Foreclosure

Michigan Messenger:

The chairman of the Republican Party in Macomb County Michigan, a key swing county in a key swing state, is planning to use a list of foreclosed homes to block people from voting in the upcoming election as part of the state GOP's effort to challenge some voters on Election Day.

"We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren't voting from those addresses," party chairman James Carabelli told Michigan Messenger in a telephone interview earlier this week. He said the local party wanted to make sure that proper electoral procedures were followed.

Face it. Republicans don't believe in Democracy. They are the enemies of Democracy. They are ruthless. Their Supreme Court appointees will back up their manipulative plans to steal the election again. Jim Crow laws used to be illegal.

If they want to pursue this approach, then everyone in Macomb county should be turned away at the polls unless they produce notarized documents that prove they own their home with no outstanding mortgages or they are current in all payments and that they are living there.

There are approx. 9000 foreclosures a day now - Obama just needs to point out that the GOP intends to use the loss of their homes as a way to deny people the right to vote.

Said properly, this will open many people's eyes to what the Republican Party is all about - taking advantage of a economic tragedy that they helped create to keep themselves in power.

Thank you for showing how a grass-root fighter talks and also be pro-active.
If you need support writing to protest or support a recall on the local GOP politicians or other ideas what to do. Post it for support, I will keep looking for your postings..

is that a democratic thing to do? shouldn't the citizens of a democratic country be allowed to vote about a measure like this? oh wait, they can't. that sort of neatly wraps it all up; like a Fascist state, doesn't it?

I would imagine that this, and similar tactics will be used - anything to prevent people from voting. It's the American Way!!!

They're trying to disenfranchise college voters in Virginia, and a number of votes have been dumped in Ohio among other places.

If you think this is bad, come to Ohio, "the heart of it all".

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:25 PM on 09/10/2008

what are they doing about it in Ohio or do you care?
When they came for the chickens every week to make a meal, the turkeys and other animals didn't care didn't make a sound either. They came for the pig or hog, than the cow. when they came for the sheep to make lamb chops No one around to stand up to stop the slaughter.

This is WRONG WRONG WRONG. People SHOULD be allowed to vote using phony addresses without regard to race, creed, color, etc.

Your sarcasm comes from a very simplistic view having little or no knowledge, experience or common sense.
The addresses they have at the time they obtain their "list" from whatever source they obtain it, does not update itself, and is subject to incorrect and outdated accuracy or lack of it. When someone purchases these properties in largely minority, low income locations, and attempts to re-register for voting, the republican vote suppressors can by law question anyone for any reason inline and cause voters to be investigated even if they have a valid driver license and address change info including new voter registration for the district. But the issue is that voters that are poor are just as likely to need to get to work and forget about voting if such things happen as wealthier people. in fact, much more likely because low income workers tend to get fired for being late, as opposed to wealthy salaried workers that come and go as they please.

Blocking votes from people who have had their homes foreclosed is not the same as using a phony address in order to vote illegally.
But you knew that already, didn't you tr0//?

Just for you, I'll help spell out what the article meant. I do the same thing for my 6 year old nephew as he is learning reading comprehension skills.

You see, some people who have been recently evicted from their home in the subprime mortgage cirisis have not had the time and/or where-with-all to have their drivers licenses changed. These are people who are not looking to commit election fraud, but merely have their vote counted. The GOP recognizes that there is a high likelihood these people will vote Democrat, so they want to negate their vote on a technicality?

Do you understand you freedom loving patriot?

Just when we thought the the McCain/Bush campaign's state party republican surrogates couldn't sink any lower into the cesspool they've made of their "politics", they, um, do.

It's a shame the McCain/Bush campaign values "honor" and "integrity" only as public shields for their real motives and actual behaviors.

Has the McCain/Bush campaign just had their "Macacca" moment in Michigan?

So - the Repugs deregulate the financial industry and encourage the greedy and risky mortgage practices that led to the foreclosures, and then use the loss of people's homes to disenfranchise them.

These people are just sick.

Jim Crow comes to Michigan.

I grew up in Michigan and now live in the Old South. I was once proud to have been from more civilized state, but no more. Michigan has sunk to the level of Alabama or Louisiana, and appears to be in free fall.

I'll bet $$$ that these GOP thugs won't be challenging votes based on foreclosure notices in Oakland and Macomb counties, where most of the foreclosures are for white people. Only in Wayne County, where blacks are far more concentrated.

I suggest that the Democrats start organizing their own vote challengers and place them in the outer suburbs, where thousands of foreclosures to whites have been made. Most of those people will still inexplicably be voting Republican.

The baby boomers only made a move when the camera are on them. They only make a move when a mass organized group march in protest to get the cameras on them. The younger generation think all they have to do is sit and do facebook, myspace and youtube or blog other sights, that's they way..

The baby boomer are in charge, they don't allow camera of the fallen from the war to be shown on camera. They told the American you cannot handle it. the people said OK we won't make a fuse.

Because that is what happen with the 10 years Vietnam conflict, (congress never declared war). It was on TV every evening on the news. people starting protesting, and marching to include a march on to Washington.. See Forrest Gump movie,

If the younger generation don't stop sitting at a PC and take a more active role to show they are ready to lead this nation. Palin is 44 and Obama is 47. The question is which one will you follow?

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU so much for picking this up.

I and a number of other people are trying desperately to get the word out about this. Please continue to get the word out.

This cannot happen again.

Getting the word out is only half of a great plan. Where is the follow up (action) for the other half.

And they say black people are voting against McCain because of "reverse racism".

Well, Reaganomics can't survive under democracy, so one must hamper democracy to get the policies through.

Thatcher did something similar with a poll tax, iirc
