UPDATE BELOW: PALIN RESPONDS

Actor Matt Damon spoke out on the Republicans' choice of hockey-mom Sarah Palin for VP. Damon compares her rise to a 'really bad Disney movie' and says it's absurd that this woman could become President.

"I think there's a really good chance Sarah Palin could become president, and I think that's a really scary thing... I think the pick was made for political purposes... Do the actuary tables and there's a one out of three chance, if not more, that McCain doesn't survive his first term and it'll be President Palin... It's like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mom, you know, 'oh, I'm just a hockey mom'... and she's facing down President Putin... It's totally absurd... it's a really terrifying possibility... I need to know if she really think that dinosaurs were here 4,000 years ago. I want to know that, I really do. Because she's gonna have the nuclear codes.
UPDATE: PALIN CAMP RESPONDS:
Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for Palin, called the comments "name-calling."

"It's not surprising that the Barack Obama and his celebrity supporters continue to tear down Governor Palin with little more than blatant name-calling," she said. "It's clear they're threatened by a candidate who actually has a record of achieving reform and change, while Barack Obama just talks about it."

(part 2)

When they don't feel like doing the food shopping, or waiting on line for that sale item, or doing to the store themselves -- they have paid helpers to do everything, even dress them.

For all these reasons and many more, I will never listen to a celebrity's opinion when it comes to choosing a president. If I had unlimited income like they do, I would want to save the world, too. Unfortunately, many of us have to do it all by ourselves, and we are already handing over a massive amount of our paychecks to government. We are not looking for handouts from anybody. We are paying our "fair share" already. We support our churches and our charities. We don't trust the government and its corrupt minions to do better than we've already done for ourselves and our families.

I thought you were struggling. Now you're bragging about how great you've done for yourself. If you had any health insurance you might get that diagnosed.

When Matt Damon lives in my reality, he can tell me how to vote.

These people have the money to buy anything they want. When they drug and drink too much, they have their managers find a rehab for them to check into (many of us who have these problems can't take the time or spend the money to "find" ourselves in a luxury, spa-like rehab, much less relapse continually like so many celebs).

If they get depressed, they can jet off to exclusive resorts anywhere in the world.

If they get sick, they have access to the very best medical doctors in this country. If they get upset in the middle of the night due to their symptoms, their doctors make housecalls. They don't have to wait weeks for test results for cancer or other diseases like the rest of us. They get private rooms in hospitals, and they get outpourings of support from their adoring fans.

When the world gets in their way, they can retreat to their multi-million dollar mansions which are gated, all the better to keep them sheltered from their neighbors and everybody else.

(continued)

'These people'? Do you know who Betty Ford was? Congressman get the very best medical treatment in your country for free. Is Matt Damon or any of 'those people' less American than you or does being American mean being as little as you possibly can and pulling down anyone who exceeds you? Because that is infringing on the identity of Lilliputians.

Matt's being too kind to Palin frankly, but I applaud him for speaking out against her. Interesting thing about Sarah Palin in the New Yorker. A prominent Republican Lyda Green thinks she's not even qualified to be governor there let alone VP (and worst case scenario of all, President): http://www.newyorker.com/talk/2008/09/15/080915ta_talk_lizza?yrail. Matt Damon's the man. His assessment is correct regarding Palin, but what's interesting is that there's lots of info. about her out there and one can find some of the worst things not from her ideological opponents, but from her own party. She's not very intelligent (and do we need more of this after Dubya?), an opportunist, ignores her legislature, is a religious nut and clearly governs that way (against abortion even when it's rape?!), believes in censorship (would've made a great Nazi since she likes banning books), self-hating woman who votes AGAINST any and all women's issues (no equal pay for women for Palin), can't answer foreign policy questions (go to war with Russia, really?), is anti-science (doesn't believe in global warming caused by man and thinks creationism should be taught with evolution), and she's a liar (against the Bridge to Nowhere when she was for it for example). Choosing her proves that McCain's either a careless idiot or a calculating politician who wants to win at any cost, including accelerating the decline of this country.

By far the most effective and revealing comments about Palin from an Obama supporter in quite some time.

Sarah Palin's flack does little to demonstrate that her candidate is capable of either depth or integrity, given her mouthing of the same lies about the governor's "reform" record that have been debunked at every turn. Sara Palin is an unvetted, unprepared opportunist who will "serve" her nation if that's what it takes to get ahead, or secede from it if that's the more lucrative course. (And who are these Holloywood celebrities Bush and McCain like to trash? Schwarzenegger? Thompson? Ronald Bonzo Reagan?)

Damon is absolutely right. This guy is more qualified to be vice president than that bimbo is. Hell, he's more qualified to be president than Insane McCain is.

Matt Damon, An American, Not A Liberal

Matt Damon is an American, not a Liberal. And shame on those who label him as such. For each of us has his talents and is allowed to express them.
The designation Liberal Hollywood actor no one has the right to give. Are there right wing mechanics? Do we say Conservative Fascist Maids of America? Left wing paralegals? Middle of the road Police Officers? I cry foul! It is but a ruse, an ungainly turn of words in the game called politics. This is a ploy of the right wing and has no place in proper public discourse, especially over mainstream media.

Damon is right. This woman is TOTALLY unsuited for the job of VP or POTUS. Comparing her to Obama is like comparing a really pretty apple to a really smart, experienced, qualified orange.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:08 AM on 09/13/2008

You are correct in stating that Obama has more experience than Palin. But the point most Obama supporters are not comprehending is that you are fighting over his experience compared to hers. This is a losing battle on the Obama side because you are comparing the person running for President to the person running for VP. In doing so it makes Obama appear inferior and like he is out to prove something. When it comes to measuring experience we should be measuring 1) Obama vs. McCaine 2) Biden vs. Palin

1) McCaine hasmuch more whether you agree with his viewpoints or not
2)Biden has much more whether you agree with his viewpoints or not

Case in point, we are voting in a new President first and foremost. If you want to vote for the Presidential candidate with more experience you vote for McCaine. If you want to make it about inexperience you don't talk about Palin, although it is true, it is a lesser worry than a President with minimal experience. This is why the experience conversation is definitely hurting the Obama/Biden ticket much more than the McCaine/Palin one.

Celebrity or not, Matt Damon is much more qualified to be V.P. than Sarah Palin!

I think Matt is qualified to be president. He does really good reading a prepared text while the cameras are on. Don't ask him to speak on his feet without a script.

Wait! We already have a guy like that running and his VP choice has 36 years of experience. Has anyone seen him lately?

Anyone who saw Palin's interview with Charles Gibson would agree with Matt Damon. How do you get on the Republican ticket without knowing what the Bush Doctrine is? I was utterly embarrassed for her while watching the interview. As a woman, I had hoped that Gov. Palin would be a good representative for us. After her vetting, how could we possibly put these two in the white house? It IS absurd!

As a thinking woman I'm insulted by the poor choice the GOP made in a VP candidate. Clearly they're hoping to take advantage of the absence of Hillary Clinton on the Democratic ticket.

Palin is not VP or Presidential material.

Thanks, but I view myself as more than a uterus with a vote.

Charlie Gibson was trying to confuse her by this question. Many politicians have said they aren't clear on what the "Bush Doctrine" is. Who cares what Matt Damon thinks anyway. Liberal celebrities don't have any impact on my polictical views! They stand for everything I am against! Sarah Palin has morals and values and she will get my vote and my two daughter's who will be voting for their first time!! Obama doesn't have a monopoly on the "young" vote!!! McCain Palin all the way!!

Then many politicians are idiots who haven't read anything in the past 7 years. I know what the Bush Doctrine is. She's not knowledgeable, and even worse, she's not intellectually curious. She doesn't want to know. Eight years of a president like that is far too much already.

The difference between a conservative and a liberal, intellectually, is that conservatives seek out knowledge or opinions that reinforce and solidify the worldview they already have. Liberals (at least, true liberals) seek out information that CHALLENGES their worldview and seek to achieve greater understanding.

Palin thinks we should teach creationism in PUBLIC schools. That is pure, unadulterated, anti-scientific ignorance. That alone disqualifies her in my book.

In a recent release,
Fact Check .org debunks many lies that have been circulating about Sarah Palin. Published Sept. 8, 2008. "Sliming Palin." It is unfortunate that reporters like CNN's Soledan O'Brian are satisfied with the Daily Kos as a sole sorce for a completely false accusation that Sarah Palin cut funding for special needs children by 62%. The fact is she increased this budget by 175%. Also reported in detail at http://proteinwisdom.com/?=13211 .
Fact check goes on to correct lies that she: Demanded books be banned from the Wasilla Library, Was a member of the Alaskan Independence PArty, Endorsed Pat Buchanan and has pushed for teaching of creationism.
CNN has still not apologized for the most offensive smear falsly accusing Palin of cutting funding for special needs kids nor has commnetator Paul Begalia or Hillary Rosen.
Out rage over lies and smears seem a little one sided in the world of liberal blogs. This liberal democrat is getting pretty disgusted with the hypocracy.

First, this is old news. Second, it is possible that the Republicans spread false stories about themselves in order to blame Democrats. 3) Regarding book banning, it is true, she did not "demand"; however, that does not mean "attempt." Please see the following quotes.

Anne Kilkenny, a Democrat who said she attended every City Council meeting in Ms. Palin’s first year in office, said Ms. Palin brought up the idea of banning some books at one meeting. “They were somehow morally or socially objectionable to her,” Ms. Kilkenny said. The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, pledged to “resist all efforts at censorship,” Ms. Kilkenny recalled. Ms. Palin fired Ms. Emmons shortly after taking office but changed course after residents made a strong show of support. William Yardley, New York Times

Palin approached librarian Mary Ellen Emmons three times to ask about the possibility [of removing books], which could legitimately appear to some as something of a pressure campaign (especially considering that Palin attempted to have the librarian removed afterward). Huffington Post
