Obama Camp: 49,000 New Voters In Virginia

This is why the work on the ground in terms of registration is so important: in August alone, the Obama campaign registered 49,000 new voters in Virginia:

State election officials told the campaign Friday that 49,000 new voters signed up in August, a sharp increase from the 36,500 who signed up in July and the 28,000 who registered in June.

The goal of the Obama campaign was 150,000 total by the time the October 5th deadline rolls around, which leaves one month to get the remaining 36,500. Hats off to all VA Democrats who must have been working so hard on this.

Text messaging and facebook could be two examples. The Obama campaign is highly tech-saavy and has multiple ways of reaching out to young people.

E.J. Dionne and some others have noted that this trend has turned around. A lot more young people turned out to vote in 2006, and look what happened - we took back Congress. This year, the White House!

The new voters in VA and other place are a clear indicator that Obama the community organizer gets it: change is about the people and it from the bottom up.

Obama is a smart politician who the MSM and the republicans continues to underestimate. He knows how to improvise, plot and win.

Exactly. His opponents underestimation of him works to his advantage. If they knew what to do against him, they (more specifically McCain) would work in a proactive manner, not reactive.

Hillary thought Obama was hot air (i.e. lofty speeches, no substance, naive) and look what happened- she lost the race (arguably on Feb. 5).

Come to think of it, the republicans did the same thing to Obama back in Illinois. They put in a right-wing opponent (Alan Keys) at the last minute and Obama railroaded him in a landslide.

One really great (and smart) thing that they are doing, is when they register voters they are getting cell phone numbers and email addresses. Everyone knows that these younger people need to be prompted...so when you get the text message on November 4th reminding you to vote...it will definitely make a difference. It worked during the primaries...as can be seen from the RECORD turnout by democrats all over the country.

While the MSM is in love with Palin and the Neocons have found what they perceive as "their" Obama, I do believe that is what is tightening up this race. I do think Palin has peaked an it can only be downward now. How down, I don't know. I will never feel so confident to think O is a shoe-in (although I do hope so). Yet, I have been wondering for a very very long time now if this new idea of Obama's, to register new voters, is gonna give him a much much wider victory than the media is even talking about. Look at the huge huge amount of new registered voters in many of the states, that have been recruited. Sure, we don't know how many will actually vote, but I think the possibility IS there for at least a "minor" landslide, if not major landslie, on Obama's part. No one in the MSM seems to be talking much about this. Then again, the MSM has never been on Obama's side.
