CNN:

John McCain's campaign hit back hard at Joe Biden Tuesday after the Democratic VP candidate appeared to suggest Republicans who do not support stem cell research -- like GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin -- are lacking in their support of children with disabilities.

"Barack Obama's running mate sunk to a new low today launching an offensive debate over who cares more about special needs children," McCain-Palin spokesman Ben Porritt said. "Playing politics with this issue is disturbing and indicative of a desperate campaign."

The sharp response, indicative of the increasingly heated rhetoric from both presidential campaigns as the election enters the final stretch, came shortly after Biden said advocates for people with disabilities should support stem cell research.

Good for you B!den. The media must be in the tank. They don't have the guts to question this woman's record. The c@mpaign won't let her answer questions so we'll vet her and expose her record. Too many women don't know just how pro-life she is. I heard a woman call into a talk show today. She had been a victim of rape and gotten pregnant when she was 17. She had an ab0rtion. Today at 34 years old she said she has never regretted the decision. But if P@lin could have her way the woman and her doctor would have been put in prison.

Ummmm, well one side says "we'll do whatever is scientifically possible to help these children" the other says "this science could help, but we don't like it because of some grey moral ground"

So really, who cares more? I'd say the side thats going to do everything possible.

Get your facts straight..NO ONE is blocking stem cell research. The blocking comes from re[ublicans not wanting government to pay for it.

why?
Why not pay for scientific research that could relieve the suffering of millions?

We need to spend HOW MUCH on a war for oil?
We need to bailout Socialize the losses of Corp America?

and BTW - it's not just about govt not paying for it
now that we have brought the extreme religious pov into the picture - it's about a lot more than "paying for"

Your attempt at belittling the entire picture is offensive and tired

NOT THIS TIME!!!!

It will not be done without government paying for it. Basic biological research is not done by private corporations with enough effort to produce significant contributions to the scientific knowledge base.

It sucks that this maneuvering works for the general public. The McCain camp pulls it way out of context and tells the public what to thing and encourages outrage. That is how they are going to win. Obama has no experience, plus his people are so heartless! This drives me crazy.

I lost both of my parents to esophageal cancer. I am very concerned about stem cell research, as are most American's. John McCain needs to be hammered on this topic, and others, until the voters HEAR it.

Go Joe!

Cause discussing the valid policy issue of stem cell research is TOTALLY playing politics.
How dare he discuss an actual issue!

Palin, earlier this year, used her line-item veto to slash funding for a state program benefitting teen mothers in need of a place to live.
After the legislature passed a spending bill in April, Palin went through the measure reducing and eliminating funds for programs she opposed. Inking her initials on the legislation -- "SP" -- Palin reduced funding for Covenant House Alaska by more than 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 million to $3.9 million. Covenant House is a mix of programs and shelters for troubled youths, including Passage House, which is a transitional home for teenage mothers.

The McCain campaign seeks to redefine facts that they don't like as low blows. The Swift Boat team II is officially launched. We will not allow them to get away with it again.

You would think that someone like Palin with a disabled child would be all in favor of stem cell research. it won't help her child, but it might help those with other problems. Of course, she's going to be very self-righteous and holy about the whole thing, ignoring the suffering around her. Typical republican...go nutso over the child before it's born---and after? Free market economy, dearie...you're on your own.

Joe is exactly right. He certainly did not show any lack of concern for her or her son. Rather he showed concern for all children who suffer from Down's Symdrome which is caused by the lack of a specific chromosone and which could possibly be helped by stem cell research.

Down's syndrome is not a lack of a chromosome, it is an extra chromosome on the 21st pair. This is a genetic abnormality that cannot be repaired using stem cell research.

But there are lots of other diseases that can be cured with stem cell research. There is actually some research going on that will take the "morality" out of the stem cell research issue. They are discovering ways to turn human adult cells into stem cells. This is very exciting because we won't have to use embryos to get stem cells anymore.

An advocate?

Joe Biden on the campaign trail today shouted out to a wheelchair bound man to "Stand up, and let everyone see you".

That is an idiotic post. The crowds that are at these speeches are mostly standing and a wheelchair usually could not be seen...Biden could have thought that the person was just sitting down....So take that to the garbage.

How familiar...you twist the truth and spit out garbage.

If Sen. Biden summoned to stand who was wheel chair bound, it was because he did not realize the person was wheel chair bound.

But what prey tell is the explanation for Mr. McCain pushing a wheel chair bound person into a wall, as reported recently? What possible excuse could there be for such conduct by a U. S. Senator?
But you want to dishonor the American people, with distortions about Biden, by claiming he was insensitive to the disabled when all that likely occured was that he was asking the person to speak louder, and used the phrase "stand up and speak, so everyone can see you"?

Let's summon the Veterans.
I'm sure they can settle this, and answer all that our hearts can stomach to bear to listen to concerning just how Sen. McCain feels about disabled veterans, particularly the Walter Reed vets.

Media reports have suggested Palin would be sensitive to issues of importance to the parents of disabled children. One of the main issues is stem-cell research. The families I know with disabled children are very vocal about this and quite angry that research has been shut down by the Bush Admin.

McCain/Palin want it both ways. They make their families part of their marketing pitch--the People magazine cover, for instance--then complain when others point out the inconsistencies between their family situations and their stated policies. It's the typical conservative approach: holding everyone else to a high standard and becoming offended when their failure to meet that standard is pointed out.

Speaking of the People cover, why was Bridget McCain left out of the picture? Because she is non-white? Because she is not photogenic enough?

Under SP - RapeVictims had to pay for their own forensic exam
http://www.frontiersman.com/articles/2000/05/23/news.txt

"While the Alaska State Troopers and most municipal police agencies have covered the cost of exams, which cost between $300 to $1,200 apiece, the Wasilla police department does charge the victims of sexual assault for the tests."

Way to go Joe!!! First it was that the media sunk to a new low because it questioned her qualifications to be President. Who knew that you're not suppose to question the V.P. about their qualifications to be President?

It's laughable. No, she doesn't support children. My guess is that she supports the Bush/McCain agenda of not funding programs like "No Child Left Behind".
