Palin

Wall Street Journal:

Thomas Frank writes in the Wall Street Journal:

It tells us something about Sarah Palin's homage to small-town America, delivered to an enthusiastic GOP convention last week, that she chose to fire it up with an unsourced quotation from the all-time champion of fake populism, the belligerent right-wing columnist Westbrook Pegler.

"We grow good people in our small towns, with honesty and sincerity and dignity," the vice-presidential candidate said, quoting an anonymous "writer," which is to say, Pegler, who must have penned that mellifluous line when not writing his more controversial stuff. As the New York Times pointed out in its obituary of him in 1969, Pegler once lamented that a would-be assassin "hit the wrong man" when gunning for Franklin Roosevelt.

The Politico's Ben Smith notes that, beyond supporting FDR's assassination, Pegler was an anti-Semite:

He was also known for what Philip Roth described as his "casual distaste for Jews," which had become so evident by the end that he was bounced from the journal of the John Birch Society in 1964 for alleged anti-semitism. According to his obituary, he'd advanced the theory that American Jews of Eastern European descent were "instinctively sympathetic to Communism, however outwardly respectable they appeared."

McCain/Palin will be another Bush/Cheney; He'll be brought out for ceremonies, but she'll be the one in the backroom making the deals.

Do you mean like this past weekend when Bush was hosting T-Ball games and Cheney was in Georgia pissing off Russia?

No Substance! I'm giving up on you people! Please someone, tell me what Obama has actually done for the people. Not for himself and please something tangible. When has he reach across party lines to change something, anything in a real way that we can look to and say he did it and he can do it again. I'm really losing faith in you people. So many voters there must be one who can do this for me.

It just won't happen!

Why don't you understand that your attacks on Palin only accentuate the weaknesses in you own candidate. You point to downfalls (which I'm not arguing against) that are mirrored bv Obama. You highlight problems that arguably exist more prominently on your own ticket. IT"S A LOSING DEBATE. It doesn't matter how you cut it, the individual running as the 2nd part of the Republican ticket may be just as inexperienced as your Presidential candidate.

Why do you try and kid yourself ,PALIN is second on the GOP ticket in name only ,McCain is now nothing but a 'figure head' as people aren't voteing for McCain ,they are voteing for Palin .McCain pulled a good one ,he knew that MALE voters would fall for the 'skirt' he wasn't sure about women ,so his campaign people are CREATEING the sexsim,anti-woman anti-female gender ,political B/S ! My grand father used to say, if you want a MAN to go along with whatever you want ,raise the skirt a little higher each time "wiggle the hips ,and wink while you smile and LIE like hell" he was right and he was a Republican ,so I trust his words.

You wish. You sound an awful lot like a cretin my roommate dated. Yup, yup, the night you planned to stay over. I know it didn’t go well. Women tell each other everything. She said you talked a good game, but when it came down to getting the puck in the net, you couldn’t deliver. Seems you had a small equipment malfunction. All I remember is, you fell down in the hallway trying to get your pants on, and while you writhed on the floor I saw for myself the small problem. Eww! Because of what happened with you, my roommate and I never date right-wingers. We live in a blue state where there are plenty of liberal men who know how to deliver.
Did the h i t l e r youth rally just let out? Go back to watching Internet porn.

It's called willfull ignorance. You can go to Barack Obama's site anytime and get answers to all of the questions people like you keep asking, but don't actually want the answers to:

OK I read through the whole website. Please tell me exactly what a chief co-sponsor means? If being the chief co-sponsor of one law is something HE accomplished for the people of the State of Illinois, okay. I would consider that weak and after reading through his entire website it is the only thing I can see that could be considered as any kind of accomplishment for the people. But I would really need to know what a cheif co-sponsor does before even making a judgment on that one.

This is bad! I did what you asked! Please, oh please tell me there is more! Please tell me you haven't placed the lives and the future of the American people in the hands of a man whos only accomplishment is being the chief co-sponsor of one State Law. Authoring bills, that are not made into laws is sort of like office memos that are ignored by the employees because of the lack of authority of their author. So I really can't consider that to be an accomplishment. Meetings, hopes, dreams and talking points are not accomplishments so please fill in the empty spaces please. There is really no there, there.

>Please someone, tell me what Obama has actually done for the people.

I can do that for you sure!

From: http://obama.senate.gov/about/

Senator Obama serves on the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, which oversees our nation’s health care, schools, employment, and retirement programs. He is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, which plays a vital role in shaping American policy around the world, including our policy in Iraq. And Senator Obama serves on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, which is focused on providing our brave veterans with the care and services they deserve. In 2005 and 2006, he served on the Environment and Public Works Committee, which safeguards our environment and provides funding for our highways.

During his eight years in the Illinois state Senate, Obama worked with both Democrats and Republicans to help working families get ahead by creating programs like the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which in three years provided over $100 million in tax cuts to families across the state. Obama also pushed through an expansion of early childhood education, and after a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama enlisted the support of law enforcement officials to draft legislation requiring the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.

Any truly religious person (man or woman) who votes Republican because of Sarah Palin needs to do some serious study of her religious beliefs! Of course, we’re now told that she is no longer a member of the Pentecostal Church. But in the southern country small town where I grew up, the Evangelical Missionary Baptist church where I attended and the Pentecostal Church about a mile up the road held very similar beliefs. Both Preachers railed, in the true fire and brimstone fashion, against sin and the ten “thou shalt not's”. Anything connected to sex was a mortal sin. But then just about everything was a sin in those days: Women shaving their legs and underarms; wearing make-up; wearing slacks or shorts or sleeveless and above the knee dresses; Anyone owning or watching a television; Homosexuality; Catholicism because they worship Idols; Judaism because they killed Christ and didn't believe in Jesus but we had to save them even if it meant blowing up the planet. By the time I was ready to go off to college; I hated just about everybody and didn't know who I was more afraid of, God or the devil! Thank God for college.

Except for dress codes, leg shaving, make-up and TV, things haven’t changed a lot around those parts. Maybe Fornication will become acceptable now that Sarah has arrived on the scene. But their favorite agenda these days is forwarding Obama hate emails.

That and also her flirt with the Independence Party that in one of the meeting she attended, all of them stomped on the American flag. Her husband was a member of that party but Palin attended a lot of the meetings. She is not the true blue person Republicans make her out to be and that is why this Republican cannot vote for that anti American ticket.

She (or the speechwriter) is unlikely to have read anything by Pegler. It's more likely that she took the material, where it it quoted in its entirity, from the book "Right From The Beginning" by Pat Buchanan. Buchanan admires Pegler...even though he was anti-Semitic, racist, and a member of the John Birch Society.

It's interesting as well that she deliberately didn't use Peglers' name. So she must know about Peglers' background and wanted to conceal who she was quoting. It might "suggest" that she actiually read reactionary works, after all.

But....she's a hockey mom. What more qualifications does she need? Of course, it would be nice if they would actually let some reporters question her and have her go on the sunday morning shows. They know she'll mess up, so that's why the only thing she's doing is some softball interview with a reporter hand picked by the McCain campaign.

I would bet that Palin hasn't been to a hockey game like she hasn't been to a PTA meeting in years. This woman is all phony hype. And I might make an exception to my own rule about not partying until O is elected, the day one person in the MSM has the guts to expose her lies.

“When someone shows you who they are, believe them.”
Maya Angelou
To all the men, who are captivated by Palin, you obviously fall into that category of men who have had a bad history of falling for the wrong woman. I’ve seen it before. For some reason you just can’t help getting caught up. No matter how many of your friends try to warn you away you go right ahead with the pursuit. But guys, if she has trouble telling the truth from the start, she cannot be trusted. It’s a red flag. Where I come from it’s known as a pathological l i a r. The relationship always ends badly, there’s a messy, bitter breakup, often followed by a restraining order.
Take a second look at this woman before you pull the lever or fill out your paper ballot. Ask yourselves if you might be repeating a behavior pattern that didn’t work out too well for you in the past.
Sarah Palin is showing the American people who she really is. Believe her.

It is not surpising to hear echoes of an anti-Semite from a fringe millenialist awaiting "the rapture" (or Alaskan independence, at any rate). But it cannot be tolerated. Thank you for bringing this to public attention.

Well the polls are in and its obious you didn't run with the in crowd. Must be another liberal, wimpie, wussie, nerd because Palin is definitely part of the in crowd. Hot, gun toting babe usually makes yellow skin crawl. Also, I sure McCain act of bravery is a constant reminder of your own weakness. Well join together with you comrades in the dem party. Its the party for the outcast, the social misfits. Those who are unable to care for themself. Who have been the product of uloving or uncaring parents. the need for a good father and mother are transferred to the need for a nanny state. A government forthe loser, the weak kneed, the loser who is afraid of the darkness. Afraid of our enemies. Unwilling to fight no matter what the provocation. Yellow is the color of their flag, the red, white and blue one is for burning. Well once again you and your friends go home alone. No victory for the weak. They are doomed. Evolution has given them no backbone and "the survival of the fittest" can't be overcome by all their hopes of government programs to save them from extinction. Natures way of weeding out those unable to survive the harsh eviroment of America in the 21st Century. Oh what a great day to be a Republican.
