Singer-actress Barbra Streisand, who originally endorsed Hillary Clinton in the U.S. presidential primary race, has jumped on Barack Obama's bandwagon with both feet to sing for the newly anointed Democratic nominee at a Beverly Hills fund-raiser next week. Organizers say the hurriedly planned Sept. 16 event will probably mark Obama's final stop on the Hollywood political money trail before the November election.

According to political consultant Andy Spahn, a co-host of the fund-raiser, the evening will begin with a dinner for the Illinois senator and about 250 guests at the landmark Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. Dinner will be followed by a reception in Obama's honor at the main ballroom of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, featuring a performance by Streisand and others. The ballroom holds a crowd of up to 800 people.

Seats for the dinner and reception together go for a whopping $28,500 per person, but supporters who just want to hear Babs sing for Obama can get in for as little as $2,500 per ticket, Spahn said. At those prices, the two-part event could bring in nearly $9 million, making it the biggest single Democratic fund-raiser for the current election cycle. The money would be divided between Obama's campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

Seriously, does this guy need more money? Why doesn't he donate that money to people who could never afford something like that?

I did not vote for Obama in the primaries and I'm glad because if I did I would be feeling swindled and deceived right now.

I've been donating for months now (whatever I can afford), I CERTAINLY don't feel swindled OR deceived. When the goal is to better our country, to promote a brilliant and decent person into office and kick republican butt......................I'm in every single time.

Swindled and deceived NOW??? What about the years 2000-2008 under Bush and friends??? I mean come on. The short term memory complex in this country is horrifying.

YEAH! And why don't Sidney and Moose Breath donate their campaign funds to sex education and contraception programs. MB's daughter obviously could've used some education.

You don't know what you are talking about, and you are in good company with most people in America. Obama did not take federal funding for his campaign, he is ONLY taking it from private donors, so he has to keep raising money until the election. McCain got an $84 million cash infusion from the federal government last week, i.e., our tax dollars. Obama did not.

I couldn't applaud this show of support from the celebrity community louder. There are Republicans who would have it that those who want genuine, deep-rooted change should feel as if they're running across subway tracks to be on the opposite platform. Celebrities can neutralize this feeling in the latecomers to the Democratic Party. Their monetary contributions don't hurt either. And where is Paul McCartney?

Great idea, chase all the middle class voters away with your $28000 dinners.

Bu$h and his vp have campaigned non-stop for 8 years all across the country. All attendees were vetted. Many dollars were exchanged for favors. Plus there were thousands of "free" photo ops. And, you think the middle class will give a damn about one democratic fundraiser? Get real!

Since when is there a middle class in America? Since someone needs speeches written for them or when we all start to think for ourselves again...?

No, no, no. The middle class will be well represented because they earn just under $5 mil. according to McCan't. Barack: Ignore all of the haters. Are there any celebrities who want to hold a fundraiser for McCain? Doubtful. Loser!

Mezz1962, I've been dying to ask you what you thought of Cindy McCain's $300,000 outfit at the convention.

And about the 7 to 12 homes the McCains own.

And remember the McCain comment awhile back, the one about how you needed a jet to get around Arizona these days?

That dinner seems a little trivial in comparison, doesn't it, mezz? So do you, as a matter of fact.

trivial?

Your argument boils down to we should vote for Obama because he's not as big a fraud as McCain.

It's understandably for Obama supporters to vote for him based on your logic, but please stop acting like fvcking brainless sponges when Obama says he's going to change Washington. He's not going to change anything (save his positions).

How many special interest groups will be represented at this gig? Oh, I know, Dems are different. Their special interest groups don't want anything from the government - just the freedom to poison our childern with chemicals and smut and protect our coasts from oil spills that occur almost exclusively from transporting oil, not pumping it. Yea, it will be a great night.

Obamma needs to use this event to remind those people what McCain did with theft of copyright. That alone would get the celebs to open the wallets and throw money at his campaign. Actors, directors, producers, members of the music industry abhore anyone who steals copyright. You just don't do it. This is a golden opportunity for him.

I think it's fair to say Barbra Streisand is an International Treasure, and at her age - if she sang Happy Birthday and forgot the rest of the words, it would still be worth the price of admission.

We can use the money to combat the lies being told by the McCain campaign. Remember a time when lying was unethical, like Bush lied leading up to the Iraq War? McCain takes snippets out of Barack comments like " Iran is a small threat compared to the former Soviet Union" and just plays the first part of the sentence making it look like he said Iran was a small threat. Look how Republican leaders jumped on Senator Obama's mis-statement about his faith and are actually trying to push the fake secret Muslim thing. Voters must punish this behavior or we get more wars and more jobs shiiped over seas.

Very interesting, but still not as compelling as the Palin story. Why do we have to have movie stars support a candidate? Why does Jamie Lee Curtis get a blog when a professor at my university probably has a better grasp of politics? Because she has a high profile as a movie personality? I think we have to be transparent, seriously. And calling Palin Moose and all that is just demeaning, our party can do better than that.

I'm not really sure that they can do better; seriously, as a conservative leaning independent, I'd be more compelled to listen to them if they did, but they do not. It will be their undoing, once again.
