Palin Repeats "Bridge To Nowhere" Falsehood Again Despite Intense Criticism

Speaking in Lebanon, Ohio today, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin repeated her frequently debunked lie on the "bridge to nowhere," which originated in her speech to the Republican National Convention last Wednesday. As the crowd cheered, Palin (falsely) recounted how she told the U.S. Congress "thanks but no thanks" for the project that has become a symbol of wasteful government spending.

Virtually every media outlet -- from the Wall Street Journal to FactCheck.org -- that has investigated the claim has found it to be a wholesale fiction. Though Palin did abandon her onetime support for the bridge after winning Alaska's governorship, she did so only after federal dollars dried up. Moreover, she kept the federal funds already given to Alaska.

Yet Palin still continues to use the line in each and every stump speech. In response, the Obama campaign is turning to humor. "On the same day that dozens of news organizations have exposed Governor Palin's phony Bridge to Nowhere claim as a 'naked lie,' she and John McCain continue to repeat the claim in their stump speeches. Maybe tomorrow she'll tell us she sold it on eBay," said Obama campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor.

The eBay dig is a reference to another tall tale from the McCain-Palin campaign -- the idea that the governor sold a luxury jet online. Palin herself has scrupulously avoided saying outright that she sold the plane on eBay -- merely saying that she "put" it on eBay. But McCain himself strayed into the realm of untruth last week by claiming that Palin not only "sold it" through the online auction site, but also did so "at a profit." In fact, the eBay auction was a failure, and Alaska had to sell the plane offline, at a $600,000 loss.

CNN is doing a "fact check" on this today....they first conclude that she IS lying about it, but then they muddy it up so thoroughly with Stevens, democrats, moose hunting and hockey moms you can't tell WHAT she did or didn't do/ Typical Blitzer....make noises like you're about to call a spade a spade, then layer so much nonsense over the truth viewers just want to move on.

From what I've been reading and hearing on news reports about the Bridge to nowhere is Obama and Biden both voted to approve the money for this. When the project was stopped, T. coburn wanted the money to be rerouted to Katrina victims, but O and B voted no! This is on record by the way. So, the money was used for other Alaskan projects. Palin did say she didn't want the Bridge because it cost too much!
As far as the jet, it was on e-bay twice, but didn't get a high enough bid, so was sold through a broker.
So, I guess when Palin said she put it on e-bay she wasn't lying.

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) offered an amendment to send the money to fix NO bridge to slidell .Obama and Biden voted against it, after Sen. Ted Stevens threatened that he would have to be “taken out of here on a stretcher.” The earmark stayed in, until the Senate conference committee on the THUD appropriations bill had agreed to remove the earmarks for the bridges, after the media firestorm.

oh please, she is lying over and over and over again-this isn't about Obama and Biden with regards to the bridge. The point is and the truth IS that she was FOR the bridge before she was against it. Not only that, she TOOK the money for the bridge before she was against it. Stop making excuses for her. She has lied about so many things and the press is calling her on it and she doesn't like it. If she had nothing to hide, she would do interviews and she would also testify in the troopergate scandal like she promised. Maybe since you admire her so much you could explain to all of is ignorant "libs" why it was ok for her husband to bill almost 50,000 to the state of Alaska for his travel. And for Gov Palin to bill for meals and expenses on days she did not travel? How about the money she took from the Alaskan budget to pay for things for her daughter? I don't know about you but at my company if I put in fake expenses I would be fired.
