Nearly 600,000 Subject To Possible Voter Caging In Ohio

How many voter-registration mass mailers are "returned to sender" in the run-up to Election Day may determine how many Ohio residents are eligible to vote.

Ohio election officials are sending out a mass mailer stamped "do not forward" to all registered voters today (Sept. 5) with an absentee ballot application and other important notices for Nov. 4.

What's important here is not so much what's going out as what's being returned to sender.

It is better for students to find out now what they need to do to legally vote than to find out to late. If they don't want to register away from their home state, don't get caught short getting an absentee ballot. If they are going to register away from their home state, it may cause issues in other areas. NOW is the time for students to look into this, not November 3rd. Even though some will never believe it, the majority of local election officials are ethical hard working individuals and are there to prevent voter fraud. (No, I am not one but have worked with them over the years.) Having a university(s) in a state, especially a battleground state, and having numerous out of state students vote there can be problematic. Granted, this notice could have been worded better but the point is the students can not take voting in another state for granted. CHECK IT OUT.

Karl Rove and his new U.S. Attorneys will be making some decisions this election cycle by controlling who and who doesn't get counted.

As a Virginian and Obama supporter/volunteer (and over 50 feminist mother) I am so disconcerted by this kind of crap. The Obama people in Va are working so hard to turn this state blue, and it must be succeeding, that's why McCain/Bush's people are here trying to cheat the college kids out of their vote. Interesting it would happen there where there isn't a great deal of Democratic support locally most years! Obama supporting parents of Tech kids need to get on the ball and make sure your child is registered according to the law, or the local interpretation of the law, and all Obama volunteers need to be diligent to protect voting rights of all citizens in VA. Volunteer to staff a voting place that might need your due diligence!

Another way to discriminate against the poor. Poor people move all the time. They don't update their addresses because they never know how long they don't know if they'll be at a particular place for a month or a year.

This is especially interesting due to the high foreclosure and homeless rates. Folks are way overstressed, having to move, losing their home and maybe pets, having credit issues, etc. Many of them just can't cope with one more BS thing to do - especially if they are in survival mode. If they are living in their car, on the street, couch surfing or in a shelter, it may not be just a mouse click away to check their registration.

This is going to take Community Activism! We need to take to the streets and the shelters to make people realize that this IS a survival issue. There are lots of ways to help, not just door to door in the high income area's (a problem in my part of the country) or phone calls to people who have home phones. I am kind of surprised at the lack of volunteer coordination (I live in the red part of a blue state) and hope that it is concentrated in the battleground and red states.

I think that UN monitors is not at all a bad idea since we all know what happened in 2000.

Our WHOLE voting system across America should have been revamped years ago so that things like this don't come up days before an election.
