Palin

Wall Street Journal:

Thomas Frank writes in the Wall Street Journal:

It tells us something about Sarah Palin's homage to small-town America, delivered to an enthusiastic GOP convention last week, that she chose to fire it up with an unsourced quotation from the all-time champion of fake populism, the belligerent right-wing columnist Westbrook Pegler.

"We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty and sincerity and dignity," the vice-presidential candidate said, quoting an anonymous "writer," which is to say, Pegler, who must have penned that mellifluous line when not writing his more controversial stuff. As the New York Times pointed out in its obituary of him in 1969, Pegler once lamented that a would-be assassin "hit the wrong man" when gunning for Franklin Roosevelt.

The Politico's Ben Smith notes that, beyond supporting FDR's assassination, Pegler was an anti-Semite:

He was also known for what Philip Roth described as his "casual distaste for Jews," which had become so evident by the end that he was bounced from the journal of the John Birch Society in 1964 for alleged anti-semitism. According to his obituary, he'd advanced the theory that American Jews of Eastern European descent were "instinctively sympathetic to Communism, however outwardly respectable they appeared."

The only difference between Sarah Palin and Dick Cheney is ---
a manciure! -- and that is scary as hell.

Our best rebellion is to hit where it hurts and turn-off our televisions. NOW!

I agree totally - the best way to get good news is by hitting their advertisers. If we start boycotting their advertisers the MSM will step up to the plate. But we don't and they won't.

TURN OFF THE TV SETS...DISMANTLE YOUR CABLE...This is the only way we can all send a message to the corporate media. Remember the anchor in "Network": "Im as mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!" We need the objective truth from the news apparatus....not the pundits (Hannity, Beck, etc) nor the pseudo journalism of the network anchors (Williams, Gibson, etc) who are only there to protect their $10 million personal portfolios and balance sheets. WE MUST ALL BE OUTRAGED EN MASSE!

Let's try not to go there guys. Really not nice - not even in the company of a small party. You have mothers, sisters, daughters, wives, etc. Easier to respect everyone than to tarnish your character with this type of low blow.

the Bush/Rove speechwriting team didn't even double check for this kind of stuff...crazy. I almost feel sorry for her but she should really write her own speeches or at least know who is being quoted.

And nobody whispered in Joe Lieberman's ear that he shouldn't have clapped at that line? What kind of friend is McCain not to return a favor?

Does anyone think that an “Enough is Enough” rebellion would fly? I have had this thought circling in the back of my brain all day.

Obama is the master organizer, the king of the grass roots movement, but he’s right when he says this is about US, not him. I read these blogs and I listen to the disgust in people’s voices when they talk about this… the MSM is letting so much of this slide, why can’t someone do something, we cannot be seeing a repeat of the Rovian slime/attack and distract politics succeed in putting another set of GOP thugs in charge of our country again.

I get it. A whole lot of people get it, but my question is “Why can’t we do something about it?” It wouldn’t have to be elaborate… but VOLUME speaks. It speaks profoundly. If millions of people stand up and make a declaration that this will not stand, we could take back this election…before the election.

Email campaigns..phone calls? Any suggestions? We have time to blog, why can’t we take time to email, or make calls? We could fill the inboxes at every major news organization, leave thousands of voice mails… It’s virtually FREE to do.

I'm game. What's the message?
Has it come down to America having to depend on the National Enquirer to dig into Sister Sarah's background while everyone else in the MSM treats her with kid gloves? or,
What have you reporters done with your journalism degrees?
Edward R. Murrow is probably turning over in his grave.

Corny I know, but I'm really tired of this cr*p.

gratazude & Superfit: Good for you. Keep up the good work. I've been doing the same thing and intend to keep it up. Don't worry about the canned responses -- they don't answer personal emails but they do receive them!

The message? Anything you see that makes you angry about the coverage of a story or the non coverage of a story. I've found that they pay more attention to a lot of personal emails from individuals than they do a form email. I guess they figure if enough people are angry enough to send them their own opinion; it matters. It doesn't have to be long and drawn out.

DebbieinPhx: I and others have been posting this idea of calling and emailing the MSM for weeks and I saw something today that tells me it may be working. I caught the end of it but Keri Phillips on CNN today read an email asking why they don’t look into Palin’s religion and it was obvious that Phillips was visibly agitated as she answered the email. Of course she said that they have done that and then played some clips of CNN’s stupid attempts at questioning Palin’s religious beliefs to TRY to prove her point. That's just one example. We need to send an email everytime we hear them try to spin a story. You’re right if all the networks get thousands of calls and emails every week showing that we the people are going to keep them honest – it can’t hurt.

You're right on. Change comes from the bottom up. I've already emailed ABC this week telling them I'll be watching to see if Gibson conducts the Palin interview in a less-biased manner than he conducted the debate. What's a few more dozen emails between now and November?

One idea if you're on facebook, twitter or myspace, Rick Sanchez' CNN news hour routinely reads reader responses. He's one of their more biased anchors, but he may have to change his tune if enough people respond negatively.

Now I've been happy lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately,
dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be,
some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

I've just quoted Cat Stevens. Does that make me a crazy Islamofascist? Do I endorse the murder of Salman Rushdie?

You need to understand that Palin and her husband have attended an Alaska separatist group called the Independence Party (not independent). Her husband was a member for years but she just attended. The thrust of the party is decidedly un-American and they have pushed f for Alaska's removal from the United States so they could gain autonomy in order to control all assets of Alaska, never mind that the as residents of Alaska, we had petitioned the US for statehood and the citizens voted for statehood by a huge majority. In one meeting, my daughter who lives in Alaska said that the group stomped on the U S flag. I believe that Mr. Palin is part Eskimo and he belongs to that militant secessionist group.

Yes. According to this video, taken at an AIP meeting Palin WAS a member before she was mayor and joined the republican Party to further her aims without suspicion.

NEWS FLASH: Obama will lose by 6-8 points - Palin will only get more and
more popular - Brilliant pick by McCain - Perfect for the dumb American voter - She is a female Reagan -

Say goodbye to the White House -

Like I told you - the only winner was Hillary - Pseudo Democrats tried to
put an inexperienced guy at the top of the ticket.......instead of #2.

Republican's got it right - Experience on top - newbie's as #2.

Get a big bowl of popcorn and watch the show - You heard it here first.

Get ready for President McCain and VP Palin.

When it should have been President Clinton ( doesn't that have a nice believable votable ring to it?) And VP Obama ( who?)

I don't think so. My canvassing in my very middle-class precinct tells me that most people are not falling for madam pitbull, with or without her lipstick. They see her as pandering, as snarky, as mean, and nobody likes that in a leader. They're also wondering where she is....she's a performer, not a reformer. This whole lipstick gaffe thing is making most people say, "oh come on!" and now they're paying more attention to McCain's line of BS.

Is anyone else completely exhausted of hearing Palin regurgitate the same speech over and over? I have stumbled upon her speaking several times the last week and she is still using the same tired lines. This woman doesn't have an original thought in her head- surely the "break" in Alaska will give her a chance to refill the tank with new smear material provided by the GOP cronies.

Campaign speech writers haven't been able to THINK of a new one to promote her is why.I dispise the woman after hearing about the butchering of the wolves in Alaska ,in order to promote hunting of the moose ,which Palin for some odd reason thinks should only be on this earth for SPORTS hunting ?As a Christian ,this concerns me ,Palin believes that God created ALL living things ,they are Gifts' from God ,and that she could not ever condone or endorse the KILLING or ending the life of one of GODS GIFTS for ANY reason .We all know the Bible begins with the profound statement that God is the Creator of ALL things,so this is what confuses me and I'm sure others IF they weren't so scared of being accused of attacking a woman ,would question Sarah Palin over.To Palin I ask a simple question .If you TRULY believe that GOD CREATED ALL LIVING BEINGS,and that you are against the KILLING of GODS GIFTS ,WHY do you condone the KILLING of Wolves ?They are GODS GIFTS .If you say it is allowed to protect the moose population ,that makes no sense ,as GOD IS NATURE ,GOD will take care of the balancing of the species and the survival of both LIVING CREATIONS of God !I'm sorry Govenor Palin ,I DO NOT CONSIDER YOU a TRUE BELIEVER of GODS creation of all living things or YOU WOULD NOT KILL ONE OF GODS CREATURES/GIFTS FOR SPORT !

The more we see of them together the more motivated the left will be to get out the vote and defeat this obvious substandard ticket.

Any Catholic, Jew or self respecting Protestant who votes Republican because of Sarah Palin needs to do some serious study of her religious beliefs! In the Evangelical Pentecostal Church near where I grew up, Preachers railed, in the true fire and brimstone fashion, against the ten “thou shalt not's”. Anything connected to sex was a mortal sin. But then just about everything was a sin in those days: Women shaving their legs; wearing make-up; wearing slacks or shorts or sleeveless and above the knee dresses; Anyone owning or watching a television; Homosexuality; Catholicism because they worship Idols; Judaism because they killed Christ and didn't believe in Jesus but we had to save them even if it meant blowing up the planet. By the time I was ready to go off to college; I hated just about everybody and didn't know who I was more afraid of, God or the devil!

They spoke in tongues, jumped up and down, foamed at the mouth and the women (mostly) fell to the floor in the frenzy. Skirts flying up around their thighs, some with bras and breasts partly exposed when buttons popped off blouses as the good Pastor and male Deacon’s hovered over them railing about the good works of Jesus.

Except for dress codes, shaving, make-up and TV; things haven’t changed a lot around those parts. Fornication will no doubt become acceptable now that Sarah has arrived on the scene. Their favorite agenda these days is forwarding Obama hate emails.
