The rock band "Heart" may have asked John McCain and Sarah Palin stop playing their song "Barracuda" at their rallies, but the campaign is apparently paying no heed.

The track -- played at the Republican National Convention in honor of the Vice Presidential nominee, who earned the nickname "Sarah Barracuda" playing high school basketball in Alaska -- was pumped through the streets of Lebanon, Ohio on Tuesday morning at an outdoor rally before the GOP ticket showed up.

When the song was played after Palin's convention speech last week, the band members quickly requested that McCain and Palin pull the plug.

Good for them, the music of heart is licensed through ascap. The band has no control over the use as long as the royalties are paid, it's the deal they signed. Anyone who pays the standard licensing fees can use their music.

Well, Heart can still make it known publicly that they don't appreciate their music used to promote political candidates they don't support ... It IS their music after all, It's no different that when Reagan hijacked Springsteen's "Born in the USA" and "the Boss" spoke out about it.

Heart's fans have the right to know where the artists stand as well.

So much for the Maverick and the repubs HONORING copyright LAWS.

But they are not about honor or truth at all.

can't they get a court order to cease?

If you read the full article, the campaign PAID for the rights to use the song!

Stealing? Hardly! Stealing is when oh I don't know...you get delegates in Michigan that you haven't earned! Yeah, something like that!

Yeah, stealing is fine for Republicans ... what's the surprise?

Heart who? As a forgotten band, they should welcome the attention and royalties.

So while the RIAA is sending shakedown letters to consumers for downloading songs for their own private use, they allow McCain to get away with a blatant theft of a song by a major label band (that album came out on Portrait Records, which was a division of CBS Records) that he is suing in a very public way during rallies.

Love that consistency RIAA.

Some people are givers and some are takers - guess what McScum and his ilk are?

I love that each time the M-P campaign plays the song, some of the royalties will go towards Obama's campaign. Brilliant move!

It would be great if they had to say that too.

Nancy and Ann mean business- They do not screw around. I would not be surprised to see a coming lawsuit soon. McCain had better stop playing around with this.

They know that! It's WORTH EVERY PENNY to them! You don't think they got the money to pay out or, more likely, the power to ignore? That right there tells you "more of the same", as far as thievery and arrogance goes! I hope Barack and Joe hand them a bill for this, once in office. That would be like grinding salt into a wound. Can't wait!

The McCain campaign is saying they paid the royalties and cleared it with the copyright holder.

Although I am for McCain and lean towards believing they paid for the royalties and recieved permission, I still wish they wouldn't use the song.

Not that Mr. Obama is knocking down my door, but I wouldn't want any of my songs to be used by candidates or campaigns that I disagreed with.

Good point

Agreed, but as a listener to the campaigns, I never associate the singer of the recorded music played as an endorsement of the candidate, do you? I just thought they chose the music for the mood, or personal taste, or strategy of the message.

Your right. When Mike Huckabee used a Boston song, I don't think anyone believed that to be an endorsement by Boston. I don't think anyone here thinks Heart is endorsing Palin.
