The McCain campaign is already out with its second Sarah Palin-related campaign ad, a 30-second spot designed to grab the mantle of change from Barack Obama but one that contains some overstated claims.

Titled "Original Mavericks," the ad states that Palin stopped the Bridge to Nowhere -- when, in fact, she favored the project before souring it when it became a national issue. The spot also says Palin "took on big oil," without mentioning that part of the confrontation with the oil industry included levying a windfall profits tax, a policy position that McCain and his advisers have criticized harshly at times.

On a more macro level, the new advertisement continues the McCain campaign's push the ticket's maverick image. While it once seemed far fetched that the Arizona Republican and his running mate could rip the anti-Washington position from Barack Obama's grasp, they clearly are trying and may end up successful -- the spot ends with the phrase: "Real Change."

The ad will air on national cable and in key states.

Here's the script:

The original mavericks.
He fights pork barrel spending.
She stopped the Bridge to Nowhere.
He took on the drug industry.
She took on big oil.
He battled Republicans and reformed Washington.
She battled Republicans and reformed Alaska.
They'll make history. They'll change Washington.
McCain. Palin.
Real change.

UPDATE: The Obama campaign comes back hard, calling the spot a "lie."

"Despite being discredited over and over again by numerous news organizations, the McCain campaign continues to repeat the lie that Sarah Palin stopped the Bridge to Nowhere. John McCain has voted with George Bush 90% of the time and he and Sarah Palin will continue Bush's economic policies, his health care policy, his education policy, his energy policy, and his foreign policy. McCain and Palin will say or do anything to make people believe that they will change something besides the person sitting in the Oval Office. That's the kind of politics people are tired of, and it's anything but change," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

I completely agree with you! If the Democrats lose in Nov., the campaign will have nothing but themselves to blame. We need to come out swinging. I am starting to feel a little bit nervous and discouraged! The surrogates should be out flooding the airwaves with terse attacks against McCain/Palin. FLOODING!!

The gaping hole in the Obama campaign has always been the inability to sublimate its disdain for "the Clintons." Handed the opening, Palin was the perfect pick for McCain to drive a truck through it.

Yes, what planet has TroubleNYC been living on? The country and the world are up the creek if Palin wins. But the feminists will be absolutely destroyed once and for all by a Palin victory. Down syndrome wins a majority vote in this country, among WOMEN, over a woman's right to abort such a child. Palin is the woman from Hell for the feminists: a combination of the greatest glass ceiling shattering in the history of American women (with her governorship, she easily outranks Geraldine Ferraro in the power sweepstakes) with the greatest, most lethal opponent of abortion rights in American political history. Palin is probably already the most popular woman in America, easily outdistancing Hillary already, not to mention fading Oprah (so yesterday; a "loser" like her boy Obambi). If she's elected this year, she's a cinch to run for president in '12, and annihilate Hillary Clinton once and for all if she does. The real Annie Oakley outgunning the Wellesley liberal who only played Annie Oakley on TV to con the rubes. If feminists don't find a way to drive a stake through Palin's heart right now, they are truly finished in America, since Palin reduces feminism entirely to a woman's right to any job there is, a position all American women can support. Too bad the majority of women vote with Palin on everything ELSE in the feminist's agenda, starting with right to choose.

Having a Downs baby was "her choice". Now, while she parades the baby on ads to illustrate how "principled" she is, the taxpayers get to pay to meet all those "special needs".

You know everyone complaining about not seeing Obama on ads maybe we should start pitching in more. If we don't do everything we can it will be our own faults if jerk face McCain wins. Money, time, and phones, people that's how you win. If you can't send much send a little, I know it's tough right now heck I live on disability, but I still donate. We know Obama will be the right president, but if we don't get off our butts will be stuck with idoit head and his new girlfriend. If you can't stand them as much as you say then we all have to step up. I honestly don't think we can afford 4 more years of the republican policies. This country will fail if we elect McCain.

I like the fact that the O b a m a camp is not moved by this pick. They aren't panicking and going on the attack. I like that they get the info, wait, watch, listen, evaluate and THEN respond. This is why they will be so effective governing.

Wrong Panic can also cause end to all initiatives. Have you ever seen a frightened prey just before it is attac ked? You don't see it doing much.

I'm all for a reasoned response, but I fear Obama is missing the window durring which he could affect public perception. He's giving Republicans time to define her, when he should be defining her himself.

She a small-town politician who thinks nothing of abusing her office for personal vendettas; firing or attempting to fire many people who she personally doesn't like. But when the Republicans are done, she'll be a crusading hero. Obama is just letting it happen.

Well Mavericks????
I'm reading some interesting stuff by the LA Progressive re: Palin-
"When Obama won the nomination Palin said “So Sambo beat the bitch!”
This is how Sarah Palin described Barack Obama’s win over Hillary Clinton to political colleagues in a restaurant a few days after Obama locked up the Democratic Party presidential nomination."
Wait- it gets better- LA Progressive continues to report-
"people who know her say she refers regularly to Alaska’s Aboriginal people as “Arctic Arabs”
Read this article! really good!
Mavericks! what a joke!
Yeah, same old racists opinions ruining this country, and lying for everything their worth
to keep and own us all-

As a mother that had a child with special needs, If Palin's actions don't show that she is a 'USER', I don't know what does. I would NEVER, in a million years, subject my child to all the magazine covers and NOW THE ADS???

It amazes me the numbers of women who think Palin is a model mother. She is using a down's syndrome baby over and over to feed her ego and ambition. There IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE!

Look people, stop whinning and complaining. We all know that Obama is not going to win as much as we want him to. The white people including the MSM is saying how dare an ancestor of SLAVES think that he can come and govern us. AMERICA will NEVER vote for a BLACK man to become president even after knowing him for 18 months. However they will vote for SARAH PALIN because she is a WHITE woman just like them even though she has no experience and has only known her for 11 DAYS.

Is this true???? Lawd I'm going to puke! From Politico...

Gallup, polling for USA Today, now has McCain up over Obama, 50-46, in a survey of registered voters taken over the weekend. Among likely voters, McCain's lead is even larger, 54-44.

These numbers could well subside after the glow of St. Paul wears off.

But one thing that won't likely change is the Palin-powered elimination of the GOP's enthusiasm gap.

Per Gallup, Republicans surveyed said that, by a margin of 47-39, they were less enthusiastic than usual about voting. After the convention and selection of Palin, 60% now say they're more enthusiastic and just 24% say they're less so.

I like Michael Moore's view on polls. On Larry King last week he talked about how he doesn't take them seriously. He thinks the support for Obama is much higher, just not reflected as such in polls.

This morning I heard someone on cable say that the Gallup poll was like an EKG, going up and down daily.

Why don't you stop panicking all over the place and give the O team some credit? Why don't you recognize what they have accomplished up to now? Why don't you stop working yourself into a tizzy and getting your blood pressure up and do something useful like go to his website and make some calls, register some voters, get involved in local groups.

HE WILL RESPOND SOON. Dang y'all have the patience of a fly.

That's because the Mc campaign would be whining and crying that they are being picked on!! We all know and see that the media has ALWAYS been BIASED FOR MC. NO OTHER CANDIDATE WOULD BE ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH AS MUCH AS THEY HAVE!!! NO OTHER CANDIDATE WOULD BE ALLOWED TO NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS BECAUSE THEY ARE BEING TUTORED!!! IF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE THAT STUPID TO ELECT THIS PAIR OF CRYBABIES, THEN THEY DESERVE ANOTHER 4 YEARS OF THE COUNTRY GOING DOWN THE TOILET. ADD TO THAT WARS AND MORE WARS FROM THE WARMONGERS!!

The Mccain camp knew by picking a woman they would be tying Obama's hands behind his back. Anything he does will be thrown out as being sexist. He is already being blamed for the bloggers opinions. The man has been on the campaign trail for 18 months. He has shown america what hope looks like--yet, they still say we don't really know him. Come along a white woman who doesn't even want to be a part of this country --yes, there is solid proof that she and her husband supported a group that wants to seperate from the United States--and after 3 days she is just what this country needs. Give me a break. Obama could do back flips and the 'racist' americans will still find an excuse to question his ability simply because they do not want a man of color in the white house. i have a question; if john mccain had picked a black woman to be vp would his rating have jumped? I think not.

Questions for SOMEONE to ask Palin - Obama, Biden, Gibson please step up:
a) Can you explain what makes you the most qualified candidate to be the next POTUS if John McCain has a heart attack on DAY TWO?
b) Why do you think "your running mate" McCain is putting his country first by selecting you as his VP when by all accounts his first choice was Lieberman - which would indeed have confirmed his bipartisn/ change/maverick credentials?
c) How can you reconcile being a ticket of "change" when you are in lock step ith everything that Bushand his supporters applauded - like overturning Roe v. Wade, supporting creationism, denying global warming, opposing green measures, tax breaks for the rich and large companies...to name but a few?
d) How can you on the one hand say you want to reach across party lines and even whilst say that, spew out lies and abuse, sarcasm and ridicule on the Dem candidates?
e) How do you explain saying that you will support more funding for special needs children and yet you have consistenlty cut funindg for the same group whilst in "power" in Alaska?
f) since you have raised awareness of Special Needs children in your acceptance speech, can you tell us whether you believe that such children are more advantaged or less advantaged by additional care outside the family unit when the parents are absent?
Any more suggestions, post here!
