I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Obama hit the McCain campaign hard today over their attempts to claim the mantle of change.

[WATCH]

OBAMA: Let's just list this for a second. John McCain says he's about change, too. Except -- and so I guess his whole angle is, "Watch out, George Bush, except for economic policy, health-care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy, and Karl Rove-style politics. We're really gonna shake things up in Washington." That's not change. That's just calling some -- the same thing, something different. But you know, you can -- you know, you can put lipstick on a pig; it's still a pig.

The genius of good a politician is delivering a blow without losing one's credibility. With this 'pig' statement, Obama demonstrates there is indeed a moral ground on which this battle is being fought and somehow, someway it's going to be won by the person which best exposes his opponent's faults through humor and light-hearted observation.
It's far easier to trust someone that makes you laugh in the face of adversity than one that only adds to it.

Well done Mr Obama...

I agree that this makes a simple metaphor from which to extend the argument into the issues. Like a good song, you need a hook. This comment is a great hook from which to launch into the body of the pig -- 4 dollar gas, tax cuts for the rich, a shrinking middle class, etc.

I also loved the rest of the comment, not in that clip: "you can wrap a dead fish in paper, but it's still gonna stink after 8 years".. I think this was an even more clever and cutting metaphor, it brings to mind McCain as dead fish and Palin as paper wrapping while still really talking about the failed policies of Republicanism.

Look to hear these memes many many many more times.

Is this the speech that is causing all that fake outrage? Common! Lets talk about the issues.

The Republicans don't want to talk about the issues, and they don't want us to either. They want to distract us. They're hoping that if they make a big enough stink about B.S. we'll forget about the real issues. I won't be at all surprised when gay marriage & flag burning make appearances.

It's time to take the kit gloves off and blast 'em back. McCain and Palin have no viable domestic policy apart from "drill baby drill" and their foreign policy consists of "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran." And the lies are becoming more and more outrageous. What a desperate campaign McCain is running. "Issue, shmissues. Let's lie, lie, and lie some more."

I hear you can also put lipstick on a pit bull these days. I wouldn't imagine that does much to improve its breath, but you never know.

Here's something interesting. For those of you that had any doubt about which candidate would improve relations with the rest of the world -

Now there's change THE WORLD believes in!

For most republicans and some "independents", the fact that the rest of the world wants Obama to be president is an excellent reason why he shouldn't. Not saying I agree with that sentiment, but it's a fact that people think it.

pibble;

Those people have been at the front of this nation falling like a rock and frankly, I'm not all that interested in their view this time around.

It is past time Democrats stop trying to "fell" for the far right Republicans. LOOK AROUND PEOPLE! OPEN YOUR EYES AND LOOK! We MUST change course in this nation. MUST!!!!

Pibble,
Is it that bad that people of the world want a man with an IQ over 80 in the White House?
Is it bad that other nations want to be treated with respect and courtesy?
Is it bad that other nations want to be involved in the workings of international diplomacy?
After eight years of unilateral bullying from the USA?

Get over it Pibble, we are members of the world. It's time we elected a leader that can step up to that responsibility.

Oh please, troll. McCain is suddenly all about "Change", which is of course the Obama rally cry.

"We've got experience, experience, experience" [Introduces Palin] "We're about change, change, change"

Using a well known and well used phrase isn't plagiarism. But then again, the Republicans have shown once again that they can call anything at all whatever they like, and no one will call them out on it.

Come on America, kick the fools out. Eight years of national and international embarrassment is enough.

If he's comparing Palin to a pig then that's insulting to pigs, which happen to be extremely intelligent animals. http://www.goveg.com/f-hiddenlivespigs.asp

He lifted those lines from Deval Patrick

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:59 PM on 09/09/2008

How does where the lines come from affect their validity? It is a common tactic to attack what someone said instead of responding to why it was said. I am curious as to what McCain's proposed changes are.

I am sure someone has used the phrase "John McCain is a liar" before, but that does not mean it isn't true.

there's no way you can place that quote on anybody, that's been around forever....

Deval and Obama are given the same lines by Axelrod.

Plagiarism? Of who? You realize of course, that the lipstick on a pig reference, besides being an old saying, is also the exact terminology that McCain used when commenting on Hillary Clinton's health care proposal.

Cool! Someone must be one of McCain's paid blog commenters!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:07 AM on 09/10/2008

Exactly. I mentioned this before, but I say it again. McCain has made his supporters' comments moot by offering prizes for comments. So either you're a paid commenter or you're an actual supporter and was sold out by your candidate. That's a bad deal.
