McCain Camp: Biden "Sunk To A New Low" On Stem Cell Research

John McCain's campaign hit back hard at Joe Biden Tuesday after the Democratic VP candidate appeared to suggest Republicans who do not support stem cell research -- like GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin -- are lacking in their support of children with disabilities.

"Barack Obama's running mate sunk to a new low today launching an offensive debate over who cares more about special needs children," McCain-Palin spokesman Ben Porritt said. "Playing politics with this issue is disturbing and indicative of a desperate campaign."

The sharp response, indicative of the increasingly heated rhetoric from both presidential campaigns as the election enters the final stretch, came shortly after Biden said advocates for people with disabilities should support stem cell research.

Republicans have been playing politics for 8 years with stem cells, education, and just about every issue that could help the American people. They really ought to defend their lousy record on these issues instead of being outraged that their positions are campaign issues. Palin's record on these issues are certainly fair game. Stop being whiners and tell Americans why stem cell research is bad.

Actually, as Governor of Alaska she cut funding for the program for special needs children, by twenty five percent, from five million dollars to three and a quarter million. If you've done your research, you are a damned lier!

The point is that she said 'Hey, special needs parents, you'll have a friend in me in the White House' and this is a valid rejoinder. If you say 'Hey, Iraqi veteran's parents, you'll have a friend in me in the White House', can we not respond? Her positions are not really all that pro-special-needs-parents, and it's weird.

Joe was not targeting Sarah Palin's baby. Sarah Palin's baby has Down's Syndrome. Down's is a chromosomal abnormality (trisomy 21) which cannot be cured with stem cell therapies.

However, Joe has a valid point. Not only would the research help advance therapies to help nervous system disorders like Parkinson's, it would put more people to work. We need all of the jobs we can get!!!!

I lost my dear uncle to Parkinsons. It's is a HORRIBLE disease.
I would beg on my hands and knees for goverment research.
I have a 5 year old granddaughter and pray she never gets it.
Or breaks her back, or gets alzheimer's....or......

I guess the next time my doctor wants a scraping of cells from inside my mouth i should tell him nooooo, they have rights toooo.

BTW, the cells they use, were never going to be people anyway. They were going to be discarded, mostly from in vitro procedures and abortions (gasp). They can also be harvested from cord blood and placenta.
