Steve Schmidt, John McCain's chief campaign strategist, told The Washington Post last week that the news media were "on a mission to destroy" Sarah Palin and that The Times in particular had written "an absolute work of fiction" about how she was vetted before becoming the Republican vice presidential nominee.

Karl Rove, the architect of President Bush's two presidential campaigns and now a commentator for Fox News, said The Times "got it wrong" about the vetting of Palin. Former Senator Fred Thompson accused the newspaper of trying "to drag her down" by focusing improperly on her children

other than the fact that the times wants obama to be president, why is "vetting" all of a sudden important? Who vetted obama?

The media and 18,000,000 voters.
And wouldn't you agree that vetting is important so we don't have a VP who may have abused her power in office (had enough of that with Bush) and whose husband was a member of AIP until 2002. You know what that is right? They are a group who want to secede from the country.
Didn't we fight a war about that?

The reason why the question of how much vetting Palin received is important, is it demonstrates McCain's decision making abilities and his judgement. By choosing a vice-presidential candidate whom he knows little about, whom he met once and liked, he shows America he makes important decisions impulsively with little consideration for fact or reason. Sarah Palin may in fact turn out to be a highly gifted states-person, but that doesn't erase the fact that she chosen because she's for babies guns and Jesus and not for her executive ability.

Seven years of feckless decisions by the Bush administration have left our country in a highly precarious position. We are trillions of dollars in debt to China. We have a devastated military that doesn't have the ability to respond to another major conflict. We have record unemployment and record home foreclosures. We have a reputation as nation that forgoes the rule of law and that will torture our POWs. We have people in near permanent positions of power in our justice department who's only qualifications are that they are pro babies guns and Jesus.

The situation in this country is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. So the real question isn't whether or not Palin is qualified, its whether the person who is running for president -John McCain- has the abilities to make well considered decisions to pull us out of this mess.

Add CNN to the list. They just did a segment on Palin's Wassila Church and used some of the clips that keep getting scrubbed from the web.

It scares me to think of Sarah Palin possibly being a Vice President and with that the possibility of being our President! Not that George Bush is any better.

However, this woman's narrow minded ridged views, who received her first passport in 2007, no matter how polished her speeches might be is in No Way Qualified to be in White House.

Thank God the New York times is reporting truths about Sarah Palin instead of being marketed and railroaded through by Republican Corporate interest. The blatant lies that are being put forth on the selling of her to the American Public. This tells you a great deal about who John McCain has become and his ability to make decision.

The Times has been running a puff piece on page 1 every day about Palin's family. These articles have no relevance on the simple truth, which is that she is totally and utterly incapable of being president.

What judgment has she shown? What issue has she ever been right about? Do we really need another chief executive who speaks to God from the oval office?

george bush in drag is not what this country needs after 8 years suffering and deteriorating at the hands of the real thing.

I really don't care about P@lin's family. What I do care about is why the main stream media has refused to call her out as well as R u d y and everyone else at the R N C who looked in the cameras and /ied to the @merican people about when they said 0ba-ma has NO record in either senate of authoring and legislation and that he has never worked across the aisle to get anything done. The M S M is proving itself to be an arm of the re-pugs. Where is the outrage.

The GOP is blaming the press for doing their job in uncovering Palin's past. If it turns out they are all lies and exaggerations and it Does destroy her like the GOP says the media is trying to do, then its not the medias fault that they (GOP) made a poor decision with no significant vetting.

They certainly cannot blame anyone for discovering falsifications, fraud, personality traits, and truths about her record and past, and then showing everyone. THey should be thanking the media.
If their goal is to put a qualified, just, wise, clean, non criminal person desirous of good for the people into the white house as VP and Pres, then they should Thank the media if they uncover something scary about any of them before the election and making americans vote on false Bios of any of these candidates.

I just suspect they will find far more bad things about the Republicans than dems because if you notice in the last 20 yrs of elections, the GOP are far nastier, mean, stoop-to-lowest standards, characters than the dems, which translates directly into "me first, criminals". Thats not Christian values at all.

Do your Job media and dig up truths and report them.

Sarah Palin is bad news. She does not know anything about John McCain and yet how can she make a speech praising him as if she knows everything about him. This is her deception. She is a attention seeker. Her policies will be likewise. US does not need a beauty queen. US needs a beautiful soul to rescue the sinking country. I think McCain himself is very weak person. Within hours he changed his mind about his own selection of vice president, and after a bit of pressure, he caved in and went for Palin. This man will sink the United States. He will be a puppet to powerful groups rahter than a courageous leader. He is NOT hisown man as we are being told again and again. His actions speak for themselves. Biden is a lot better than both Palin and weak McCain.

FDR was 68 when he died in office and Harry S Truman became president. McCain is four years older and not in the best of health. It's no coincidence that Palin referred to Truman in her speech. What else do you think the neocons are hoping for?
Jon Stewart aired a snippet of a Palin interview in March 2008 in which she criticized Hillary Clinton's "whine" about sexist criticism and said that if you are a woman, don't complain about being criticized more, work harder. OK, Sarah. Now's your chance to work harder than you did in your six years of trying to earn your bachelor's degree. Be a quick study of foreign affairs. Don't whine. And work harder.

Ully: I know it's fashionable for people to think it's OK to post their opinions with tons of misspellings, as if they were text messages, but it undermines your argument. It makes you seem unintelligent and gives fuel to the opinion that the majority of the GOP's supporters are ill-educated. Thanks for your post! Makes total sense to me!

Blaming the press was a strategy employed by Nixon and used again by GHW Bush.
Seems like the McCain camp are now throwing everything and anything

Why doesn't the Press recall John McCain giving the Vietnamese any information they wanted within 4 days of his being captured?

John McCain told of Troop movements etc... so that he could get a cushy number - he had a table - he had chairs - he made 30 propaganda recording for the Enemy!

Get it - he broke - he gave information - he betrayed US troops!

You want that for President? I Don't

The McCain camp wants to get their lies straight. Like criminals they need to form a cover story that sounds real and say it all together. If they let Palin speak now you might hear something McCain/Rove do not want you to hear. I sincerely believe Palin is a Rove plant to be in the McCain administration to continue Bush/Cheney policies.
