Voter Caging

Truthout:

How many voter-registration mass mailers are "returned to sender" in the run-up to Election Day may determine how many Ohio residents are eligible to vote.

Ohio election officials are sending out a mass mailer stamped "do not forward" to all registered voters today (Sept. 5) with an absentee ballot application and other important notices for Nov. 4.

What's important here is not so much what's going out as what's being returned to sender.

Because they love power, control, and money.

Neither party is honest. That's why they get away with it. The Democrats have been surpressing votes for years.

The Internet and computers are too easily hacked into. I wouldn't want to vote over the Internet.

Where I live we have an all mail-in ballot. We couldn't go to a polling place even if we wanted to, they don't exist. Doing it this way achieves several goals. A) It is a lot less expensive, B) a lot more people participate, (when we went to mail-in, voter participation went up 9%) C). it is a lot harder to cheat and steal an election. When you have machines, all you need to do is get to the guy that services them. With mail-in, you would have to get to several dozen people. Less likely that is going to happen.

That's how we vote in Washington state, too. We receive our ballots in the mail and fill them out at our own dining room table together. It is the only way to ensure we don't see another coup like in 2000.

It would be helpful if someone would request clarification on voting regulations from those battleground states and post them. If we spread the word and be clear in our mission: LANDSLIDE BABY!!!

Well I for one plan on voting this November.

Right after that, I'm going to pee up a rope, because it will be equally as meaningful.

Got fascism?

...and has only become more undemocratic in the interim...anyone who thinks that the Repubs won't use the most conniving of tactics to win are very foolish.

This is evidence that we need a new national voter system that makes the person receiving the most votes the winner. If we could vote over the internet (or at voting stations), it wouldn't matter where you were located. If we can buy shoes on the internet, and the website can tell you if the shoes you want are in your size and in the right color and in stock, why can't we vote over the internet. If they can verify your credit card, why can't they verify your social security number and state/county of residence? This is happening in VA, where is Jim Webb?

I don't know how they run elections in Ohio but in Washington state you can vote at the wrong precinct with a provisional ballot. Corrupt Blackwell is not secretary of state in Ohio anymore, fear not, they won't steal this one.

If you have ever suggested that perhaps Palin needs to be vetted, if you gave credence to the idea that her daughter being pregnant while she touts total abstinence for OTHER unmarried American women, if you maybe thought it would be nice if the media were allowed to ask sarah questions, if you think Russia being close to Alaska might not qualify as foreign policy experience, or if you have ever "quayled" about unequal pay for equal work, then you are not eligible to vote in any state for the upcoming election.

Remember, john mcbush is a hero - he keeps saying so, it must be true. If in your heart you wonder, then you're not eligible to vote in the upcoming election.

I wonder how many votes were caged in 2004...Anyone know?

Kerry lost Ohio in 2004 by less than 119,000 votes. If nearly 600,000 voters are subject to caging in Ohio in 2008... WE WILL NEVER WIN THE STATE OF OHIO!

I am so angry right now...I can't believe things like this is happening in America!!

Of course they're going to try to steal the election -- again. They're very good at it, and they can't win without it.

Please everyone who registered to vote and didn't vote in last presidential election, check with your registrars office to make sure you are still registered. Recently registratered voters make sure you have your voter registration card and verify that the information is correct before your state's deadline. Make sure the address matches your identification, if not put in a change of address now before deadline in your state. (see state laws covering moved by date) If you had a name change, put in for name change, and check before election to make sure change has been recorded. ( if not and you are still registered under old name bring proof with you ie-marriage license) Vote by absentee ballot if possible, especially college students Don't wait until after the deadline to know what your state laws are regarding voting in this election.
