Maddow

Boston Globe:

ST. PAUL - When Rachel Maddow arrived at a local café one morning last week on behalf of the Air America affiliate that broadcasts her three-hour drive-time show in the Twin Cities, she was dressed for radio, with a loose-fitting V-neck T-shirt and thick-rimmed black glasses.

One of the hundreds of listeners who patiently waited in line to meet Maddow came with an offering: a "Give Peace a Chance" lapel pin that she hoped Maddow would sport on her MSNBC television show. "I won't wear jewelry" on the air, Maddow said, apologetically affixing the pin to a corner of her shirt, near her waist. "I don't want to start a cascade of things I can't control."

It may be too late to stop the gush. Maddow was part of the original lineup on Air America, founded in 2004 to counter conservative dominance of talk radio under the market-friendly promise that liberals, too, could be entertaining. More than anyone else, Maddow fulfilled that pledge, with an affable and erudite approach to the day's news and the rhetorical combat that inevitably surrounds it.

Tonight, "The Rachel Maddow Show" debuts on MSNBC, leaving her on the cusp of full-blown stardom in the mainstream media that her most devoted fans see as an enemy.

I like Rachel Maddow as a person
But not enough to get her own show unless she replaces countdown

She is smart and highly articulate, and I appreciate her analysis, but what is with the post-modern Amish look? Even men, whose sartorial options tend to be more proscribed (and prescribed) than women's, exercise greater choice in color through ties and shirts. Why is Rachel so very, very severe in her dress?

What? Do you want her to be a Fox/CNN tart? Dressing up as it's for a cocktail party? Screw that. I find her look very refreshing she then gets you to focus on what's IMPORTANT...
the words that are coming out of her mouth.

She should interview Keefe and Chrissy:

"How does it feel to be the laughing stocks of MSNBC?"

Umm, you're either a liar or just stupid. It wasn't MSNBC's management, it was NBC's corporate media management. I'm betting Olbermann tells management to stuff it later tonight.

Good Luck Rachel. I hope you do us a favor and remind the country of this little fact:

Just a friendly reminder that we were attacked on the REPUBLICAN'S WATCH:

All the best to you Rachel. You are a solid journalist and reporter.
Don't let the corporate interests and rethugs bully you.
Do your job!

Rachel will add real talent along with Keith to a somewhat talent drained line up. Matthews does not allow his guest to get a word in edge wise, Gregory is hell bent to keep a fight going between the D' & R's so he and his buddy Pat can spin it the way they want to (job security). When the repubs start to complain too much about McCain and Palin being treated unfair, MSNBC will find a way to tone Rachel and Keith down. What a shame!!!!!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:50 PM on 09/08/2008

KO will let them talk, but they say the same thing KO would say if he wee talking. So why not talk over them like Matthews? KO NEVER has anyone that disagrees with him. That was the issue with him and CM. CM did not agree with everything that came out of his filthy hole so KO got nasty. Oddly enough is went both ways with these two clows.

I don't think Rachel needs to be toned down. Honestly, I think she get's it and takes her responsibility pretty seriously. How you mention her in the same sentence with KO is beyond me, though. I disagree with just about everything both of them have to say, but Rachel comes across as sincere and thoughtful to me most of the time. KO, just cynical, biased, obnoxious, disconnected....

I think she will replace Olbermann. Olbermann is on the edge and is ready to go over. RM is fresh ad ready to go. She is as rabid as KO. Just listen to her AA radio show. Because she is a woman, she will be allowed to say things KO can not. So why keep KO on? KO should have thought this through better.

On what? That KO will stay in his bath tub again crying about not wanting to go to work as he goes over the edge? Or that RM will be the last one standing. KO did not work last Friday. RM said he had a very deserved day off. From what? He was afraid to go to the RNC and covered Gustav for one day. RM was at the RNC and was at work Friday. He is a man child. She will outlast him.

Anyone who's listened to Maddow on AA knows this lady doesn't nibble around the edges. Prepare for some devastating, no-nonsense commentary. Two hours of exploding myths and hard-edged analysis, starting with Olbermann, should prove interesting.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:43 PM on 09/08/2008

Yes be prepared to fact check as well. She just like KO will drop devastating verbal bombs that are not based in truth and can not be proven. So fact check what you hear or you will be the same sheeple you accuse the republicans of being. RM and KO are the same person with dif equip. That is why MSNBC sucks. It is 24/7 of bashing America and how much America sux. That means you and I.

I am not America. I live here and am very grateful for our lovely land, even though some of our ancestors actually stole it many years ago. I am glad that I am able to believe as I please as long as I do not harm anyone else in doing so. I am glad it was written into the constitution that if our government no longer represents the interests of its' people, we should do something about it. I am not a child and the American "government" (president, et. al) is not my parent. The government's job is to represent the people. KO and RM do not bash America; they bash many of the people who claim to represent it who actually don't.

Correction, Cletus...the America that "sux" means YOU. Addressing your blather further down the thread, the role of government is to uphold the Constitution (check the Oath Of Office) and maintain law and order, not let us all "work it out" as you contend. Letting everyone "work it out" is one description of a riot.

If you feel Olbermann and Maddow are trying to tell you what to think, it's only because you don't think for yourself to begin with.

As for "protecting us", how do you explain over 4,000 MORE Americans dead and tens of thousands injured? Not only did Junior invade the wrong country, he saved al Qaeda the airfare for a second attack.

You're dismissed, amateur.

If you fear Olbermann and Maddow are trying to tell you what to think, you must be very unsure of yourself.

The problem with the media is that they all want to be the celebrities that they report on. "On the cusp of full-blown stardom"? Really? I'd settle for her being competent, relevent, and most importantly, objective. The last thing the news needs is another useless-but-popular face.
