Back in May, NewsCorp CEO Rupert Murdoch admitted that he had "played a role" in the decision of the New York Post (which he owns) to endorse Barack Obama over home state Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary.

So what is one to presume now that today's Post features an "enthusiastic" endorsement urging "the election of Sen. John S. McCain as the 44th president of the United States."

Here's a bit from the editorial:

McCain has been in Washington for many years now, but he is not of Washington. He knows where the levers of power are located - and how to manipulate them - but he is not controlled by them.

McCain's selection of the charming, but rock-solid, outsider Sarah Palin as his running mate underscores the point.

Neither plays well with others.

And this is an unalloyed asset at a time when special interests - lobbyists, lawyers and organized labor chief among them - wield enormous influence in the nation's capital.

Obama and Sen. Joseph Biden, on the other hand, are leaders of "a party constructed of special interests - public-employee unionists in particular," the editorial states. Of course, the Post adds, "None of this implies an iota of disrespect toward Obama."

murdoch knows mccain will not win, or at least, is very unlikely to win. its pretty much clear that fox news and that whole demographic is no longer relevant to the usa. i mean, look where they have put us on the global stage? so why not throw it all into the flame? the post included. m!

here's the interesting interview of murdoch by vanityfair. they do a good job humanizing him: http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2008/10/wolff200810?printable=true&currentPage=all

Its all, about selling papers. The New York post is like the "The Enquirer".They want to keep certain readers despite the outcome of the election. So that they can say, in December, "see - at least we endorsed McCain/Palin so keep reading us."

i don't understand why it is okay for repubs to be openly partisan as journalists, but not okay when they show any inclination toward rationality, reason, democracy... let alone "a liberal bias"...

wait a minute, yes i do, it is because the GOP owns the media...

Yep, I looked up every CEO of every major media company in the USA. Time Warner, General Electric, CBS Enterprises, all Republican. Only Disney I could not find CEO affilation.

Murdoch was very canny. Clearly he figured that Clinton could beat McCain, so he threw the post behind Obama. Mission accomplished there, he now endorses McCain. The question is, as the post's endorsement will carry little weight with the New York electorate, will people elsewhere in the country be impressed by the mere sound of the "New York" Post without understanding what kind of a paper - elitist in absolutely the worst sense! - the name signifies.

Obama fascinates Murdoch according to a Harpers article. Murdoch is an Australian business man with one mission in life, to stir the political pot that sells his newspapers that makes him $$$$$$$$$$!

Throw Murdoch in jail for conspiring with the Bush administration to put out their propaganda. Propaganda is a crime. Boycott all of Fox's sponsors. Send those companies letters of your decision not to support their products if they are ever to put another commercial or advert on Fox or in the Washington Post.

Rupert Murdoch is not an american, he is a foreign media business man. His periodicals have always been biased and factually challenged.
