Palin

Wall Street Journal:

Thomas Frank writes in the Wall Street Journal:

It tells us something about Sarah Palin's homage to small-town America, delivered to an enthusiastic GOP convention last week, that she chose to fire it up with an unsourced quotation from the all-time champion of fake populism, the belligerent right-wing columnist Westbrook Pegler.

"We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty and sincerity and dignity," the vice-presidential candidate said, quoting an anonymous "writer," which is to say, Pegler, who must have penned that mellifluous line when not writing his more controversial stuff. As the New York Times pointed out in its obituary of him in 1969, Pegler once lamented that a would-be assassin "hit the wrong man" when gunning for Franklin Roosevelt.

The Politico's Ben Smith notes that, beyond supporting FDR's assassination, Pegler was an anti-Semite:

He was also known for what Philip Roth described as his "casual distaste for Jews," which had become so evident by the end that he was bounced from the journal of the John Birch Society in 1964 for alleged anti-semitism. According to his obituary, he'd advanced the theory that American Jews of Eastern European descent were "instinctively sympathetic to Communism, however outwardly respectable they appeared."

Are you seriously suggesting that the fact that Palin quoted Pegler -- whom most people alive today have forgotten -- is going to lose her the Jewish vote?

All of my Jewish rellies plan to vote for her.

Obama will be lucky if he even carries New York State.

Sarah Palin quoting an anti-Semite just doesn't surprise me at all. I dislike that woman a little more with every tidbit of information I find out about her.

Drip, drip, drip.

ABC News has some good people and ABC has some great programs (Boston Legal puts the Progressive message out every week). All America knows Gibson is not a real journalist but fluff. fOne way of striking back is to write eveyone we know to never watch ABC News with Gibson. If his ratings tank the network will get the message. Bottom line is everything to the networks.

If you want to talk about anti-semitism ABC is a great place to start.

ABC is owned by Disney which was started by one of the greatest anti-semites of all time, Walt Disney.

Change We Can Believe In!

Since taking office, Obama has requested $740 million in federal earmarks for Illinois, including $750,000 for a visitors center, $713,000 for soybean disease research, $401,000 for a juvenile delinquent prevention program and $250,000 for obesity prevention.

At the Democratic National Convention last month, Obama promised to take action against wasteful spending.

“I will also go through the federal budget line by line eliminating programs that no longer work,” he told 84,000 people at Invesco Field in Denver.

But this year, Obama voted against cutting $23 billion in federal programs rated ineffective by the Office of Management and Budget. His campaign said there were programs he didn’t want to cut.

Last year, Biden requested $120 million in earmarks for Delaware, including $2 million for an oyster bed revitalization effort, $656,000 to retrofit apartments with sprinklers, $500,000 for a nutrition program and $246,000 to renovate an opera house.

Lemmy, not to be confused with lemming, a mindless critter who blindly runs with the crowd.

Lemme' see if I got this right, Obama earmarks for an Illinois visitor Center, soybean disease research, juvie delinquency prevention, and an anti obesity program, all of which are bridges that
actually go somewhere...no?

...and you list Biden's as; 2 million for oyster bed revitalization (beds polluted by lax federal pollution standards) $656, 000 for retrofitting apartment sprinklers ( a laudible safety issue, especially if you lived there) and a half million for a nutrition program. All of which had actual human, citizen benefits, involved health and safety issues, and you scoff.

I'll give you the opera house, as neither of us are aware of the facts.

Next time, when you read something, get past the dollar amounts and look at the subject matter.
Not one of them was a bridge to nowhere.

And we are talking about Illinois, with a population 21 times that of Alaska. Now, Lemster, if you do some SIMPLE math, which I'm sure you can handle after reading your politically lobsided post, you will find that Sarah Palin managed to spend 21 times the amount per constituent than did Obama.

That my not so fine feathered friend is what us liberal elite call ludacris. Go back to your cave, please.

So, McCain has never requested ANYTHING for Arizona? That's wonderful;he has allowed money to go to other places of need. All "earmarks" are not tirvial spending, like the bridge to nowhere. Arizona--the perfect place that needs nothing.

Cindy McCain should be afraid, the GOP plan on electing these two and killing John McCain and guess what, we will end up with much worse than what we have now. The supremist will take over this country. They made sure they got rid of our military and will replace them with their own militants. They don't plan on bringing any of our military back. If they did that, we would have someone to defend us. They should be impeached without trial.

Exactly, Lemster. usaidwhat?

Dude, the military is exhausted because our present leadership has the common sence of a lump of coal. That includes many of our Dems in congress. The whole Cindy McCain thing is fun to imagine, as her family does have a long history of nefarious business ventures, but I doubt she has the personal inclination to be a politician.

No one has seen any paper penned by Palin, in her life. Not in college, as Mayor or Gov, an intellectual original piece that would give us a peek on her thinking.

Palin is reading and reciting speeches from Bush speech writers with perfection. Thats what they call reforming government.

Westbrook Pegler

('T Ain't Right, 1936, pp. 103-106)

http://www.geocities.com/westbrook_pegler/Suffer.htm

....it will be impossible ever to disprove the atrocities which are being perpetrated on the children of the Jews under the orders of Adolf Hitler as a policy of the German government of today...

The German child who is a Jew is compelled to listen to the most unspeakable vilification of his parents, and the child's first attempts at spelling out public notices on the billboards will inform him that he is not a human being, like other children, but a beast whose parents were not human beings, either, but loathsome animals.

If the child lives in a country town where there are not sufficient Jewish children to warrant the establishment of a ghetto school in which to segregate little Jews, then the torture of the victim is even more artistic. In that case the child may be compelled to sit in the classroom and pay attention while the teacher explains that little Isadore or Rosie is a vile creature, a species of vermin and a menace to the German nation. If the teacher so desires, the Jewish child may be dismissed from the room during the lecture, in which case the Aryan children, with the characterisic cruelty of children plus the sadistic delight in the infliction of pain which is now being fostered in young Nazis, will catch the young Jew after class and tell Isadore or Rosie what the teacher said.

I have zero respect for Sarah Palin, but this is pathetic. Ezra Pound was one of the greatest American poets of the 20th century - "...pull down thy vanity: It is is not man, made courage, made order, or made grace. Learn of the green world that can be thy place..." and a cringeworthy antisemite. Most American writers of the 19th century believed blacks to be fundamentally inferior to whites. Mark Twain used the "N word". It's one thing to expect candidates to make politically correct statements. It's another to expect them to only quote politically correct writers.

McCain voted against the Webb amendment calling for adequate troop rest between deployments.

McCain voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities.

McCain voted against increasing Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes.

McCain voted to table an amendment by Senator Dodd that called for an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq.

McCain urged other Senate members to table a vote (which never passed) to provide more than $1 billion for National Guard and Reserve equipment in Iraq related to a shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, and tactical vests.

McCain voted against increasing the amount available for medical care for veterans by $650,000,000.

Ha! One would hope, but our memories would be short regarding Florida. Not to mention that McCain helped Charlie Crist get elected..maybe ole Chaz will return the favor, with a little subterfuge, eh?

By the way, I wonder how Charlie Crist feels? He was used by McCain just as Romney and Pawlenty were. All 3 were used "badly"! Is Crist going to get married after rushing off to become engaged for the VP nomination? Romney and Pawlenty seem to have gone on home and are being quiet.
