UPDATE BELOW: PALIN RESPONDS

Actor Matt Damon spoke out on the Republicans' choice of hockey-mom Sarah Palin for VP. Damon compares her rise to a 'really bad Disney movie' and says it's absurd that this woman could become President.

"I think there's a really good chance Sarah Palin could become president, and I think that's a really scary thing... I think the pick was made for political purposes... Do the actuary tables and there's a one out of three chance, if not more, that McCain doesn't survive his first term and it'll be President Palin... It's like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mom, you know, 'oh, I'm just a hockey mom'... and she's facing down President Putin... It's totally absurd... it's a really terrifying possibility... I need to know if she really think that dinosaurs were here 4,000 years ago. I want to know that, I really do. Because she's gonna have the nuclear codes.
UPDATE: PALIN CAMP RESPONDS:
Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for Palin, called the comments "name-calling."

"It's not surprising that the Barack Obama and his celebrity supporters continue to tear down Governor Palin with little more than blatant name-calling," she said. "It's clear they're threatened by a candidate who actually has a record of achieving reform and change, while Barack Obama just talks about it."

I agree. The sexiest man alive also has a brain....that is amazing. Why does it take some actor to ask the questions that I want answered? I would vote for him before Palin, at least he sees the absurdity of this situation and thinks critically.

If Palin is of above average intelligence in America today, we are doomed.

We believe Sarah Palin is going to be a great vice president. We may not know everything about her yet, but we feel we know about the same as the other other candidates. We have spent some time reviewing her past history and it seems to be quiet flattering. I would bet that most of the posters do not have resumes as strong as hers. In every aspect of our life, we think we're going to start a project/task and then change our mind after we've reviewed the project/task an decided we should take a different path. Sometimes it takes someone with great class, to admit they were incorrect and made a change. It happens more than we ever know. When it happens to us, we are not labeled as a "flip-flopper" or "Inexperienced" or any of the number of names Ms. Palin has been called. For such an important decision, it is not only the candidate but the voters who must do their best to review the issues, research, and make a decision before voting. We are definitely praying for Sarah daily.

Yeah, you know the about the same of Palin as you do of other candidates because you didn't bother reading much about the other candidates, who have been around for eons compared to Palin. For such an important decision, I am praying daily that you will not vote before doing a bit more research. Voting is pointless if you don't know anything about what you're voting for apart from the race and gender of your candidate.

That's very interesting. Because if you'd read anything, anything at all, about Bush's past, you would've seen immediately that he was going to be a failure as president, as he'd been at EVERYTHING else in his life. Frankly, the Republican party has shown that it is utterly unqualified to tell any of us who would make a good leader.

Keep praying for her. That oughta do it.

Thoughts to ponder:

How does McCain/Palin plan to reform Washington? Same way she did in Alaska...which was what?

Which books in the PUBLIC libraries will she want ban? Better yet, just ban tv and internet.

How will she get her fix on hunting caribou? Will the tax payers be paying the fuel cost of flying her back to Alaska each time? Maryland/Virginia area has more than enough deer for Palin to hunt for the 4 years that she maybe in office- which would keep her out of the media.

First item on Ebay won't be the plane. It will be the VP's house, then she can just stay in Alaska and use the plane to travel back to DC.

I wonder what McCain really plans to do with Palin...it could be anything since she doesn't even know what the VP does. Past VPs went to funerals.

I GOT IT - I just got, i got it, i got it - oh I'm good

He picked Palin expecting that everyone would attack. So they could defend.

They've been just waiting for the "name calling"!!!

So even when no one does - the whole campaign it poised ready with the response - "IT'S NAME CALLING. They are bashing her. She must be defended!!!"

And no one asks, "Did they? Was she?"

All the ads were already made - and they have been dying to use them - maybe.

Now you see that's what some might call untrue - since I admit, I don't know this to be a fact.

But I do still believe that men of a certain age are just gobsmacked by Ms Palin. Just my personal belief - can't say a personal belief is a lie.

Those observed to be Gobsmacked are:
(in order of least to most)
3. John McCain
2. David Brooks
1. Patrick J Buchanan

Please help complete the list. I am limited to the disinterested BBC or ITV3. And don't get really good views of US news.

name-calling or identifying? categorising, characterising, classifying, comparing, relating, ranking, examining and cross-examining, in short: thinking. try, it won't hurt; it's not poison.

Any church I have attended has this thing called the Ten Commandments and Thou shalt not lie was one of them. Even the Wall Street Journal a publication that is owned by Rupert Murdock, who is a staunch conservitive, has called Palin out on her bridge to nowhere claim. My protestant religion has always taught me that lieing is immoral. Jesus is watching, why do think it did not rain at the Democratic convention and the Republican convention was hampered by a huricane. God is watching and liars will pay their price and no Karl Rovian spin can to stop it. Dont you find it quite a coincidence that Bush's approval rating started it's decline right after Katrina? I feel sorry for John Mcain, because I really belive he wanted to run an election that had a civil conversation and debate on issues that would be good for the country but unfortunatley it's politics as usual. So all you good people who will not look at the issues and support liars God is watching you and I will pray for your soles.

Do Republicans make us fear as they would like us to? Do we dare say, science or stem cell research, Do we dare say, reproductive rights or the rights of gays and lesbians. Do we dare say, sex education for children. Do we dare say, I am not of your faith. Do we dare not say these things for fear of being cast in the role of the terrible sinner by those who would try to beat us down with a moral majority pretension. No, we do not fear. We will not fear. But they want us to, most certainly.

Please can you explain the bit about killing animals - wolves, moose, bears. Or don't they count in your world? Do you feel animals are put on this world for our amusement and sport? And while we're at it, how about a bit of respect for our God-given planet that Palin just wants to drill and destroy? Of course, wqe can just deny we had anything to do with it and "drill, baby, drill".
And while you are valuing life, how about a bit of value for those who are already alive and are being massacred in ill-conceived and unnecessary wars. Tell your reasons for voting McBush to the hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis who have died because you chose an ignorant cowboy as president in 2000".

Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for Palin, called the comments "name-calling."

Ok Huffington - here's your chance - someone here said the job of the media was to ask substantive questions - take them to task - them less-than-truthful people. You know when you were talking about the moon being a rock???

So where in all of what I heard Matt say, did he ever call Palin a "name"?? HuHN? Ok he did mention Hockey Mom - but other than that WHAT NAME DID MATT DAMON call Palin??

He asked what she believes, what she would do - said he'd like to know - But what NAME di he call her?

Please no more (in a squeaky voice), "could you let me finish my question..." GET IT OUT.

ASK THE QUESTIONS - like you said we should - please

Com’on Matt Damon! Why are you really afraid of Palin? Because she’s an intelligent woman? Or could it be your sudden panic and fear that Obama may lose because of this woman? Your fear reveals your ignorance, and your ignorance has revealed your fear. Your clear interest in bashing Palin is proof that she has what it takes to be VP!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:11 PM on 09/12/2008

How would we know if she is an intelligent woman? There are probably only a few million public servants with a more extensive resume. Either the job of President is a lot simpler than we've been led to believe or Matt's questions are right on target.

i hear you. people like matt damon and pamela anderson if that is her last name seem to be running scared which suggests to me that maybe "that woman" Palin is resonating with many voters. So many Democratic elites have been attacking her personally that i as an obama supporter thought i must check into this lass. there must be something there. I did and I find she is very appealing. Why do so many people get worked up because she finally stopped that bridge to nowhere. And why does obama suggest that she is a pig in lipstick. if we want to win elections we can't do that. my wife was very offended. she experience it as a sexist comment. why does no one ask if can work and raise children? why is such a sexist question reserved for women? something is rotten in Denmark.

Comparing Matt Damon to Pamela Anderson is akin to comparing an intelligent human being to plankton.

It's like if I said - wow I can just hear a really shrill voice saying all that - and you said "What eeverrrr"

Damon asked a few really useful questions and you called it bashing. Oh oh that's right, I forgot - intelligent questions are for elitists - who like to make the rest of us see how stupid we are.

"and she's facing down President Putin...."

Actually, I think she and Putin are basically soulmates. Both are cold as ice inside, focused on nothing but power. "Sarah barracuda," remember?

However, she may be a barracuda, but Putin is a Great White and would chew her up and spit her out. If McCain and his Jane Wayne come to power, be very afraid.

Dear Susantt
We don't want a president like us! We want someone who knows what they are DOING. A pregnant daughter is family values? McCain cheat on his first wife is family values? My the world has change. Also, a lie,(including half truths) is any to decieve. She (a churchgoing person and John Mc Cain is LYING!. This is why Christians are has mock. To take from a pastor "America's moral decline is a spiritual problem ,not a political one and it's solution is the gospel, not partisan politics."

LET'S RAISE THE STANDARD

Graduating top of his class and majoring in Constitutional Law is commendable yet not the final answer to a person's character or achievements in life. What I like about Ms Palin is that she voices a more traditional view of this country's founding concepts, like trust in God, patriotism and family, really a balanced and common sense view; what she believes in calls for restraint from any form of extremist views. Many ills of society today have been in the making for a long time, see it in the news of, much of it coming out of Hollywood productions which have no standard of morality; people scoff at morality but it is the fiber of what made this country great at one time, Ms Palin is -like all of us, is imperfect- yet strives for high standards regardless of any personal misfortunes.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:17 PM on 09/12/2008

I don't agree with your assessment of Ms Palin. But, I could be wrong. Assuming that I am, are our standards for the highest office in the land so low that the only requirements for the office are "imperfect-yet strives for high standards"? Where should we line up the few million people that fit that description. The interview process will take a while.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:40 PM on 09/12/2008

The separation of church and state was also one of the major founding principles of this country. There is nothing about Barack Obama that suggests that he does not trust in God, nor is there any reason to question his patriotism or the strength of his family values. So, are those things that you also like about Obama or are you completely full of it?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:54 PM on 09/12/2008

Let me educate you, Sarah: Our fore fathers believed in the separation of church and state. If you want support for your beliefs in god and America, you want to reference the 1950s era of McCarthysism, an era when "Good, Christian, God-fearing Americans were the only ones allowed to stand up and be heard, because if you had a different view, you likely ended up in total ruin or even jail!!"

It's a little hard one to figure out for sure, but if you look at the following information, you'll see why Obama is qualified for the presidency:

Lawyer: Class of '91
Educator: 12 Years
State Senator: 8 Years
U.S. Senator: 3 Years
Committees: Foreign Relations, Environmental and Public Works, Veterans' Affairs, Homeland Security.
Official Travel: Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa.

Good summary of his significant experience in government. Add in his several years in community organizing, his legal experience, and his years lecturing at the law school on the Constitution and Constitutional law, and we see one of the most highly qualified men to have run for the office in years. He has expertise in both foreign and domestic issues, including security and defense. No wonder the Republicans are putting their efforts into a campaign of lies and slander, they are scared that he might really accomplish something for Americans and be unbeatable in the next election.

There are more people saying that Palins choice is a joke and a total politcal trick.
For one we gotlabeled as sexist even if some of us are women, and then there is the Media, not being hrad enough on her pathetic experience, and for knowing nothing about the world. She s never left the country basically.

GOP would make a Goblin look qualified or make their comstituency vote for a Chimpanzee if it was climbing on a cross. There is no debate and frankly.. Matt Damon, you should be the one who goes to the MSM and the journalists telling the to finally report the real things
