The McCain campaign is already out with its second Sarah Palin-related campaign ad, a 30-second spot designed to grab the mantle of change from Barack Obama but one that contains some overstated claims.

Titled "Original Mavericks," the ad states that Palin stopped the Bridge to Nowhere -- when, in fact, she favored the project before souring it when it became a national issue. The spot also says Palin "took on big oil," without mentioning that part of the confrontation with the oil industry included levying a windfall profits tax, a policy position that McCain and his advisers have criticized harshly at times.

On a more macro level, the new advertisement continues the McCain campaign's push the ticket's maverick image. While it once seemed far fetched that the Arizona Republican and his running mate could rip the anti-Washington position from Barack Obama's grasp, they clearly are trying and may end up successful -- the spot ends with the phrase: "Real Change."

The ad will air on national cable and in key states.

Here's the script:

The original mavericks.
He fights pork barrel spending.
She stopped the Bridge to Nowhere.
He took on the drug industry.
She took on big oil.
He battled Republicans and reformed Washington.
She battled Republicans and reformed Alaska.
They'll make history. They'll change Washington.
McCain. Palin.
Real change.

UPDATE: The Obama campaign comes back hard, calling the spot a "lie."

"Despite being discredited over and over again by numerous news organizations, the McCain campaign continues to repeat the lie that Sarah Palin stopped the Bridge to Nowhere. John McCain has voted with George Bush 90% of the time and he and Sarah Palin will continue Bush's economic policies, his health care policy, his education policy, his energy policy, and his foreign policy. McCain and Palin will say or do anything to make people believe that they will change something besides the person sitting in the Oval Office. That's the kind of politics people are tired of, and it's anything but change," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Is this the election where we once and for all find out just how dumb we are? I am afraid, very afraid its is. McCain-Palin would defeat Jesus if he was running. Imagine the "swift boating" there.

I tell my husband that all the time. If Jesus were on this earth today, The Christian right would not support him. He, during his time, was for change. He went against the traditional Pharisaic views. And for that he was crucified.

Ahem, Sen. McCain, Gov. Palin...? Ron Paul would like a word with you...

Just saw some of the new ad on TV and as a selling tool it is close to perfect; it will be very effective with both the undecided and know-nothing voters. The repubs have completely stolen and usurped BHO’S message of change and are on the offensive now. I have to hand it to them; they have an awesome and aggressive P.R. and propaganda operation; why don’t we have the same by now? Our commercials and info spots are Vanilla ice cream. Doesn't anyone feel the fire and can't they get that into an ad or two?

The Democrats need to COME OUT OF THAT DEER-IN-THE-HEADLIGHTS TRANCE TODAY and recover lost ground or this race will turn into a landslide. Four more years of the same and worse. They need to bring in Jim Carville right away. Apparently he is the only one in the party who is tough enough and knows how to deal with the NeoCons, and he is definitely the best at it.

Why is the campaign rolling over and playing dead? Because Palin is a woman or because she is a pitbull? Believe me, and it should have been obvious by now, Middle America wants a fighter, or at least someone who acts like one, as their President. I’m beginning to think that most of the time Progressives are their own worst enemies.

WE MUST NOT TOLERATE INTOLERANCE

Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act.

53 Republican Senators plus one Democrat - AYE

44 Democrats no Republicans - NAY

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, also known as the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Financial Services Modernization Act, Pub. L. No. 106-102, 113 Stat. 1338 (November 12, 1999), is an Act of the United States Congress which repealed the Glass-Steagall Act, opening up competition among banks, securities companies and insurance companies. The Glass-Steagall Act prohibited a bank from offering investment, commercial banking, and insurance services.

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) allowed commercial and investment banks to consolidate. For example, Citibank merged with Travelers Group, an insurance company, and in 1998 formed the conglomerate Citigroup, a corporation combining banking and insurance underwriting services. Other major mergers in the financial sector had already taken place such as the Smith-Barney, Shearson, Primerica and Travelers Insurance Corporation combination in the mid-1990s. This combination, announced in 1993 and finalized in 1994, would have violated the Glass-Steagall Act and the Bank Holding Acts by combining insurance and securities companies, if not for a temporary waiver process . The law was passed to legalize these mergers on a permanent basis.

"John McCain voted FOR the bank laws that led to the current credit crisis. John Mccain's economic advisor WROTE the law. 53 Republicans voted YES to the law. When you're in danger of losing your house, can you take a chance on more of the same from those who wrecked out economy?"

Well, they still aren't letting Palin out on her own. Probably worried about the difference in the size of the crowds between McCain, (200 - 300) and Palin, (who knows? she hasn't been out there yet, though probably a lot more than McCain).

And McCain is still twisting his wedding band while he stands next to her.

Someone needs to get a psychologist to explain while he feels the need to do that while he is standing next to her.

Needs to remind self of his marital standing and thinking "man if I could have hooked up with her, think where we would be today."

THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN NEEDS HAS TO PRENSENT THEMSELVES AS THE ONLY CHOICE FOR ALL VOTERS WHO WANT REAL CHANGE IN THIS COUNTRY IN ORDER TO TACKLE THE PROBLEMS FACING OUR NATION THAT THE CURRENT AND PAST REPUBLICAN ESTABLISHMENT HAS CREATED.

GET IT DONE DELIBERATE, LOUD, AND BOLD !!! NOT CALM, FUZZY, AND SOFT !!! The best part of the Obama acceptance speech was the directness of the simple statement “ENOUGH” !!!

CLOSE YOUR FIST AND HIT THEM BACK HARD SO THEY HAVE THE TASTE OF BLOOD IN THEIR MOUTHS, STOP LIGHTLY SLAPPING THEM LIKE A BUNCH OF SISSY’s !!!

I feel at times Obama has been too easy on these Repubs. He's more of a Christian than McCain, Palin and Dobson combined. Sometimes it's good to walk away. But if you have been hit, you need to strike back to defend yourself.

ConCreteHead,

I don't think the campaign is listening to us out here in the real world. It's been what, nine days or so since that brutal attack on O, and they get a POWDER PUFF THROWN BACK, with compliments on a job well done.

Good grief have all the hundreds of thousands of supporters and millions of voters just wasted their time and effort? Are we in for 4-8 more years of the last 8? America will not survive as we knew it.

For some reason I can't get my blogs that are similar to yours in nature past the CENSORISTAS here, so keep up the good work. Perhaps someone will hear.

The new "ORIGINAL MAVERICKS" add is sharp, stern, and straight forward on message (full of lies). The add is in your face and gives the appearance of those two GOP puppets to be the toughest cowboys since the "WILD BUNCH". In every photo of them in the they look pissed off and ready to do battle for the American people. The Obama campaign has to get their S*@T together on this because the McSame/P’h’alin campaign is eating them alive with this add (factual or not). I know people that would not have voted for McSame two months ago and are now donating to the campaign and putting out yard signs because of his newly manufactured reputation and female Cheney running mate that has brought so much experience to the ticket (vomit).

They are doing what the republicans have done since 2000. They have no shame (nor should OBAMA) in looking and appearing tough or in using FRANK LUNTZ language in crafting a bogus message.

After supporting a multi-trillion dollar bailout of Fanny and Freddy, McCain's idea of change is to privatize social security.

I kinda liked the term"sidekick" to GWB used during the Democratic convention. I think it should be used more - 'till it sticks. It should be the new label for the Palin/McSame ticket. A couple of sidekicks rather than "me too I'm for change".

At a time when people are worried about the economy and National Guard units are being deployed abroad for the second or third time, do voters really care about so-called reform in Washington? For swing voters in Ohio or Pennsylvania, which is more important--having a job next year (and relatives who haven't been blown up by roadside bombs), or having a president who opposes earmarks?

I doubt if the McCain-Palin "maverick" message is going to carry much weight with voters who are up for grabs in this election. Wrong message, wrong time.

Only McCain is enough of a maverick to stand up to John McCain. John McCain thought passing tax cuts in a time of war was amistake, until John McCain had the guts to call him out on it. John McCain's stance on immigration was far out of lock step with the republican majority, unitl John McCain faced him down and said "Enough!" Who better to stand up to the reckless ideas of John McCain than the person who knows him best? John McCain. Only he can protect us from his own ideas.

Just watched McCain speech being compared to Bush's speech in 2000 it was basically the same speech so much for change knew it was a lie anyway, McCain and Palin are jokes. I am just stunned that the Republicans are getting a pass on all the lying by the Obama camp. Come on Obama fight back, please!
