ABC Interviews Palin's "Closest Friends," But Most Won't Say They're Voting For Her

Good Morning America convened a klatsch with four of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's "closest friends" for 15 years in the hopes that one of them might spill the beans on the press-shy vice-presidential contender and reveal that she is secretly having an affair with a book-banning polar bear or something. What they reveal, however, is that not all of them are likely to vote for their friend.

As it turns out, Palin's pals are a perfectly lovely quartet of women who hang out and exercise and eat chocolate, but the video is burning up the blogosphere because some of them are avowedly pro-choice -- in opposition to Palin -- and three of the four won't even say they're supporting her ticket.

This is supposed to reveal that the people who know Palin best won't vote for her, and so you'd have to be crazy to do so, but, honestly? I wouldn't vote for most of my friends, either, because they tend to be criminals or drunks or worse: bloggers. I'd expect my dear friends to oppose my own presidential ambitions on similar grounds.

More curious, frankly, is the revelation that Sarah Palin hates cats. This is not abnormal on its face, since it's perfectly reasonable to loathe anything that requires the permanent installation of a box full of feces in one's household. However, Palin may have a political reason for opposing cats. According to a letter sent to the Palm Beach Post, it seems that the residents of Talkeetna, Alaska - who the Wikipedia tells me is the inspiration for the fictional burg of Cicely, as depicted in the teevee show Northern Exposure - chose a cat named Stubbs as their official mayor. Stubbs has executive experience, hunts prey with his bare paws, and does not bilk the taxpayers of Alaska out of money for fake per diem expenses, like Palin does.

Stubbs the cat hangs out at Nagley's General Store in Talkeetna, with a bunch of other cats, all of whom have been thoroughly vetted, by actual veterinarians.

I bet the cat represents the "demons" she sees in things. When she speaks in "tongues" does the cat go nuts? In the GMA clip, the part about not liking cats--being "afraid" of a cat--is pretty telling.

What I do not get is that they and Ms. Palin are so called Pro Life but its ok to shoot down an animal like some savage beast from a helicopter and then wear the spoils?

Admitedly animals aren´t humans, but if you are so pro life, should´t you have some sort of compassion for the animals in your so called "sport" of hunting. That clip of shooting the wolf from the helicopter is simply savage.

So Sarah is honest? That means that when she's confronted with the truth, she will acknowledge that. That's a good thing. They weren't very enthusiastic, but they appear to really like her so, either they think she's gotten in way over her head or they're just generally concerned about her. They are her closest friends. .

"The Elite Six" Very nice women. I trust their opinion of SP. I think that SP is kind of clueless about national politics really and I just don't feel that JM is the best to address the primary issues that concern me.

It amazes me the women out there who love Palin just because she's a woman and "seems like" them, yet the woman who know her best seem to have concerns about her. Just goes to show that most voters truly don't vote on the issues, but on who they "like" or seems most like them. They LIKE the idea that ANYONE can become president.­..seems to me that ought to scare us rather than make us feel good!!

It does scare me. A LOT. It floored me today when I heard about the 20% swing in white women from Obama to McCain. It made me ashamed to be a white woman. It means that McCain's nakedly political ploy in naming Palin as his running mate has worked, unfortunately. It also means that a lot of my fellow white women are obviously thinking with their hearts and their female parts and not with their brains. I just hope that any of those women who have teenage sons are ready to ship them off to the military when the draft is instituted after McCain starts dropping bombs on Iran.
