Anchorage Daily News:

State game managers will pay people to kill wolves in an effort to boost Alaska's predator- control program.

The 180 volunteer pilots and aerial gunners who are the backbone of the program can get $150 in cash for turning in legs of freshly killed wolves, Gov. Sarah Palin's office announced Tuesday.

Previously, the only reward was a wolf pelt they could sell, usually for somewhere between $200 and $300, said Bruce Bartley, Department of Fish and Game spokesman.

My God are the wolfs eating the kids?

This reward reminds me of the bounty or rewards the government paid for scalps of the real Americans

She will try to clean this up with (in big print) the native peoples and sustenance hunters and then (in small print) and hunters( trophy hunters, that pay big money to go hunt big game) are competeing with the wolves. That's why they give the meat away to schools and such...guess they couldn't eat it all. I so hope this hits the front page.

All of you who defend hunting wolves as "population control" - answer me this - you would think of somebody as cruel and heartless if they said Hurricane Katrina, the tsunami or the war in Iraq was a means of population control? Yes. Think about it. Why the double standard with innocent animals?

Is she too dumb to realize wolves actually benefit the caribou population?! It's called basically survival of the fittest. It keeps their prey population healthy. Only the strong and fast ones can get away from wolves. The sickly ones get caught. It would be like killing all the snakes or cats - without them you will be overrun with rats.

Although I don't think shooting wolves is the answer, this must be welcome news for keepers of livestock that wolves are fond of killing.

Her attitude on the environment and wildlife is NOT in line with most people and women who find this behavior acceptable are an embarrassment to our gender and everything being female stands for. Here, here Huffington.

why does being a women come with predetermined guidlines for the environment and wildlife? Do men likewise have predetermined guidlines? What are they? If not why not, why only women?

Because women are the nuturers, we don't have the killing instinct that seems to plague many men. Yes there is a difference.

Please! Put this story front and center on the national news and beat it with a stick for a week.
Gov. Palin's name will not only be Mud, it will rapidly ruin any lingering belief that she's a breath of fresh air... with the smell of dead wolves floating on the breeze.

HuffPost's Pick

Years back our Landscaping Business built a pen for some people with exotic pets... Snakes, Spiders, a racoon, ferrets, exotic birds, etc... Simple farm people who had gotten a collection of animals over the years and invited school kids out to visit...

Their Coyote's had mated and had 5 pups so they needed a larger pen... We built a 50 ft by 75 ft chain link pen for them... WE rolled, with tractor and block and tackle, a large stump, roots and all onto our trailer and put it mid pen... The Coyotes dug their den beneath that stump...

We were almost finished when they connected with 3 young wolves from Canada, that could not go back into the wild... We added a 25 ft pen onto the Coyote Pen...

I likely will always recall going into the pen at feeding time and having those young wolves licking my hands... What a sacred experience to be so trusted... Eventually those Wolves ended up at Wolf Haven, a few miles from where I live... I believe some of their pups were introduced back into the wilderness to increase the genetic pool...

Palin's experience will NEVER compare with mine...

did you try letting non-domesticated wolves lick your hands? I bet you would have different experience then.

RightWingMarine...
Nope... I have never done that....

But the owner of the Farm, as a teen, would take his lunch and go out and sit on a stump to eat his sandwiches... There was an old Lobo wolf who would come around... Eventually he was able to tear off some of his sandwich and toss it to where the old wolf felt safe enough to come and get it... They would meet there, and yes, he eventually hand fed that wild wolf... Perhaps they are more intelligent then you credit them to be...

He thought the Coyotes were as close as he would ever come to that experience... As to the three young wolves... Not domesticated, as in like a dog... Just trusting of their keepers...

Is NOT a Marine a Domesticated Human? A Protector of the Homeland?
Adj. 1. domesticated - converted or adapted to domestic use...

Michael Vick is Black. Whites pretty much prefer their dogs and these particular canines are always the bad guys. In point of fact, in a movie, Michael Vick would be a wolf, yes?

No white person will ever take the weight that Michael Vick did. Abramoff got a year and seven months more than Vick. Are you still unclear on priorities?

When you have LIKE crimes to support your opinion (Vick and Abramoff are as different as black and white), then perhaps your comment would bear discussion.

There are more than a few of them too.

Wolves are pets?

Look - if an area becomes over-populated with wolves, the wolves starve to death.

Is that what you prefer?

Your post will not serve your side well.

I know 5 different people who own wolves with a tiny percent of dog DNA.

They are exquisite and loyal family members.

The wolves only starve because man robs them of their food supply.

Evolution is also the process of becoming diplomatic. The dog is the descendant of a diplomatic wolf who wanted a portion of the meat a man was cooking over a flame.

Can't they just capture them and let them loose up there in those mountains where Bin Laden is hiding instead?
