Voter Caging

Truthout:

How many voter-registration mass mailers are "returned to sender" in the run-up to Election Day may determine how many Ohio residents are eligible to vote.

Ohio election officials are sending out a mass mailer stamped "do not forward" to all registered voters today (Sept. 5) with an absentee ballot application and other important notices for Nov. 4.

What's important here is not so much what's going out as what's being returned to sender.

If I the government can't provide a free and fair election then why am I paying my taxes?

Is this still America? Or have we become a banana republic?

We need Jimmy Carter to stop running around the world to ensure that third world countries hold fair elections, Carter must oversee the elections in the USA, which are becoming more and more corrupt.

Obama/Biden

That's why O'bama needed to be leading in the polls before Election Day by enough to make vote manipulation obvious. If it's close they'll get away with it again.

North Dakota has no voter registration. You just go and vote. Nobody knows or cares if you're a Democrat or Republican or neither. So no one can "purge" Democrats from the rolls.

While we have some of the troubling voting machines here in MN, all this tampering with voting registrations is so foreign to me. I don't know if we have high turnout because we have relatively *easy* voter registration - you can register the day of the election here with a valid driver's license and a current utility bill verifying current address on said license - or if the fact that we have such spectacular turnout drove our rules to be relatively easy.

I pity those in states that are so messed up registration wise.

Oh it's starting already. I can just feel the Dem lawyer machine reving it's engine to try to sue it's way into the WH.

You Republican dogs already beat the Democrats to that ploy. You did that in 2000. Keep up!

So what are you saying, Bush really won in 2000. Ludicrous!

Face it OJ! The election in 2000 was "One Man, ... One Vote".

William "Wheezer" Rehnquist cast the only vote that counted in that election, ... for George W Bush, ... McCain's pride and joy.

Won't happen again. The margin this time will be solid. Grandpappy gets to ride out his remaining years in the Senate. And Sally from the Valley goes back to Wasilla where she can watch the sun go down on her political career.

In Ohio in 2004, half a million votes were tossed out...

Makes me think of all the times we have sent people to other countries to observe elections and make sure there are no irregularities.

Maybe we should pay more attention to our own election irregularities....

The person who authored this should be arrested under suspicion of violation of the Hatch act.

This tactic should be publicized nation wide immediately. There may be some self-respecting members of the GOP out there who would understand how un-American this is.

Lets see,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,150 million pieces of A4 Paper with 2 names in large 24 point fonts.....Obama/Biden and Mc Cain /Palin.....................please circle your pick with pen.

Then bring in outsiders from true democratic countries such as in Europe and let them count and oversee the whole process.

Lots cheaper and more accurate than some electronic machines.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:12 AM on 09/08/2008

The cost of the paper would be about 60,000 dollars..........(figuring I can buy 500 sheets of A4 at Staples for 2 bucks.

Is that all? 60,000 dollars? What have we been wasting billions of dollars on computers for then?

Sadly, it would be tough to get A4 here, as the US uses 8 1/2 x 11 inch as our standard letter size paper. The Republicans would call them "illegal" ballots.

The Republicans tried something similar in Ohio registrations before 2004, ... when they declared the paper stock had to be a certain weight, ... a different weight than what one of the largest registration drives had printed their forms on.

As for election oversight, ... the US refused, I believe, in 2004, ... even in the aftermath of the 2000 Florida debacle. We are hopeless.

This is disgraceful! While Republicans whine about voter fraud--rarely if ever supplying documentation of the same--they perpetrate election fraud!

2000 and 2004 were enough--Stop Republican election fraud in 2008 before it happens!

If you think all that's been done in the past 2 (or more) election cycles is just ensuring that rules are followed, then you haven't been studying Karl Rove very closely!

A friend of mine who lives in NJ just received a letter telling her that she is not a registered voter. This woman is in her mid-fifties, a registered Democrat, and has voted in every primary and general election since she was 18.

She's already registered, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to vote all those years. There's no way they could have expelled her from the rolls . . . not legally, anyway. She's never even gotten a traffic ticket. I wonder how many other people have gotten letters like hers and how many won't be notified of any problem until they reach the voting booth. Seems like the Rethuglicans are pulling this kind of BS in every state they think might be in play for them.

ATTN; To make sure your vote is counted in this election, DON'T TRUST THE DIEBOLD VOTING MACHINE. In the 2000 Election there were back door in the software that allow employees to change votes. There is no proof that any correction has been made. To guarantee there is a paper trail, get
in touch with your Voter's Reg. Office and have an absentee ballot mailed to you. When you get
your form complete it and make a copy for yourself and take your completed form to the Voter's Reg.
Office or Mail it and get a receipt from the post office. Tell your friends and relatives to do the same.
This election is too important to have it stolen from us like the 2000 election. You can go to
www.nightweed.com and click on angry girl to see how the election was stolen. PLEASE!!!! lets
leave a paper trail. I live in Georgia and I will be calling one of our Radio Station to get the word out The CEO of Diebold is a friend of G. B ush and the office is in OHIO. Lets make our vote count.

When these ways of manipulation are accomplishing the stripping of the vote from US citizens then who is behind it and who is to blame and lets go after them now while the clock is not on election day itself! Where these voters and the situations exist the Congress and the Gov and state assemblies must be brought to the understanding that our rights are taken seriously by us. But I plead with every single person to tell everyone you know tomake sure the address they use is their registered to vote address. Take the time to make sure family is registered and the addresses cannot be changed by others. Do what American do when faced with the loss of even more rights when we have some control over this and do the basics and make sure addresses match!!

More of the same old corrupt ways the GOP uses to intimidate the voters. We are getting to look like a third world country rather than a westernized society. How much more of these lies and deceitful behavior must we endure? Say what you will but the GOP is nothing short of a facist regime in power who wishes to continue to stay in power and do everything they can to destroy our Constitution and our civil rights. This needs to be not only stopped but many of the decisions made in the last eight years needs to be reversed. We want our DEMOCRACY back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
