I Like ItI Don’t Like It

"In a weekend interview, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice passed up an opportunity to defend Sarah Palin from allegations that she does not have the foreign policy experience to be vice president," ABC News reports.

In a less-than-hearty endorsement, Rice declined to say anything more positive about Palin than "she gave a terrific speech" and "she's a governor of a state here in the United States" during her interview with Zain Verjee of CNN.

Asked point-blank if Palin has enough experience, Rice said, "These are decisions that Senator McCain has made. I have great confidence in him." Confidence in Palin? Rice didn't say.

Rice added: "I'm not going to get involved in this political campaign. As Secretary of State, I don't do that. But I thought her speech was wonderful."

Via ThinkProgress, here's the video:

As TP notes, "By comparison, Rice responded to Sen. Barack Obama's pick of Sen. Joe Biden as his running mate last month by saying that 'Biden is obviously a very fine statesman.'"

So why is it that we already know that Condi and Powell are behind Barack? As if most of the intelligent readers on here don't know what you mean by that. I suppose you hunt, think we are trying to take your guns from you, oppose abortion and love creationism taught in schools. ( Just a few of the doozies you winners choose to justify your voting for the REPUGNANTS and their leaders).

McCain couldn't pick Condi Rice. Little known fact: she's pro-choice.

Right choice! Eight is enough! Palin is an extremist: she forces mothers to keep her rapist's baby. There must be choice and choice doesn't mean abortion. Let's women decide what they want for themselves.

I don't think so. Or maybe I'm being too hopeful. Seems to me that Condi (who is clearly the stand out in terms of intelligence in that bunch) has soured on the whole Bush presidency. She has to see how playing the "good soldier" has left her rep in tatters. Unlike Cheney, Rummy etc, she is still relatively young and would like to re-enter society with some integrity intact.

I dunno. I continue to be amazed that this woman from East Undershirt who embraces creationism could be our VP. I'm glad I don't travel a lot overseas anymore, it's tough to see the contempt in people's faces. W and now this? Are we to remain awash in mediocrity? Yikes.

Interesting little tidbit on Good Morning America this morning. They had an interview with 4 of Sarah Palin's female friends from Alaska who call themselves the "Elite 5" (no kidding--makes you wonder). Anyway all four were asked who they were going to vote for and only one of them (the one who looks most like an anti-depressant-fueled cross between Laura Bush and Cindy McCain) confirmed that she planned to vote for McCain. Two of them claimed to be still "undecided" and the the third said that her vote was personal and between her and the ballot box (ie. she's probably voting for Obama). Now folks, if her closest friends aren't even 100% sure (hell, they're not even 25% sure) that they'll vote for her, WHY SHOULD WE? Maybe they know something about her temperament that we should know. Maybe how too much power goes to her head. I don't know, but what I do know one thing. After that less than sweeping endorsement, I know I would love to be a fly on the wall at the ladies' next cooking exchange get-together.

Maybe Condi knows something these other "Elitist" know.

McCain has a tember problem. He does not forgive! I shudder what would happen should such a man get to the White House. At this very moment, McCain, Karl Rove and Co. are trying to intimidate the media into silence. They just played their hand on MSNBC, a corporate-oriented media outlet. It is a disgrace that MSNBC, at the behest of Republican operators, are trying to silence progressive voices in its shows. McCain, Karl Rove and Co. are out to destroy free speech and progressive media voices in this country. Any major media that dares to question McCain’s judgement in selecting Sarah Palin as his runing mate gets in their black list. They have now succeeded in getting Chris Matthew and Keith Olberman ousted from their archor chair of political coverage on MSNBC—an action WE ARE AND SHOULD ALL LOUDLY PROTEST for its implications for a free press. It is alright for McCain, Karl Rove and Co. that corporate media allows Tom Brokow, Joe Scarborough, Bill O’Reiley, and Lou Dobbs to continue their daily, trident assaults on Democrats and progressive ideas in their shows. In the final analysis, a free press is the sentinel of freedom. Republicans want only their voices to be heard; they are determined to silence progressive voices. We should all be protesting to the corporate media headquarters and letting our voices be heard there and in public discuss! This intimidation and bias should not be allowed to stand! The media is our last best hope.

Obviously Condi was way more qualified to be VP than Palin and everyone knows it. Noone could arge that Condi doesn't have foreign policy experience and is not intelligent. That's why she can't give Palin a ringing endorsement. After all, the Republicans are scraping the bottom of the barrel with their VP pick. I suspect Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison feels the same way.

Obama is on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has a minor in Foreign Relations from Columbia University, has traveled extensively throughout his entire life, and has had several one-on-one meetings with world leaderrs. He also has the respect of world leaders. Not to mention that Biden has extensive foreign relations experience and even chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

But since this article is about PALIN, she has no foreign relations experience and only received a passport for the first time last year. At a time when we are at war with Iraq and Afghanistan, we frankly don't have time for on-the-job training.

"And in Israel, President Shimon Peres proclaimed “high regard” for Obama and his belief that “the future belongs to the young,” a point that would seem to exclude 71-year-old Republican nominee John McCain."

toast.

~~~
7/25/08
With barely disguised ardor, Barack Obama’s potential colleagues on the international stage embraced him this week with a gusto that seemed out of place in the staid world of diplomacy.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy deemed Obama “my pal,” and boasted to a reporter that he always believed the Illinois senator would beat Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In Jordan, meanwhile, King Abdullah II showed off his fast car to Obama, personally speeding him to the airport from behind the wheel of a Mercedes.
And in Israel, President Shimon Peres proclaimed “high regard” for Obama and his belief that “the future belongs to the young,” a point that would seem to exclude 71-year-old Republican nominee John McCain.
The French, like many in Europe, have gravitated toward Obama because he represents what they view as the cleanest break from President Bush’s presidency, the Iraq war and the transatlantic split caused by the invasion. Such reasons were cited repeatedly by those who assembled in Berlin for his speech Wednesday, an event larger than any he has held in the United States.
President Bush is doing everything Senator Obama has suggested, ie negotiating with our enemies, (Libya), providing a timetable for withdrawal. Sending more brigades into Afghanistan. Senator Obam is the consultant for the Republican Party.Does he need more foreign policy experience?
"C. Rice, Isn't it s shame you can't say what you really think???"
But to anyone with 1/2 a brain she did exactly that. But yes it is sad that in bush's regime pure truth would result in dismissal.
I do not think these jokers have 1/2 a chance of winning a fair election, but I am afraid we have less than half a chance of having one - even huffpo is finally picking up the 6ook voter caging madness potential in Ohio.
Our only chance is to such a massive turnout for O. that the dems can't steal it - and then pres. O better head for the bunker with 4 years of already poison-tested food.
The more change esp. to energy policy he represents - the more the forces of greed and inertia will refuse to let him be pres.
just my considered opinion.
and condi thanks for stopping war with iran so far and sharing on Sarah 'clueless' Palin
start a campaign to have people wear a blue shirt to the polls or some other outwardly visible sign of support. imagine if polls across the country were swamped with blue-shirted voters, and then the network news tried to tell us that mccain was leading...
I wonder how Condoleezza Rice feels about being passed over for VP and having it given to the Sarah Palin? Regardless of all her education and experience, I don’t believe Sec. Rice would be a good VP, but she is exponentially more qualified than the Sarah-cuda.
