ABC Interviews Palin's "Closest Friends," But Most Won't Say They're Voting For Her

Good Morning America convened a klatsch with four of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin's "closest friends" for 15 years in the hopes that one of them might spill the beans on the press-shy vice-presidential contender and reveal that she is secretly having an affair with a book-banning polar bear or something. What they reveal, however, is that not all of them are likely to vote for their friend.

As it turns out, Palin's pals are a perfectly lovely quartet of women who hang out and exercise and eat chocolate, but the video is burning up the blogosphere because some of them are avowedly pro-choice -- in opposition to Palin -- and three of the four won't even say they're supporting her ticket.

This is supposed to reveal that the people who know Palin best won't vote for her, and so you'd have to be crazy to do so, but, honestly? I wouldn't vote for most of my friends, either, because they tend to be criminals or drunks or worse: bloggers. I'd expect my dear friends to oppose my own presidential ambitions on similar grounds.

More curious, frankly, is the revelation that Sarah Palin hates cats. This is not abnormal on its face, since it's perfectly reasonable to loathe anything that requires the permanent installation of a box full of feces in one's household. However, Palin may have a political reason for opposing cats. According to a letter sent to the Palm Beach Post, it seems that the residents of Talkeetna, Alaska - who the Wikipedia tells me is the inspiration for the fictional burg of Cicely, as depicted in the teevee show Northern Exposure - chose a cat named Stubbs as their official mayor. Stubbs has executive experience, hunts prey with his bare paws, and does not bilk the taxpayers of Alaska out of money for fake per diem expenses, like Palin does.

Stubbs the cat hangs out at Nagley's General Store in Talkeetna, with a bunch of other cats, all of whom have been thoroughly vetted, by actual veterinarians.

i support the palin administration for one reason. We haven't learned the lesson if palin-mccain is a viable progression from where we are. It's become nightmarishly obvious that the world will have to learn an even more grotesquely harsh lesson than the one from the Bush administration and its supporters. Prepare for the remedial course in hate-mongering, hubris, and hegemony a la Alaska ethics. If you thought Texas was bad, the next 16 years with Ted Stevens' female alter-ego at the federal trough will more than shock and awe.

We believe we're in the classic class struggle at home. But the government just seized half the houses in America in the most swift corporate-communist revolution in history.

The corporate commies have won, and the US taxpayer will be enslaved for a century to pay off the institutional banking and foreign sovereign funds, the robber barons we invite to raid the treasury in the guise of rescuing our economy via the stultifying impact of shock and awe.

The times, they are astounding, and the end of the American age ascends, in the twinkling of an eye, while pious capitalists clap wildly for what is inarguably a bigger state bailout than Social Security ever was. Six trillion dollars in commercial activity gone, just like that... a rapture, indeed.

If the Iraq occupation is, in fact, 'God's war' as Palin believes... that implies that God is on the side of lies and injustice... last time I checked, God told Jews, Muslims and Christians "Thou shalt not kill" and "Thou shalt not bear false witness". I don't think war is high on God's list of worthy causes.

Sarah Palin and her 'church' aren't Christians... they are sanctimonious, ignorant bullies participating in really dangerous mind control exercises. I don't want any of those people anywhere near the top of my government.

I appreciate it most as a cat owner - both are "outdoor" animals, so no permanently installed boxes of ____ here. I didn't really need another reason to distrust Palin, though. She's welcome to her opinion.

Frankly, though, I believe that if cats had a political party affiliation they'd all be Republicans. I won't get into why, but it proves that on at least some level I am totally capable of getting along with the opposition.

You should check out the comic strip Pearls Before Swine. The cat in that comic is particularly nefarious and hilarious. In fact, today is a pretty good description of the cat. My favorite was when he was a terrorist.

PBS (no relation to the TV broadcaster, obviously) is genius. I've been following it for ages, since a series of Librarian jokes from it caught my attention a few years ago. It recently found its way to my local newspaper, which was really awesome.

Too true. No one actually OWNS a cat. The cat owns you. We called a truce and decided to refer to each other as "family". My cat comes to me when I call her because she picked me as her cuddle-giver. When my husband calls her, she looks at him like "go to hell" and keeps walking, making him feel 2 inches tall. Every now and then she'll sleep on his chest to keep him grateful and loyal, but when mommy comes home, she's got no use for him.

Maybe that's why Palin doesn't like cats. You'll never control them. And...cats will fight for their lives. If you ever try to hurt a cat, you will KNOW you've been in a fight. Many a dog has lost a fight with a cat.

Okay, let's get this straight. ABC interviewed FOUR of Palin's exercise buddies. They all applauded her, her work. TWO admited they don't agree with all her views. Who does folks? Huh? When the reporter asked if they would vote; TWO said "absolutely" and one was a Democrate.

One other was undecided. The other said, it was private.

So, four of Palin's friends is a very short list of MOST of her friends.

" Not everything needs to be serious. Sometimes you just need a story that makes you laugh out loud. Though this story is only funny at first blush. I'm tired of Sarah Palin and her act as the GOP pit bull with cheesy lines to make her look like she's ripping meat off the carcasses of Dems and the media. I "liked" her for the first 15 minutes(though I was NEVER going to vote for her), now I sit and scan the internet every few minutes hoping for the BIG story that puts an end to the madness surrounding the Wicked Witch of the West and her Wizard. Where's Dorothy and Toto when you need them.

Whats funny is that she might prove a wild card for republicans too- after all they like to control everything. She is being credited for something in Alaska where she went against her party and supported a Democratic bill to get more wind fall taxes from oil companies.
Funny- thats in Obama's Energy Plan and the right wing media attacked it- I heard them say" how could the oil companies figure out what was a profit to tax as a windfall?" on CNN right after he gave his energy policy speech in August.
Without investments in new energy sources, we will not move forward, just deeper in debt to China.
