Obama hit the McCain campaign hard today over their attempts to claim the mantle of change.

OBAMA: Let's just list this for a second. John McCain says he's about change, too. Except -- and so I guess his whole angle is, "Watch out, George Bush, except for economic policy, health-care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy, and Karl Rove-style politics. We're really gonna shake things up in Washington." That's not change. That's just calling some -- the same thing, something different. But you know, you can -- you know, you can put lipstick on a pig; it's still a pig.

Adelise I appreciate your sentiment, but they will lose if they don't fight back. That's what happened in 2004 with John Kerry. You have to be tough with people who lie and attack you. Being nice and taking the crap that the Rethugs dish out is not a winning strategy.

To use a cliche, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. All the Rethugs (I like that) do is lie, criticize and steal ideas (now supposedly they are for "change") it just gets too much to take, so the Dems have to fight back and fight back hard. So the lipstick reference is totally appropriate.

By the way, I do beleive that Barack Obama will win the election, and we all need to go out and help fight for this cause and not be sidetracked by the Rethuglicans usually nonsense.

Never. That's how he rose through the ranks of politics so quickly. Take it from a Chicagoan who's watched him grow over the years. Barack studies his opponents as they go up against other politicians and learns all their tactics. He's studied the rules and knows everything he can and can't get away with, and he'll use those rules to beat you to death.

You have to know that this statement was calculated to put them on the defensive, and it worked beautifully. He specifically called McCain the pig, knowing they'd attribute the statement to her pitbull in lipstick joke. Now he's got them boxed into a corner. If she has any self-respect, she's got to come out and defend herself. That's what Hillary would have done.

If she doesn't and the boys have to defend her honor, then she's a weak damsel in distress, an image that is revolting to most women who don't feel they need a man to come to their rescue. Either way, they're on the defensive now.

I say it was extremely well played. Everybody knows that if you give a bully a black eye, you put the fear in him because now he knows you'll give as good as you get.

That's "ward" boss. Obama is employing the first rule of Chicago politics: First you have to GET the power. Once you have the power, you can make whatever changes you want. But you can't create change until you get the power. Give the people what they want and they'll let you keep the power and do what YOU want.

Chicago used to be one of the most racist cities in the north. Then Harold Washington, the first black mayor of Chicago, used the same grassroots tactics Obama is using to become mayor. Once he got the power, he leveled the playing field so everyone could make money. You no longer had to be white and politically connected to make it in Chicago. Graft & fraud by city employees was dealt with in the harshest possible terms. By eliminating the graft, he attracted record numbers of jobs, businesses and new residents to Chicago from all over the world. He is still deeply revered in this city.

Washington proved that as long as the voters are getting what they want, your enemies are mostly neutralized. When people are making money and living well, they don't want to hear a bunch of politicians whining because they can't steal like they did in the good old days. As long as voters are happy and keep voting for you, you're free make whatever changes you want. It worked beautifully here in Chicago, and Obama is betting it'll work on a national scale. He's probably right.

Here's what I'd ask McCain: Have you always voted "nay" on appropriations bills? Since these always contain earmarks, and you are against earmarks, you should have voted "nay" on all of these, correct? Also, as president, you would not have a line-item veto (declared unconstitutional by SCOTUS) like Gov. Palin does, so you would be in a position of having to most likely veto every appropriations bill put in front of you. So are you prepared to either become the most veto-overriden president in history, because even your party isn't going to all cut their earmarks, or will you eventually give in and sign a bill with earmarks, and thus be lying about your pledge?

Regardless of how Obama voted on earmarks, HE didn't make a big deal out of being against them...Palin did. The point is, she LIED about her position on the Bridge to Nowhere, and continues to do so. An elected official who can't say, I made a mistake, will NOT have the public trust. We have a shortage of that in the U.S. due to lies. Enough lies.

Bottom line: McCain couldn't even stay with his own theme and message. He's now picked up Obama's. He won't be able to sell that Fairy Tale, even with Palin aboard. Because she's not the change agent she professes to be and you can't trust what she says anyway. The lies are documented.
