New York Post Endorses McCain: What Role Did Murdoch Play?

Back in May, NewsCorp CEO Rupert Murdoch admitted that he had "played a role" in the decision of the New York Post (which he owns) to endorse Barack Obama over home state Senator Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary.

So what is one to presume now that today's Post features an "enthusiastic" endorsement urging "the election of Sen. John S. McCain as the 44th president of the United States."

Here's a bit from the editorial:

McCain has been in Washington for many years now, but he is not of Washington. He knows where the levers of power are located - and how to manipulate them - but he is not controlled by them.

McCain's selection of the charming, but rock-solid, outsider Sarah Palin as his running mate underscores the point.

Neither plays well with others.

And this is an unalloyed asset at a time when special interests - lobbyists, lawyers and organized labor chief among them - wield enormous influence in the nation's capital.

Obama and Sen. Joseph Biden, on the other hand, are leaders of "a party constructed of special interests - public-employee unionists in particular," the editorial states. Of course, the Post adds, "None of this implies an iota of disrespect toward Obama."

The mainstream media in the United States of America is a damn joke. After a weekend spent at home in bed watching every bit of news programming I could on all the major networks, I was left with the conclusion that all the mainstream media is doing is (i) adopting McCain Campaign talking points as news soundbytes (ii) focusing excessively on McCain's status as a War Hero with endless details and interviews of friends solidifying that position and (iii) focusing to a great degree on illustrating to all viewers who OBAMA is so "different" than many Americans. The mainstream media will not highlight that Governor Sarah Palin's views are so far outside of mainstream women and an afront to the middle class in this country. If McCain and Palin land in the White House, it will be the first time that I seriously consider leaving the United States of America for another country.

This election will be decided by the media and it's not reporting the facts and instead helping to kill people hope, dreams, needs and voice. If Obama win this it will be a miracle for sure. I will do my part but have to admit, how powerless one can feel when your life is controlled by corporate America and the rethugs.

I don't see that picture of a Dem landslide. We are told the Dems outnumber the Repubs this election cycle. We do also know that the Independents are the ones that would decide the election and I thought the Independents consider the real issues at stake, but unfortunately the polling does not support this theory. If you factor in the 6-8% of the undecided, then you should know what is coming (unless those undecided are so undecided that they do not go to the polls). A case in point is the Dem primary in PA, where the polls showed an 8-10% undecided. However the results indicated that the undecided just didn't want to share their real true choice with the rest of America. ......Why? Your guess is good as mine.

I don't think the majority of the people who claim they are independent are really independents. They are just looking for a reason not to vote for BO. I think there are more underlining issues with the American people than the real issues, other than that, the choice in this election is a no brainer.
