Palin Pals

Good Morning America convened a klatsch with four of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's "closest friends" for 15 years in the hopes that one of them might spill the beans on the press-shy vice-presidential contender and reveal that she is secretly having an affair with a book-banning polar bear or something. What they reveal, however, is that not all of them are likely to vote for their friend.

As it turns out, Palin's pals are a perfectly lovely quartet of women who hang out and exercise and eat chocolate, but the video is burning up the blogosphere because some of them are avowedly pro-choice -- in opposition to Palin -- and three of the four won't even say they're supporting her ticket.

[WATCH.]

This is supposed to reveal that the people who know Palin best won't vote for her, and so you'd have to be crazy to do so, but, honestly? I wouldn't vote for most of my friends, either, because they tend to be criminals or drunks or worse: bloggers. I'd expect my dear friends to oppose my own presidential ambitions on similar grounds.

More curious, frankly, is the revelation that Sarah Palin hates cats. This is not abnormal on its face, since it's perfectly reasonable to loathe anything that requires the permanent installation of a box full of feces in one's household. However, Palin may have a political reason for opposing cats. According to a letter sent to the Palm Beach Post, it seems that the residents of Talkeetna, Alaska - who the Wikipedia tells me is the inspiration for the fictional burg of Cicely, as depicted in the teevee show Northern Exposure - chose a cat named Stubbs as their official mayor. Stubbs has executive experience, hunts prey with his bare paws, and does not bilk the taxpayers of Alaska out of money for fake per diem expenses, like Palin does.

Stubbs the cat hangs out at Nagley's General Store in Talkeetna, with a bunch of other cats, all of whom have been thoroughly vetted, by actual veterinarians.

When Palin's friend calls her "honest" I guess she's talking about the times when her lips aren't moving...

This interview with her girlfriends is a testimonial to it being ok to like Palin. But it doesn't have to mean as a heartbeat away from the presidency.

You can like her and see her regularly when she loses this election and parlays the exposure into a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract as a talk show host on Fox.

yes! i think we should convince on of the networks to give her a Sitcom... i think she'd take it over the VP slot... and it would be a ratings hit! any thoughts on a title?... like "Growin Palin!" or something simple like "Alaska!" It defiently needs to be quirky and off-putting... a Nothern Exposure type thing, where the town goes crazy Purtian.

...oh wait i guess that's kinda what's happening, except it's not Sitcom, it's for control of the White House and it's playing on every network.

doesn't it scare you?

I am hard pressed to find something positive about Sarah Palin. However after watching the interview of her close friends, I can appreciate the diversity of opinions among the group that they apparently transcend in order to still have fun together. If after the interview Palin becomes a "bad breaker-upper" then my first impression of Palin will be reinforced. However, if she contiues to be their good friend and shows up for the ornament exchange in December with no hard feelings, then I will rethink my opinion of her as a person. Currently, I find her family first displays and pronouncements disingenuous.

Sarah Palin's campaign treasurer, Debbie Richter, was married to Todd Palin's business partner, Scott Richter. The Richters and the Palins own real estate together, and Richter's business address shows up co-mingled with Palin's inaugural committee. Palin muddles business and personal.

After Palin got into the Governor's office, she made her campaign's treasurer, Debbie Richter, the director of that fat oil royalty fund for Alaskans. $35 billion. A computer glitch, and all records of recipients were wiped out, but that's another story for another day.

Another childhood friend, John Bitney, also worked for Sarah Palin. Bitney and Debbie had an affair and subsequently married. Sarah and Todd Palin didn't like that, and Sarah fired Bitney. Something about his not being forthcoming about his private affairs. Sarah didn't fire Debbie, but each couple has gone their own way, and don't run in the same circles anymore.

What I found interesting was the comment by Bitney. He is, or was, forgiving and understanding of why Palin fired him, until Palin's spokeswoman told the press it was because of "poor job performance". He described the circumstances and said, "They were, you know, professionally my bosses, but they were my friends," Mr. Bitney said of the Palins. "And so what caused them to want me to leave the governor's office was my relationship, my divorce, my dating a woman with whom they had a personal relationship."

"They" were his "bosses"?

Is anyone other than me wondering exactly where the SIXTH member of the Elite 6 is? And what she might have to contribute to the conversation? The only reference I heard to her was "the sixth member was inextricably not present." Makes ya wonder................

I have many close friends that have different politcal opinions than I do! Who wants friends that are just carbon copies of themselves? The blogger above (dabrigadier) said they "guarantee" Obama and Biden's friends would be on board to vote for them...what a joke!! Obama doesn't have any freinds!!!

Empty Suit?? So what should he fill it with war machines, guns, vindictiveness, hate, intolerance, extremism or maybe oil to make his friends rich(er)?

Or maybe he can wear million dollar suits and sit in so called "Think Tanks" and think of ways to screw the American public and denegrate the Contstitution.

It´s interesting how you NeoCon so called "Intellectuals," (in your own mind), got EVERYTHING wrong, from the economy to the war and you have the nerve to call an highly intelligent, thoughtful leader and "empty suit." Better empty suit than empty minds.

A lot of communities ban pit bulls. Most times when a pit bull attacks a human being they are put down. They are a dog that was invented by inbreeding and are an instance when a good dog was made bad.

I think that htese women are not quick to commit to her, because they defitnitely know something and it is only a matter of time. Perhaps they know that the little baby Trig is really Bristol's first baby and she is having her second soon. C'mon...no one saw this woman pregnant and she stayed to give a speech after her water broke. C'mon people...ask any pregnant woman if they wanted to give a speech after their water broke.....and it was "baby number 5." STOPE THE INSANITY AND WAKE UP AND SMELLED THE COFFEE!!!!

I really want to give her the benefit of doubt re: these rumors, but I am very confused by the revelation on the 5th child's birth.

I am a mother of 4, and when my water broke, the doctor told me to get to the hospital, and that was with baby number 2 around my due date. I can't imagine that her doctor told her to continue to give the speech and fly home, without going to be checked by a local hospital first, for a woman who has broken her water 5 weeks early.

I'm a big conspiracy theorist, but I really am trying to give her the benefit of doubt, because I would rather focus on the issues, but I'm telling you something is not smelling right here.

Oh, and for those of you dissenters, if you read the Times article on this, SP indicates that she found out she was pregnant and then a few weeks later, she had the amnio. An amnio is not generally given until 15th- 20th weeks. So she held off telling anyone until she had the amnio?

Another thing: I'm a pro-life Dem. When my doctor asked me if I wanted to have the amnio and some other genetic tests, I responded immediately no. There was nothing to think about, because I was having that baby, even though I knew it would be delivered prematurely! I don't understand why she would want to have the amnio.....

You are not alone in that thinking, and my feeling is that if she would lie about this, then she would lie about ANYTHING. You can't be more personal than having a child. For those of you who are mothers out there, I am sure you can relate.

Glad you are asking. I was doing the numbers on the amnio and thought it was done later than she said she had hers. Also, I can't understand if you are prolife and would never choose to abort a fetus why would you RISK miscarriage for no good reason? Many disorders can be IDd with a panel done fairly early. That is non-invasive. The in labor thing really confuses me. I was 8 weeks early and although my labor was not progressing, it was in by back, I was having a hard time breathing. Let's not talk about the hour drive to the big hospital equiped to handle the birth of a special needs child. She gets on a plane to BFE? Nothing makes sense. The daughter has boobs like a nursing mom. I did notice that Palin looked thick in what would have been her 7th month. I can't believe miss right to life wasnt shouting from the rooftops about her little miracle as soon as that stick turned pink. So, if you were the mother being scrutinized, wouldn't you produce a birth certificate to shut us all up?

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, the emperor has not clothes.

These isolated places like Alaska, I think have more crime, esp. by the pols, they can get away with more. I, for one haven't been paying attention to Alaska, until now. They won't be able to go back to business as usual. Her friends (except one), sure didn't give her a glowing recommendation when it came to voting for her and McCain. Hmmm.

Do you get the feeling people are going to vote for McPalin because they are both white?

If the Dem. ticket had two white middle-age men on it would there be such a willingness to vote for McPalin?

Are people voting for McPalin or against Barack?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:21 PM on 09/09/2008

against Barack ...look at MaPalins convention and evry place they go all white........ many in america just can't bring themselves to vote for a black man no matter how bad the country goes down.

At least there a SOME smart white women out there (myself included) who aren't swayed by the "devoted hockey mom" facade.
Now, we need to convince the ones who are naive enough to vote for the PERSON instead of for the CANDIDATE and for the issues.

It is the issues, stupid...get it, lady?
