I Like ItI Don’t Like It

John McCain is out with a response ad to Barack Obama's attacks today on his education policy, accusing the Democratic nominee of not accomplishing a single education-related goal other than to promote "comprehensive sex education" to kindergartners. Seriously, it's come to this.

The spot, titled "Education," comes after the two candidates went back and forth over education issues most of Tuesday. It is an attack the Obama campaign should be ready for. The same lines were used against the Senator during his run for office in 2004 by challenger Alan Keyes, and were brought up during the primary by Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

In essence, Obama supported "age appropriate" sex-education for children as a means of teaching them what was proper or inproper touching, as well as to protect them against pedophiles, his campaign has said. Used in the context of the McCain campaign ad, however, Obama's stance becomes another one of those cultural issues that seems designed to alienate the Illinois Democrat from more socially moderate voters.

And very quickly, the Obama campaign came out with a hard hitting response, pointing to a series of education accomplishments made by Obama, and calling McCain "perverse" for the latest attack.

"It is shameful and downright perverse for the McCain campaign to use a bill that was written to protect young children from sexual predators as a recycled and discredited political attack against a father of two young girls - a position that his friend Mitt Romney also holds. Last week, John McCain told Time magazine he couldn't define what honor was. Now we know why," said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Here is the script of that ad that the McCain folks say will be airing in "key" states.

Education Week says Obama "hasn't made a significant mark on education".

That he's "elusive" on accountability.

A "staunch defender of the existing public school monopoly".

Obama's one accomplishment?

Legislation to teach "comprehensive sex education" to kindergartners.

Learning about sex before learning to read?

Barack Obama.

Wrong on education. Wrong for your family.

This ad from McCain clearly insinuates that Obama wants to direct the nation's children into lives of lasciviousness.... A vicious, totally unfounded and descpicably nasty smear. Call me a hothead, but if that ad were used on me, I would march right into McCain hdqrs and grab the first 10 slimeballs I found...by their necks...and squeeze...until each noggin separated from its torso. I mean, do those cruds have it coming or not? Oh, they do indeed. To defend against the lie, deal with the liars. The lot....

I heard Tom Hartman today on Air America talk to many people about how the McCain Camp have been sending out Absentee voting ballots to people with past addresses and other wrong info and asking them to return the ballots. Please pass this on...There are some people who have even received phone calls from the McCain Camp telling them that their ballots are on the way and should be mailed back to them. Can you imagine if Senator Obama was doing this??? Tom doesn't presume to know why this is going on. But he doesn't see it in any voter interest who isn't for JM sending their ballots to his camp...PLEASE PASS THIS ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I literally have no words. This ad should bury John McCain's presidency. I think Senator Obama needs to address this swiftly and do so to a large audience. I would recommend that he hold a press conference and highlight this ad. Enough is indeed enough. This is beyond the pale.

John Sidney McCain!!! It takes a sick, perversive mind to think likr this. You are more well known for your sexual perversity than being a poor student, losing 5 planes & getting captured & telling them anything they wanted you to. I have no respect left for you & hope you lose youe senate seat too.

McCain's campaign is becoming more and more ridiculous as November draws closer. What's even more disgusting is that so many people blindly accept these lies as truth. I love America, and I hate watching it devolve like this, but I'm starting to think that we get what we deserve. If we are a nation that will elect intolerant and ignorant liars, then perhaps McCain should win.

Everything about this campaign ad is offensive...it is all that an honorable person would abhor. Notice the particular photo of Obama that was used to further provoke horror and disgust. It is shocking that anyone would vote for McCain after this latest and lowest attempt to persuade a few voters. I used to respect McCain, however, this latest tactic merely elicits my disgust. HE should be the one apologizing. Is becoming President worth selling your soul. Sounds like The Devil and Daniel Webster.

Obama should launch an add saying "Mccain voted AGAINST protecting children from child molesters."

Anyone that is against this type of training is either out of touch or a child molester. I have a five year old niece and her school offered stanger danger classes this summer at her day camp. My sister not enrolled her but encouraged her to talk about her classes. You cannot not stop a child molester but you can teach your child to recognize the seduction. So that if it does happen, it only happens once and not repeatedly. Many children are molested multiple time by their predators. They do not tell out of fear or embarassment. Any program that would teaches children to seek help immediately is not only appropriate but should be mandatory.

Children are our biggest investment. Kudos to Obama for being an advocate for children.

Shame on McCain. He either has no honor or he is just another dirty old man.

The people that wrote this ad need to take care on how they say things...the Republicans have been busted on more than one occasion for tiddling little kids...I say fight fire with fire here Obama has too much class to respond with pictures of the many politicians that have been outed...take a mirror and every time the Republicans say something nasty they are basically showing themselves up for who they really are...an old party that has no message of their own.

Rove isn't the only right-wing PR operative. Dukakis should know the work of Lee Atwater (now deceased) quite well.

There was a decision in the run-up to the DNC for the Republicans to "pull out all the stops" and that they are. Hopefully it will come back to bite them.

Shame on you John McCain (and I won't even start on Sarah Palin yet about her stance on Roe V. Wade)!!! To lie about the necessary education of our young (yes even Kindergartners) people in order to keep them safe from molestation. I was molested by a male cousin before I was 5 years old. No I couldn't even read yet, but I remember the shame. Had anyone ever educated me to the fact that it was not my fault and that I should have told someone and that I didn't have to keep quiet, then maybe it wouldn't have happened again in my teenage years by an uncle. What people like you don't understand is that this is not just a physical molestation, it is a molestation upon your soul.

And here I am again, feeling like the lies being perpetrated by your campaign is another kind of molestation of not just my intelligence but of my very soul. Sen. Obama is so right, YOU JUST DON'T GET IT, neither does Sarah. ENOUGH truly is ENOUGH!!

As for Sarah Palin's stance on abortion.....I will be surprised if it's much if any different than democratic Vice-Presidential candidate Joe Biden's views.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:00 PM on 09/11/2008

Biden's personal opinion is aligns with the Catholic church-- that a fetus is a life-- but allows that not everyone agrees and therefore believes women should have a legal right to an abortion. He explained it really well on Meet the Press last week- a snippet: "how am i going to tell you ... you must insist upon my view that is based upon a matter of faith?" Palin believes a fetus is a life as a matter of faith and fact and that Roe v. Wade should be overturned.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:50 PM on 09/11/2008

Well now I know why Obama is doomed. How can you fail to see the difference! The difference is that Biden understands that just because he belives something does not mean it's a fact! it does not mean that everyone else has to abide by his philosophy.

Palin belives that we should overturn Roe v Wade, which means she wants to impose her extreme religious views on the entire American population. Surely you can see a difference.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:00 PM on 09/11/2008

Jcsophie,
Biden respects separation of "Church and State". His faith doesn't creep into his office.
Palin is quite opposite.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:08 PM on 09/11/2008

Maybe the problem is that McCain doesn't understand what sex education is since he & Pallin are against sex education for teens. Sex education is about teaching kids how to protect themselves, not teaching kids how to have sex.
