Singer-actress Barbra Streisand, who originally endorsed Hillary Clinton in the U.S. presidential primary race, has jumped on Barack Obama's bandwagon with both feet to sing for the newly anointed Democratic nominee at a Beverly Hills fund-raiser next week. Organizers say the hurriedly planned Sept. 16 event will probably mark Obama's final stop on the Hollywood political money trail before the November election.

According to political consultant Andy Spahn, a co-host of the fund-raiser, the evening will begin with a dinner for the Illinois senator and about 250 guests at the landmark Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. Dinner will be followed by a reception in Obama's honor at the main ballroom of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, featuring a performance by Streisand and others. The ballroom holds a crowd of up to 800 people.

Seats for the dinner and reception together go for a whopping $28,500 per person, but supporters who just want to hear Babs sing for Obama can get in for as little as $2,500 per ticket, Spahn said. At those prices, the two-part event could bring in nearly $9 million, making it the biggest single Democratic fund-raiser for the current election cycle. The money would be divided between Obama's campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

that's the point, kiddo. he doesn't need them. he's got the biggest celebrity in the country behind him: a mother of five who happens to be governor of the 49th state.

Spielberg, Geffen and Streisand, etc. are doing what has been done for umpteen dozen years - a fundraiser. McCain has fundraisers also. It's just that you probably don't recognize any of the names of the big oilmen, lobbyists or corporate CEOs that attend his.

Maybe Babs will quote "Shakespeare" again!

....wish Ms. Streisand would quote a few lines from the Bible. All you 'liberation' arm-chair theologists start brushing out your Bibles and attack these GOPpers with some of their own medicine!!!

Let us show that our "liberal issues" are really the meat of the Good Book.

I think it sends the wrong message when people are literally sleeping in their cars because they have lost their homes or jobs and they don't have enough money for food for their children.

I understand he needs to raise money but how about this? Instead of paying for a fancy dinner, they pay the same price for a ticket and then the campaign donates what they would have spent on food to a local shelter or something like that. Each person has to bring a dish to the dinner themselves and share it but they still get to meet the candidate.

Come on, Barak! By associating yourself in any way whatsoever with Barbara Streisand, you are playing directly into the hands of those who want to portray you as a celebrity, tied to elitist Hollywood.

Ms. Streisand has everything she would ever want. She could help change the world, if she put her money into other efforts of her liking, instead of trying to use her influence to change our government. I do like Obama, and also McCain and I am truly having a hard time deciding, and often kid on these blogs that I am in love with Sarah. This concert makes me sick.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:05 PM on 09/09/2008

Who are YOU kidding? The candidates diverge so tremendously, that if you haven't made up your mind by now, you are DEFINITELY NOT voting on the issues.

And as an American, Barbra has every right to try to change our government. That's what I, like many other Americans, am trying to do now.

let me tell you about "undecided" voters: far too many people think it is their duty to pick a "winner" and not vote for the candidate that bests represents their ideals.

"Undecided" voters at this point in the election simply haven't decided which candidate they believe is going to win, that's all.

too many americans think there are bragging rights in declaring that you voted for the winner. there's far more merit in voting for the right candidate, even if he or she doesn't stand a chance of winning.

Tou certainly don't sound like you are having a hard time deciding.

So you don't like a celebrity like Ms. Streisand trying to influence the election by using her God-given talents to support her chosen candidate, but raise no objection to *corporations* and *K Street lobbyists* actually running McCain's campaign apparatus, smear Senator Obama through corporate financed proxies, and other corporate-financed skullduggery?

IMHO speaking as an independent who loves his country, it is transparently obvious to *Ray Charles* (ie., a dead blind man) that you have already decided to vote for personality over substance, appearances over truth, and corporate predation over justice and the rule of law as enshrined in our Constitution, with your thinly veiled support for "Hundred Years War" McCain and Pontius Pilate Palin.

It is your transparent attempt at playing the undecided independent that is sickening.

Would someone tell P-Diddy that there are Black people in Alaska. In fact, Miss Alaska (1984) was African-American. So much for the notion that Alaskans are racists. Much worse for Libs though is that Sarah Palin came in Second place to the African-America girl. How could this happen if Alaskans are racists. And by the way, that African-American Miss America from Alaska NOW ENDORSES Palin.

You really don't read. She is Pro OBAMA like the rest of those in America who don't have peas for brains.

How will she vote? "I'm on the Obama train," Blackburn said. She was impressed by her former competitor's speech ("the sarcastic lines, that's Sarah") but wonders if it's enough.

$28,500.00 per person huh, this is a full year's salary for a lot of America. Now, this is elitism you can really believe in. He's so out of touch with middle income Americans its not even funny.

Actually, he's fund-raising from the people who can well afford to put an intelligent and well-educated family in the White House.

As I see it, the more he can get from the wealthy people in our country, the less he has to rely on those who, like me, can't afford it.

It appears he's more in touch with middle-income Americans than you are.

I say MORE benefit concerts -- BIG OLE Gigantic Live Aid type things to be covered my MTV and really bring out the vote! Just HUGE publicity -- maybe a marathon -- music of every type and just keep it going until election day! Would be an incredible media thing! Obama's losing steam and his loyal supporters are heaving the big, "Oh, NOOOOOO. Not again."

They could call it the Enough's Z-Nuff.

Shoot, I wish it were the Stones playing! But, that's just a personal problem.

I suspect Repub contrributors on average have deeper pockets than Dem contributors. On the other hand, there are more folks contributing to Dems. The vote totals will reflect this come November. You have a nice day now.
