voters are too stupid to see through it.

Obama was a community political organizer organizing protests - much different from commendable those who organize soup kitchens or those who organize self-help groups for homeowners who can't pay their mortgage. All of Obama's moves have been designed to achieve political ends!!

Obama was hired as a community organizer by the local Catholic churches. He helped people in neighborhoods with high unemployment get job training centers. He helped poor blacks living in substandard housing make sure that the city tested their apartments for asbestos as it had done in other areas.

But that is what you are really afraid of, isn't it, Fuzzy? You don't want poor blacks to get organized. Why don't you come out and say you are afraid of black people getting organized and stop this crap about protests and soup kitchens.

In fact, if Obama had organized soup kitchens for poor blacks, you would have said he was just giving people hand outs and increasing their dependence on government.

Obama spent HOURS both paid and unpaid, organizing and facilitating with communities in S. Chicago - have you been there too? Helping the folks that lost their jobs, meeting with prospective companies to help them find work - which gets them out of the Unemployment line. Assisting with the homeless to find suitable living arrangements - which builds self confidence and moves people towards better opportunities and self support.
And what have you offered to Community Organizations - list details of your accomplishments and hours please ???

We know what Imhofe means: Only WHITE Americans are capable of loving America. Look at the RNC convention it did not even look like America, no diversity. It is what they preach. Only white Republicans are the real Americans and patriots. It has been their mantle since the beginning of time. Just look at past conventions, there has always been a stark contrast between the look of the DNC and the RNC. How can the RNC convince us that they are the party of change when all we have ever seen is a sea of white faces. I was so outraged by this that I went to Inhofe's website and sent him an email with my objections to his absurd patriotism test. Does he realize that Sen. I have some news for Americans that no one has likely considered. I am a Canadian and like most in our country are watching your elections very close as the outcomes has a profound effect on us and on what we will do in the future.

One thing you better understand is the whole world sees McCain and the GOP as warmongers and many like Canada have their young soldiers dying in combat in Afghanistan. Well you might want to consider what will happen if McCain is elected.

There will be a huge ground swell among the citizens of the countries currently fighting in Afghanistan to pull out as most will not tolerate the U.S. continuing on in an illegal occupation rather than going to Iraq to fight the real enemies that attacked your country on 9/11. If this happens and you think it won't make a difference you better think again because as far as I can see Iraq has just increased support for terrorism within the religous fanatics. Of course the GOP has now adopted the Iraq invasion as a holy war so should really help you as well!!!!!

This is disgusting. Does it show love of your country to never vote in favor of any improved benefits for veterans? John McCain may be a veteran, but he never helps them. He voted against the GI bill, for example. He has consistently shown his disdain for veterans for years. Apparently, it's more important to save rich people from taxes than help those who have suffered and/or served. It makes me sick that patriotism is reduced to wearing a flag pin. Show me the money. I want to see patriotism in actions, not meaningless displays with nothing behind them but rhetoric.
