AFP:

HILLA, Iraq - The central Iraqi province of Babel went on alert on Monday after four people were killed by cholera and 200 others were suspected of suffering from the disease, local officials told AFP.

"The laboratory reports from Babel health department indicate there are 200 cases of suspected cholera, vomiting and diarrhoea in the province," the provincial council said.

It said the council head, Mohammed al-Masoodi, has ordered the water, electricity and health departments to go on alert in an effort to stop the spread of the disease.

I wonder if any of our billions in reconstruction money ever went to establish safe drinking water systems. I do some work with the American Chemistry Council and it's actually really easy to make water safe. In the U.S., we've been chlorinating our drinking water for 100 years. They could easily do this in Iraq.

We would give them clean water but they hate our freedom.

We have been there for 5 years and we still can't give them clean water? Pathetic! I bet there is an abundance of clean water in the "Green Zone"

Just shows you have never stepped out of this country!! You probably cannot even show where Iraq is in a map!! Most developing countries cannot provide clean drinking water to it's citizens. Heck you have to buy bottled drinking water even in France. It is funny to see H u f f latch on to stories like these after the surge dramatically reduced violence and deprived them of their headline stories!!
