He was great. He really gives such substantive answers, and never does he just phone it in. He makes you listen whether you agree or not, and it's never politcal posing. No rhetoric, no empty finger pointing. D amn, he even gives genuine credit where due, and it isn't in a superficial, solicitious pandering way. I always feel so empowered as an American after he speaks off the cuff like this. Yeah, his prepared speechs are great, but I love when questions are asked and he does that stutter he's listened, processed, and his reply informs that he's about the issues, that he's in constant study of them and always seeking ways to successfully head America towards a greater future.

One thing I noticed is when Barack said something like "if she'll talk to the media and be interviewed you'll see that......" and the audience started laughing. Barack didn't even mean it as a jab, but it resonated with the audience. He finished and said "you'll see that she agrees with McCain, who agrees with Bush..." (I am paraphrasing, obviously). There is obviously a suspicion about this woman and doing one interview will not cut it. Palin is really going to have to work to prove her case....if McCain's camp thinks otherwise, they'll be sadly mistaken.

Barack did fine in answering questions about her and then pointing to her being more of the McCain- Bush agenda. In the end, unless she parts with McCain in policy, which she won't because the religious right would have a fit, Palin is just another Bush. Nothing will change that fact and that's why McCain-Palin will lose in November.

That the demographics being polled are an inadequate representation of the country. Newly registered voters, cell phone users, et al are not being accounted for, yet, inspite of that, Obama's still doing quite well, thank you very much. Since you seem like a smart person, I am guessing that was your point...

I know it. He was mugging for the camera under Letterman's nose and stealing his laughs. Oh, that Obama. He truly is sneaky!

Obama's comments were based on policy, not personality. Immediately following the lipstick comment he said that wraping an old smelly fish in new newspaper does not make the fish stop smelling.
It is unfortunate that the McCain campaign resorts to this deceptive and disgusting level of politics, especially when John McCain has shown his less than accpetable respect for women, ("Joking" by telling a room full of people that Chelsea Clinton, then a young girl of 15, was so ugly because Janet Reno was her father....Now, there's a role model for ya!)

Lest we forget about John McCain telling a real "side splitter" to a full auditorium about a womens rapture after being repeatedly raped and assaulted by a gorilla : http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/07/15/sources-recall-mccains-jo_n_112955.html

Check the facts for yourself, you don't have to take my word for it.

Now, really, who owes the appology, Obama to McCain for talking policy, or John McCain for showing his utter disdain and disrespect for the women of the world?

and that would be??? So I take it you are very happy with TODAYs policies cuz that's exactly what McCain has (and will) subscribes to.

So what you are saying is you hate paying less taxes, you are for open ended offshore drilling, you want to see the oil companies make more and more in billions of dollars, you don't want better education, you want the world view and approval to continue to deteriorate, you want more war... these are all the things Obama is against.

Very personable Sen Obama.

Proving that intelligent and cosmopolitan (Rudi's word) people can be funny and get it, just like those of us whom are 'small town' folk.

I totally agree. I'm small town and have always felt a connection to him. He seems really grounded and sensible. It comforts me that he is a good thinker. I'm glad someone of his character wants to be president.

Love this guy and look forward to his inauguration and the subsequent restoration of democracy and sanity! As for the "lipstick" flack, this is ridiculous. When Hillary wasn't chosen, they said we were being sexist. Fact is, we had two great qualified candidates and only one could win. She still came in second in the race and that's a damn good place to be! McCain put in an unknown with no qualifications other than evangelical and female, now they're bristling at every little thing that's said! Since when do we have to walk on eggshells in an election? I buy Obama's explanation, as I've used this expression for years as have many others I know. It's time for the GOP to start talking issues. I look forward to tonight's debate, and hope McCain gets it with both barrels! Oops, my bad. Nothing to do with Sureshot Cheney and Annie Oakley.

Please Dems, don't let this one die. Palin is exactly the lipstick on the pig of Republican policy. They are using her to dress themselves up; and, so far they have been successful. This should continue to be used throughout the campaign. It describes both McCain and Palin to a T.

Letterman praised Obama.....and he rightly should. He's the right man for the job at the right time that we need his vision for America.

So Palin's not a pig; she's lipstick. Nice way to dismiss a woman that he clearly perceives as a bit of a threat. I'm sure it will go a long way in advancing his effort to reach out to women. At least we know who the real pig is now.

It was implying that she was superficially repackaging the same brand of failed economic and foreign policies of the last 8 years. Lipstick=paint on a rusted out Pinto..its still a rusted out Pinto
